One of the biggest strengths of the show is its characters. The three supporting characters stand out much more than the main lead. The main character feels a bit plain and boring at times. The others bring much more personality and energy. They are fun, expressive, and genuinely entertaining to watch. The female lead especially shines with her humor. Her running style and overall mannerisms add a lot of comedic charm to the show. The side characters and villains feel weaker. The villains, in particular, don’t feel very strong or fully developed. They are not memorable antagonists, and their acting feels a bit bland compared to the main group. Even outside the Wonderfools team, most other characters don’t leave a strong impression and feel average overall.
Speaking of comedy, the drama does have funny moments, mostly because of the characters. However, as a show that presents itself as a comedy, it doesn’t fully feel like one. The humor is not consistent throughout the show. Instead, it feels more like a regular drama that has some comedic scenes rather than a true comedy-focused series.
The action is where things get mixed. The action scenes are good, sometimes even very good, but they clearly had the potential to be much better. It feels like the show could have improved the action significantly by fully using the characters’ abilities. For example, some powers, like super strength, were not explored as much as they could have been. There were opportunities for more memorable scenes, but the drama didn’t always take them. Because of this, the action feels slightly underwhelming compared to its full potential.
As for the OST, it’s one of the highlights. The opening theme is especially great; I’d rate it a 10 out of 10.
In the end, this is a good and enjoyable drama with strong characters and a fun concept. While it doesn’t fully reach its potential, especially in action and comedy, it still a solid drama.

Not perfect, but perfectly fun
Because I absolutely adored this series and all the WONDERfools, I'm going to ignore the little things that bothered me.This was such a cute, fun ride. This is the 3rd series I've seen Park Eun-bin in and she's wildly different and incredibly good in all 3. She might just be a favorite of mine.
Ro-bin was such a great character. I hope he finds a way to channel his superpower in a less damaging away. I felt bad for him everytime. Protect that man at all costs.
Fun, violent, silly as fuck, and all done to near perfection.

Nostalgia, Noise, and Growth: Why The WONDERfools Rewards the Repeat Viewer.
Having watched The WONDERfools five times now, my relationship with the series has evolved drastically. On a first watch, the opening stretch feels like a chaotic hurdle. Director Yoo In-shik and the writing team deliver an initial tonal whiplash; the comedy is deafeningly loud, the pacing in the first two episodes drags, and Eun Chae-ni’s (Park Eun-bin) initial introduction leans dangerously close to an exhausting caricature. For casual viewers, this messy worldbuilding is a barrier. However, multiple viewings reveal the brilliant method behind this madness. Those overwhelming early episodes are deliberate, laying a heavy emotional foundation so that when the narrative gears click in Episode 3, the payoff hits like a freight train. The true magic of this drama lies in its structural progression and unmatched ensemble chemistry.
The greatest triumph of the series is undoubtedly Cha Eun-woo. Playing the restrained, traumatized Lee Un-jeong, his deadpan, exasperated reactions act as the audience’s proxy during the early chaos. By Episodes 5 and 6, he shifts seamlessly into the show's emotional anchor, delivering a disciplined, breathtaking performance through micro-expressions and controlled vulnerability that completely shatters his past acting tropes. Combined with Park Eun-bin’s eventual heart-wrenching depth and Choi Dae-hoon’s masterful comedic timing (the giant onion sequence remains iconic), the misfit squad becomes deeply endearing.
Visually, the 1999 millennium-dread aesthetic is beautifully woven into the script, using clean action and a vibrant, retro soundtrack to reinforce the characters’ internal isolation.
The show isn't flawless—the veteran cast members are slightly underutilized, and the final villain arc wraps up far too neatly compared to its excellent buildup. Yet, The WONDERfools understands its identity perfectly. It is a warm, ridiculous, and poignant celebration of found family that gets richer with every single rewatch.

If you want something different from the usual Marvel or DC superhero stories
I watched this series between 17–28 May 2026. At first, I thought it was just another rom-com, but within a few minutes I realized it was actually a superpower fantasy series. The story follows ordinary people who suddenly gain strange superpowers and end up fighting mysterious villains. What makes the show different is that the powers are not always cool or perfect. Many of them are clumsy, funny, and create some really entertaining situations.
The series is set during the 1999 Y2K era, where mysterious villains and fictional powers create a unique world. Sometimes it feels like an emotional family drama, and other times it turns into pure slapstick comedy.
The pacing can feel a little uneven in a few episodes, but the warm-hearted characters, humor, and human emotions keep the story engaging.
If you want something different from the usual Marvel or DC superhero stories, and you like relatable characters with unusual powers, then you should definitely give this series a chance.
From my side, I would give it 7 out of 10. It is definitely a good one-time watch.

