Wuxia drama with great martial arts skills
It is one of the good Wuxia dramas to watch since you will watch the progress of ML from zero to master. This drama might seem slow at first, but the drama gets better and better after. The action of casts is fantastic. We can see a variety of martial arts skills from various sects. For fans of wuxia dramas, this one is a must-see.I am amazed by how well Chengyi plays three different roles in this drama.
As Xiao Qiu Shu, his character is funny, free-spirited, and unambitious. All he does is play outside. Everyone in the family loves him so much, although he eventually has conflicts with his two older brothers. XQS experienced many hardships before becoming a great warrior. Each of his journeys was followed by challenges, while his character remained strong, upholding the principles of truth.
Li Chen Zhou is my favorite character in the drama. I can't even describe how excited I am to see him every time he appears. His white hair perfectly suits his character, who seems cruel at first glance, mysterious, and clever, yet gentle and warm at the same time. The first time seeing LCZ, many thought he might be a bad person, but it turned out he was a true warrior who was willing to make sacrifices in secret, including being poisoned by the emperor to ask for help for the sake of the people.
Xiao Ming Ming is a modern character of Chengyi. There's not much to say about this character, but his role is still excellent. I could sense the differences in each of the three characters, even though they were played by the same actor and in the same drama. Chengyi never disappoints when playing multiple characters.

Decent start, draggy middle, confusing end
If anything could be the saving grace of the show, it would be the visual candy of Cheng Yi and Xu Zhen Xuan, along with the fight scenes which were truly quite epic.Plot: The start was entertaining enough, and felt reminiscent of ADWAD but with a slight spin to the usual delivery, which led to some interest in how they would resolve the time travel (spoiler: the conclusion was unsatisfying). But somehow the pace or direction of the show was lacking, and quite a few scenes were fast forwarded as opposed to watching it in the entirety to understand/appreciate the plot. Said plot ended up being too convoluted, with too many sub-plots without a clear direction, like a cook adding too many ingredients when the focus should be on a few key ingredients and making the flavors pop.
Characters: Not sure if it was the direction or acting skills itself, but most of the supporting characters did not make much of an impression. There's not enough backstory to explain why they acted the way they did, and sometimes the actions of the main villain/antagonists just did not make sense, or overly contrived. Yeah sure some parts could be inferred, but cramming so many different subplots made it feel more like the additions were an afterthought, instead of intentional characterizations to bring the story to life. To be honest, even Xiao Qiu Shui's character growth seemed a bit bizzare, and the portrayal of his headstrong/childish (?) moments also feel a bit flat. The brief moments of supposed chemistry/sparks between XQS and Tang Fang also felt rather dull...
OST: Other than that one main OST, the other songs didn't make much of an impression.
Ultimately, I'm not sure what the show was trying to convey (other than serving great visual candy, lol). Granted, yes, there was quite a bit of exposition on ideals and how to fight the big baddies, with the usual notes of brotherhood, sacrifice and care for others, but maybe the message was not strong enough to hammer in the points? idk. As compared to ADWAD, A moment but forever, there were certain themes or messages that could be gleaned from the story, which made it feel more than surface visual entertainment, and left some food for thought.
Nonetheless, there were some highlights such as the pairing of Li Chen Zhou and Zhao Shi Rong, and the camaraderie in the brotherhood, especially with Tang Song. It's actually really enjoyable to see both LCZ and XQS together, because Cheng Yi portrays them so distinctly - but it also raises some questions on why they look similar. Afterall, they could have just pretended that the characters did not notice the similarities in appearance, but no, the similarities were highlighted multiple times! But even till the end of the show I had no idea why the creative direction was as such, other than wagering a guess that they were representing two opposing approaches to achieving their goals for the martial world/country??
TLDR, can watch just for Cheng Yi and the fight scenes, but don't expect to gain much out of it, and possibly feel a bit disgruntled even at the ending hahaha.

Storyline too complicated. The 3 roles completely different with Immortal Samsara
I was interested about CY 3 roles, which in IS was very beautifully executed. But unfortunately this one is so disappointing, the story is so draggy, no chemistry between casts. CY cry scenes is so clumsy, like being forced, doesn't make me sad nor teary. Different w IS, i watched several times, teary every time, chemistry between him n FL also very good, maybe this is the main reason IS was very successful n still being watched till now. Good luck CY for acting w Li Yitong. Was this review helpful to you?
Iconic martial arts scenes
Contrary to what most have said abt the pace gg slow, I think I do not have issues abt it. The title is literally 'The Journey of Legend', so of course the pace will be laid out such that we get to go on a journey. Everybody expected the MC to be strong from the beginning, but if that was the case, there would not exist a character development, and watching it up to this point is worth it because of the growth in the MC. Cheng Yi embodies it so well that he literally shut haters up so fast that all they find fault with now is his hairstyle, which i think looks fabulous anyway. He plays dual characters effortlessly, and the clear distinction he plays each nvr fails to impress me.This is a drama that has high rewatch value because of its values of righteousness, loyalty and family ties. And of course, again the fight scenes are truly what makes it a wuxia.

