started off good but went downhill

The story revolves around boxing, a former boxer who turned into a "KUZU" and an honest woman who gets involved with boxing to punch the kuzu.

The first 3 episodes were intriguing. the story started to build up and the leads chemistry was decent but suddenly the dark past started showing up and people turned very evil around the leads. Just in the middle of them becoming a real couple, everything got messed up.

I don't know why they decided to suddenly make the ML a stupid person. The FL is also so Hinged on the ML that her actions became nonsense. i hope the last episode clears the mess.

Overall, very very average and Cringe-worthy at times.

Great story, okay romance.

I watched this because the title caught my attention, and because I was in the mood for a Japanese drama. Love a zany rom com, and this started out with some of that. The main relationship isn't a feel good central plot line, it's just okay. Where the show is great is in showing her boxing journey (I could care less about boxing as a sport, but really enjoyed watching her grow, in a realistic way) and in showing his grief story which is quite heavy and also realistic. All the side characters were valid parts of the story and enjoyable to follow too.

I am still waiting for that punch

Ok this isn't what I expected, and not in a good way.
This is supposed to be a rom-com, it's more of a sport drama with a rom side story, the beginning was funny and some characters were written literally for comedic relief but somehow in the middle they got too seriously responsible and start giving life lessons.
What I loved about the drama was the FL and how she is so resilient and strong-willed, her whole journey and the lessons we can learn.
Also the importance of moving on, losing a person or being the cause of if is difficult, still we have to eventually move on with our lives.

What I didn't like was literally everything else, the ML character is terrible, I know he's been through a lot but that doesn't give him a pass on the pain he inflicted on others, hurting someone isn't an excuse if you have a sad backstory, the whole time I was waiting for the FL punch to come, yet I was surprised by the bizarre romance, the FL is supposedly different from her mother and sister, she is the mind while they are the heart, but to fall in love with a jerk who used you just because he has a sad past is just too stupid, just make her a hopeless romantic like her mum and I'll believe it. Also where is the punch?? He deserves one even if you fall for him, a deal is a deal!
Also this is supposed to be a rom-com, with sport side genre maybe or even a main one but this is too dramatic, it's about suffering and loss, nothing to laugh about here.
The last 3 EPs or so were all over the place, the whole time skip is just unnecessary, and the ML change of heart towards the FL makes me want to seriously roots for Uba, I'm on the same page with the FL sister on this matter.
Finally, I wouldn't recommend this drama because despite being a good one, it got a little boring by the end, and the story isn't that great anyway also the rom-com is very light and only in the first couple of episodes, the rest is pure sport drama.

Unexpectedly engaging story about imperfect people

Interesting, atypical characters make this an entertaining watch. We have a female lead who got jilted at the altar by her two-timing fiancé and starts to question her taste in men when she gets involved with a scumbag (as the title suggests) shortly after her failed wedding. She’s spunky and stubborn and sincere, but also a bit naive.

Not that she has any examples of healthy relationships or reliable men in her life, with no father, a divorced sister, and an immature mother who has a different boyfriend for every day of the week.

It’s the scumbag who’s our male lead — admittedly a sexy and enigmatic one, but still a jerk. Yuta Tamamori plays the role with an understated charisma that provides an interesting foil to the FL’s enthusiastic and somewhat impulsive personality. His character capitalizes on his good looks as a bartender who charms women out of their money on the side. However, there’s a saying that all behavior is caused, and his stems from a secret (and probably PTSD) that keep him closed off to genuine relationships.

What that secret is and whether or not he stays a scumbag, I’ll leave to you, dear viewer, to find out.

I wouldn’t call this a sports drama — boxing is just the backdrop to a story about damaged people trying to figure how to not let their pasts define them. However, this J-drama does offer some surprisingly emotional performances along with a bit of mystery, some laughs, and an "odd couple" romance (though this takes a backseat to other plot elements) with leads whose contrasting personalities make for a compelling watch.

She is a real contender

Sports centric drama is popular for good reasons. We all like to cheer on our favourite team and if they are the underdog, all the better.

In that sense, this show doesn't try to change the status quo. I suppose the old saying "don't fix what is not broken" applies. The slight deviation is the FL is now the one with the potential. We watch her journey into the world of boxing. From rank noob to becoming a pro. It doesn't mean the ML is not involved. It is just that his arc starts from a different angle and he has his own challenges that severely tested his mettle. He is weighted down by a dark past and a lot of self loathing.

If our leads' trials and tribulations are not enough to keep your interest, the show seals the deal by doubling down on their romance. It is hardly plain sailing though. Lots of misunderstandings right from the start, hence the title. Once they confirmed their feelings, their relationship is very sweet and tender. Thankfully, with only 10 eps to play with, it didn't drag on for too long. They even managed to squeeze in a break-up but fear not, it is for the greater good. ;)

Thankfully, most support characters are engaging and have distinct personalities. This makes their scenes pop. There is a lot of wisdom and wistfulness in their lives. They are not fodder for the mill.

Coincidentally, this brings us to the unfortunate case of the SML. He is a good man but just can't hold a candle to the "bad boy" ML. He deserves a happy ending which the show hinted at in the last scenes.

Ultimately, this type of show is all about the feels and their cup runneth over. Even the antagonists are not evil for evil sake. Sure, they have their "twisted" reasons for doing harm but they also deserve a chance at redemption.

Even with a small budget and a short runtime, this punches above its weight. Sure, there are the odd cliche subplots but what drama doesn't have them? The tight script deserves a special mention though. The writer-san kept us guessing up to the dying minutes. With all the twist and turns, nothing can be taken for granted. It is quite a ride! I'll add this to my rewatch list. Peace.

A drama that unexpectedly evolves into a thoughtful reflection on adulthood and personal growth.

I started this drama because I was looking for something light and silly to watch but the more episodes I watched, the more I realized the story had a surprisingly deep meaning. While romance isn't really the focus, in the sense that there aren’t many romantic scenes, it’s Love that drives the protagonists' actions.

The story gradually developed into a meaningful portrayal of adult life. How many people actually end up chasing the dream that defined their youth? Very few. Most of us, for various reasons, come to terms with the fact that some dreams can no longer be pursued. Still, that doesn’t make life any less valuable. As long as we live, we have the ability to renew ourselves. Even something unexpected or seemingly out of character can lead to new joys and a life we never thought we’d live. That’s the beauty of life: as long as we have the will to move forward, we’re always presented with new perspectives, emotions, and sources of hope.

But there were also a few aspects of the drama that I didn’t appreciate.
The bigger issue is the decision to force the protagonists’ relationship into a romantic one. It could have remained platonic, and it would’ve worked just as well, if not better. I expected the writers to take a more courageous approach in this regard. I especially disliked the line suggesting that “it doesn’t matter if love is toxic as long as people make independent decisions.” That message felt very off and undermined the stronger themes explored earlier in the series.

That said, the drama was still very enjoyable and actually pulled me out of my drama slump. It’s rare these days to find a series that puts real heart into its storytelling, one that isn't just about aesthetics or pretty shots, but has something genuine to say with its negative and positive aspects.

Me fez refletir, me emocionou e me marcou de um jeito que poucos conseguem.
