Six episodes IN, and I have THOUGHTS ??
First and foremost, lemme just say that I'm genuinely HOOKED and INTRIGUED by this drama so far. I am only 6 eps in, so I'm not about to sit here and act like I know how the entire story is going to unfold when we still have 34 eps to go. However, so far, I am enjoying what I'm watching, and I am very curious to see where the story takes us.The cast, the storyline, the Republican-era setting......the combination definitely caught my attention. And now that I've started watching, I can already tell there's more going on here than a straightforward romance.
Yu Changxuan and Ye Pingjun, a.k.a XuanJun Couple. WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN WITH THIS TWO?😭
Because, sir, the way you went from half suspecting this woman to suddenly telling her you want court her??Excuse me?! Can we talk about the progression for a minute?💀
Their beginning is certainly not what I'd call conventional, and Changxuan is a character I'm still trying to figure out. There's something intriguing about the way he carries himself and the fact that his intentions aren't entirely clear. He seems to know more than he lets on, and I find myself wondering what exactly is going through his head. I'm interested in seeing how his relationship with Pingjun develops, especially when there's clearly more to their situation than meets the eye.
But honestly? YE PINGJUN, MY GIRL. ❤️
One of the things I'm enjoying most about this drama is watching her stand her ground. She's not someone who has the wealth or social standing that other characters possess, and she certainly finds herself in vulnerable situations. But what I appreciate is that she doesn't automatically accept being treated as inferior just because someone else has more money or comes from a more privileged background.
And THAT is something I love about her......She doesn't have to be fearless every second of the day to have a backbone. She can be scared, she can be vulnerable, but she can still refuse to let other people intimidate her. When someone looks down on her, I love that she can look back at them as if to say, "And what exactly makes you think you're better than me?"
GIRL, STAND YOUR GROUND! 😭👏🏽
I also appreciate that my admiration for her isn't dependent on her being the male lead's love interest. I'm interested in her as a character in her own right, and I want to see more of her personality, her decisions, and how she navigates the world around her.
Now, let's talk about Tao Ziyi. Because, respectfully, GIRL, PLEASE. 😭😭😭
I have absolutely nothing against the actress, but this character tests my patience sometimes. And no, it's not simply because she's attached to Changxuan. I genuinely don't care who she likes or who she wants to pursue. That's her business. 😂
It's the way she behaves towards Pingjun that gets me. The entitlement, the attitude, the assumption that having money and coming from a privileged family somehow puts her above everyone else... like, girl, PLEASE.
And WHY ARE WE SHOUTING WHEN THE PERSON YOU'RE TALKING TO IS LITERALLY STANDING NEXT TO YOU?! 😭 Can we have a normal conversation? Just one? Please and thank you.
But jokes aside, what bothers me more is the way she treats Pingjun as though her social position gives her the right to look down on her. I love that Pingjun refuses to let that define her worth. I can understand why Tao behaves the way she does without necessarily enjoying her presence on my screen. Both things can be true. 😂
As for the story itself, I'm interested in the questions it's beginning to raise. Changxuan's intentions, Pingjun's circumstances, the relationships surrounding them... there's enough here to keep me curious without making me feel like I need to have everything figured out immediately.
And that's exactly where I am right now: HOOKED, INTRIGUED, AND WAITING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