FUNNY
The clips from Wonderfools appeared on my timeline so often that I thought it was another zombie K-drama with a comedy twist. Turns out, it's actually a sci-fi series with a comedy twist.I ended up liking it. It's funny, and even though some of the jokes didn't really land for me, the overall experience was still enjoyable. It gave me a good laugh, and sometimes that's exactly what you need from a series. The background story feels a bit underdeveloped, the whole concept of wunderkinder is interesting, but because the number of episodes is limited, everything feels a little too packed, but it's okay. I was invested because the series was fun, but around episode 6, I started to lose a bit of interest. It became slightly boring, although it was still watchable until the end.Regarding a sequel, personally, I think nope, one season is enough. The original premise is built around the "end of the millennium" apocalypse, so continuing the story after the year 2000—or even going back to explore the creation of wunderkinder—might feel less relevant.
It may not fully explore its potential, but it succeeds in giving a good laugh and an enjoyable sci-fi experience.

Interesting shows and fun to watch
It's enjoyable to watch the series. I love the character of Choi Dae-hoon as Son Gyeong-hun in this series as he often became a villain in kdrama and this is a great acting by him and very refreshing to see him in this character. Of course my favorite actress Kim Hae-sook as Kim Jeon-bo! I hope there will be a season 2 for this show. Overall satisfied. Was this review helpful to you?
Better than you'd think!
This show was pretty funny and was really enjoyable. I don't usually like superhero shows, but this one was pretty good. I only watched it because Eunwoo was in it to be honest or I never would've checked it out. He looked so fine in this show. I think the comedy really helped with this show. I'm glad it all came out at once and not weekly because I don't think it would've done well coming out one episode at a time. The characters were all pretty interesting. I loved Un Jeong, Chae Ni, and some of the villain characters as well. Some of the powers were pretty cool too. Strength and the sticky power were pretty lame I can't lie and Gyeong Un annoyed me. I saw there was an after credits scene so maybe we'll get a season two which I wouldn't mind. Overall, the show was better than I thought it would! Was this review helpful to you?

Great superhero show
This series is so incredibly fun, it has mystery in the beginning of series, charming characters, nice conflict and great plot twist. I thought it was just casual superhero movie but turns out it was balance between fun and action. The CGI also good, the chemistry between actors is very warming, and everything feels perfectWas this review helpful to you?

Funny, entertaining yet didn't make sense sometimes...
this drama was quite funny and entertaining yet didn't make sense sometimes and alot of things felt rushed.so first of all chae ni 's heart condition at first like she was dying and had symptoms of heart faliure so doesn't that contradicts what we get to know later that she had healing abilities because of that heart so why wasn't she healing at first ? and I was also confused her grandma agreed to the heart transplant surgery didn't chae ni had a heart condition in the first place they didn't show us so I am a bit confused
Ha won do was quite a rushed written charater for me like at first he says he wants her heart to cure others yet he was doing it for that chairman but what for like was that man funding the whole experimentations or was he threatening him to put him back in jail ? they didn't show us a motive so that is another villain to forget.
that's been said the drama definitely had its moments : funny, emotional and action packed ones , it deserves to give it a go.

Bickering, Violence, unhinged female, uncharismatic male & a happy ending
This has alot of bickering & alot of violenceThe female lead is the central character & plays against type. I'm sure it must have been a challenge for the female lead to play a character who is irritating & unlikeable, with the the intelligence of a spastic puppy (or, make that ;chicken, as they are loud & very high strung !) Male lead 's character is deadpan & bland. The few dramas I have seen him in have him playing the same type of character. Even when he's in action, he still just feels like wall paper (albeit, pretty wall paper). This drama has the feel of the American series x-men, heroes and umbrella academy. I didn't really enjoy it, (though the last 2 episodes pick up in interest &character investment). The bickering, whining, complaining, bad attitudes & selfishness of the 4 leads was not fun or entertaining. That they threw in a last minute romantic moment was ludacris, because at it's best this is a buddy drama & should have stayed that way. This whole drama really feels like it belongs to the female lead, who does manage to convey scatter brained & unhinged. By the time the happy ending comes she has toned down a good bit & ALOT of side characters (that you feel sorry for ) die.
not a rewatch.

a quirky, chaotic, and surprisingly heartfelt
The OST deserves special mention. It’s eclectic, blending retro beats with soaring ballads that perfectly capture the late-90s vibe. Tracks shift seamlessly between playful and poignant, amplifying both the comedic timing and the emotional resonance. The music often feels like another character, guiding viewers through tonal shifts and grounding the story’s eccentric energy.Ultimately, The Wonderfools is messy, vibrant, and deeply human. It’s less about polished heroics and more about flawed people fumbling toward connection and purpose. For viewers tired of formulaic superhero narratives, this series offers something refreshingly different: a chaotic ride underscored by an unforgettable soundtrack. If you’re tired of formulaic superhero shows, The Wonderfools offers something refreshingly different. It’s messy but deliberately so, leaning into absurdity while still delivering emotional resonance. Worth watching if you enjoy character-driven chaos with heart.