Why is everyone hating?
The acting is surprisingly good. Not silly like most cdrama actors are.The storyline as always- a bit all over the place, dramatic for sure.
Music was wow- cried multiple times and the movie at the back was def helping the sad emotions
The ending.... that i can say is weird. Again- nothing new from cdramas, i just wish theyd stop having an open sad ending, because yes okay most are dead, but what is that?

Has quickly & surprisingly become one of my favorites
Going into this I didn't expect much, as I am very picky with what shows I completely finish, and I just happened to come across this one randomly. But, I am glad I stuck to it. The storyline is fantastic. It does have its slower moments, but it's never boring. I love the martial arts action scenes, its some of my favorites I've seen so far. They're all very well done. I like how the characters actually have different outfits throughout the whole show, it adds more realism and makes it just a little more interesting. Lastly, I was impressed with the male leads actor. He was able to act for three different versions of his character, even though they all differ greatly from each other, and he did a fantastic job at it. This has easily become one of my favorites, especially within the martials arts, fantasy genre. Was this review helpful to you?
The Martial Arts Arcs Are Exceptional
The Journey of Legend is such an enjoyable watch! The costumes are beautiful and fit the tone of the story perfectly. The plot is engaging and keeps getting better with each episode. What really stands out are the martial arts scenes — every episode has exciting, well-choreographed fights that are delivered with great energy and emotion. Cheng Yi does an amazing job bringing the action and drama to life. If you love wuxia and martial arts stories, this one is definitely worth watching! Was this review helpful to you?

The ML Character Feels So Dragged Down
So… I’ve decided to officially drop this one. This was actually my first Cheng Yi drama, and I did plan to check out more of his works if ever I don’t have homework or when I’ve got nothing else to watch. But being honest here—ever since he mistook Liu Sui Feng (power gang member) as Feng Liu (the original Lucky Pocket), I just couldn’t take it seriously anymore. Like, how can he be the writer of the story but can’t even recognize the characters? Still, I tried to hold on, thinking, “Well, he’s a transmigrator, of course there will be problems.” I don’t hate Xiao Qiu Shui, but after watching up to episode 19, it feels like the writer kept dragging his character down unnecessarily. I do understand the brothers, since their parents died, but putting all the blame on Xiao Qiu Shui was so frustrating. Honestly, I just wanted him to sit them down and talk like a modern person. Then there’s Xiao Ming Ming (the transmigrator). At first, I thought his modern personality would shine through, but as the story went on, he didn’t feel like a modern person at all—more like his soul just fully adapted to this world. And when he got the sword (I forgot the name), I couldn’t help but think: if it were me, I’d just go back to the modern world and re-write the novel since he’s the author anyway, rather than staying and losing my real identity. Maybe that’s selfish, but watching it just stressed me out more than it should. Also, I still haven’t figured out who’s supposed to be his romance partner—if there even is one.
Lastly, the biggest reason I’m dropping it is just practical: I’ve got a lot of schoolwork, and if I’m being honest, I’d rather spend that time on other shows. I might rewatch this one someday if I hear it gets better, but for now, it’s not for me. On a positive note, the characters that grabbed most of my attention were Liu Sui Feng and Song Ming Zhu (she actually reminds me a little of Fu Ling).

Timetravel Broship with a Sham Plot
Eps 7 - 22 What the hell. Such a sham, started ok then the director and script and plot and 10 new characters each episode (ok not that many but close) just made this look dumb. Speed up the dumb bits and it at least looks ok lol.Eps 1 - 6 Here for the comedy and broships. Really enjoying the pace and story. The new sets are very cool. Quishui’s costumes have been intricately made with some expert detailing included.
Some of the underlying stories are interesting so looking forward to seeing how they pan out.
The action sequences are on point.
All the discussion about Cheng Yi’s puffy cheeks are hilarious! Go the puffy cheeks.

Good for a light hearted watch into a world of Wuxia
The Journey of Legend is yet another drama that showed immense potential but ultimately failed to leave a meaningful or lasting impression. While it offers moments of entertainment, the storytelling feels weak and relies heavily on contrived coincidences and glaring plot holes to move the narrative forward. Too often, I found myself laughing- not at intended humour, but at the absurdity of the situations and the illogical decisions characters made. Their behaviour is frequently inconsistent, undermining the believability of the story and creating a sense of forced progression rather than natural development.
The acting and music are commendable and, at times, elevate the experience. Unfortunately, even strong performances and a solid soundtrack cannot compensate for the shortcomings of a poorly written script. The writing simply does not do justice to the talent involved.
Like The Immortal Ascension, I will finish this series- but more for its light-hearted value than any real narrative quality. In the end, The Journey of Legend stands as a reminder that no matter how strong the cast or production values, weak storytelling will always hold a drama back.

Too many coincident, that it feels unreal.
I watch this drama solely because of Cheng Yi. Then, I realized that he played a teenager that became a hero. He was not bad, but not really convincing as a teenager who acted naively.I hate the cgi. I feel that the drama could do better. The fighting scenes were also ordinary. Not bad, just ordinary.
And the part that I really hate was why all great martial artists in this drama, before dying, gave their power and fighting skills to Cheng Yi character. Like why? Just because he was there and he was a good guy who can fight the evil persons? But please, make the story more convincing. It feels that Chang Yi character become the strongest hero without much effort and sweat.
