Our Youth: My #1 BL Show
I can honestly say this is my #1 favorite BL show of all time, and has left a lasting impression on me in a way that no other show ever has! I truly cannot recommend this show enough - it ticks every box for me. Junsei's and Kenshin's acting (as well as the supporting cast's) is incredible, the soundtrack is perfect, and the plot is very strong from start to end. The directing is breathtakingly beautiful in a way that I rarely see from shows, and I think the directors and actors deserve a lot of credit for both the romantic scenes as well as the heart wrenching and raw ones. The story depicts the beauty, love, suffering, and fleeting nature of gay love, youth, and life spent together, and the show's honest portrayal of it all will certainly leave its mark on the viewer. I started watching right after the 11th (special) episode finished airing and every night I would rewatch the past two episodes before starting a new one. Watching Minase and Haruki's journey is incredible and left me reflecting on so much after each episode and days after finishing the show. Overall, I cannot recommend the show enough and "Our Youth" definitely should not be missed.
The only criteria I didn't rate a perfect 10 out of 10 is Rewatch Value, because while I will absolutely will rewatch this show (probably throughout my life), it left me with intense bittersweet emotions. It's not an "easy" rewatch in my opinion, you will be sucked in to their story and if you're like me you will be stuck in your feelings again.

Beautiful
One of the most beautiful shows i have ever watched BY FAR. The story was the absolute perfect mix of heartbreaking and heartwarming. 10/10 would recommend !!! From the OST to the simple backing tracks every piece of music was perfect. It doesnt over exaggerate anything while also not under-exaggerating anything. Kenshin & Junsei did an absolutely amazing job! Hirukawa deserved nothing but love and that's what he got. 🥹 It felt realistic the way Minase slowly realized he had fallen for Hirukawa (& vice versa). Onice again, 100% do recommend! Was this review helpful to you?

This is one to watch...
This is not going to be like my other reviews. This review may make it seem like I didn't like this, but I first want to say that is not true. I really liked this one... but...
I have to rant about this...
That one teacher should NOT be a teacher!!! Who the hell do you think you are saying that crap to Hirukawa like that? He is your student, you shouldn't say thing like that, teachers are supposed to help their students not belittle them. I just wanted to jump in the show and beat the every loving shit out of him. Not just him either, alot of people, even the kids...what the hell is wreong with people... the sad thing is, this is not make belive it happens in real life as well, well I'm not 100% sure about the teacher thing, but the rest yes.
Another thing I thought the kissing they did could have been better. All they did was put their lips together, they did't kiss. They both did a great job otherwise.
End of rant. 😀
Edit: Ok the last ep (11) they did I better job at the kissing.

ABSOLUTELY LIKE YESSSS
This show was revolutionary. It was so sweet and deep and emotional at times. And you MUST watch the 11th episode like honestly.I really do love how it maintained the flow of being realistic but also kept the clear feeling of love between them constantly developing (this is especially apparent in the kiss scenes) please watch ittt. And I love the actors as well they’re so sweet and funny when it comes to reviewing episodes and stuff.
10/10 all the way

the vibes and tone of the entire thing are also immaculate - the characters' struggles were quite nuanced and at times, relatable. it's the typical two people from entirely different worlds with different struggles meet and clash, but eventually fall in love storyline, but i appreciate how it was done here. the mini timeskip was particularly appreciated, as well as the epistolary nature of the entire narrative.
sometimes, we need time to grow and recover, and sometimes, the right person can always find you again, but in a better and healthier time. great drama!

One of the Best Adaptations in 2024!
It’s easy to get lost in our own lives—to become so consumed by what’s happening to us that we feel like we’re drowning. And the people beyond the waves? They become distant, even frightening, especially when one of them shines like a beacon of light, someone we’re afraid to approach for fear of extinguishing their brilliance. This feeling of being lost, afraid, and yet yearning for something outside our own experience is precisely what the Japanese BL Our Youth captures so powerfully.
Adapted from the webtoon by Hi Nun, Our Youth follows model student Minase Jin (Motojima Junsei) and delinquent Hirukawa Haruki (Kamimura Kenshin) as they navigate a turbulent youth defined by violence and loneliness. Their lives are like a choppy sea where no one expects them to cross paths—let alone to become each other’s anchor in the storm.

Beautiful story about first love - one of the better Japanese series I've seen this year
Beautiful and sometimes terrible story about two young guys from very different backgrounds who meet in high school. About an abusive father, an absent mother, loneliness, prejudice, friendship, first love and an increasingly strong bond that grows between the guys, a hard breakup and eventually a beautiful reunion. 10 regular episodes + an extra episode about what happened next. Watch it!Was this review helpful to you?
? Our Youth — My Late But Honest Review ?
I know this is coming a bit late — I actually watched Our Youth right after it finished airing, but I’ve only just had the time to review it. So here we go ✨First of all, I already knew Jin was going to be that type of person — so sweet, so attentive, and genuinely caring. He’s that rare kind of character that makes you believe people like that can actually exist 🥺
As for the production, I have to give them credit. The visuals were beautiful, the acting felt natural, and even the subtle moments hit hard. Some of the reactions were hilarious too — like I actually laughed out loud a few times.
Now let’s talk about Haruki. That boy has been through it. The pain in his eyes, the way he carries himself... it’s like he doesn’t even recognize when someone’s being kind to him. He’s so used to being alone and unloved, he just assumes no one cares.
So when Jin started showing him real affection — offering him not just love, but also a safe space, a home, a sense of belonging — that’s when everything changed. Their bond started to grow slowly and beautifully.
Honestly, this story touched me more than I expected. It felt real, soft, and healing all at once. I’m giving it a solid 10/10. No skips. No complaints.
If you haven’t watched Our Youth yet, please do. It’s worth every moment.

Good chemistry between actors
When I watch BLs I feel like I'm on a desert looking for a good chemistry between actors and fortunately this BL gives that. Actors portray their characters well. Story is sometimes inconsistent but generally speaking it's really nice BL to watch. Not awards winning but definitely not a waste of time. Was this review helpful to you?
heartwarming story
japanese bl series never disappoint. the story is really great, the story is about a smart, innocent, popular kid who fell in love with a troublemaker. it's not just a High school love story, it's even more. usually in other high school bl series nothing much happens actually they just fall in love and then what? do they stay with each other forever? do they join the same university ? do they spend their life with each other forever? we don't have any answer for this. But in this series there is highschool love story and even we see about their university life and also about the after university life. they fell in love in highschool and then they break up but they meet with each other again and they still had feelings for each other and also jin asked hirukawa about marriage. even though they couldn't marry each other because of the law they still loved each other forever. a really good story, a really good plot, the acting is great and it's a must watch series. Was this review helpful to you?
One of the best BL's
Oh this was a real treat, it was one of the best BL's i have seen. The story was good and though problems like parental neglect and abuse were used, the story still wasn't extremely dark. It had a good balance between hardship and happyness/love.The visuals were good and the music was ok.
The acting was great and the chemistry between the mains great! The kisses were good.
This is a real must watch, you won't regret it!
