Started strong and crashed badly . . . another failure at modernising the Cinderella/Alpha CEO trope

Our couple meets and falls for each other in a flash, excellent banter and physical chemistry, giddy in finding someone on holiday away from their everyday lives.

Reuniting causes a huge mess, and it's a very clever idea, beause what are the typical lies people tell?:
1) Lying about their lives back home while on vacation
2) Lying about their background or skills for a job

Our main female character Da-Rim has done both and the traps and miscommunications resulting from this are exaggerated but still within character. Da Rim tries the best she can, and with the support of the women at work, starts to blossom a bit despite it all and you even start rooting for her.

Ji-Hyeok stomps around like a bunch of red flags ogre from another decade but you never doubt, despite the plots and dialogue, that he deeply cares for Da Rim and that keeps the romantic tension going.

Then, about half way through, it was like this drama felt like it needed to get larger than life: ridiculous scenarios, life and death situations, corporate espionage, absurd situations at work, instead of being an understandable cringe . . it jumped the shark.

I literally by end of episode 11 could not bear to watch it anymore.

Which is a shame, it's been a rough year for the romantic comedy genre, and I had large hopes from the first episode that this could, if clumsy, be entertaining through to the end. But nope - I just can't force myself to watch anymore.

Disappointing.

I decided to watch this drama cuz of ahn run jin but it was a let down.
From the beginning i would say i liked it but there were too many things that bugged me that I wasn't able to ignore.
First of all the fl, she's way too naive or you can say just weird. It's like she was written with major doubts in the head.
Another noticeable thing is fl's outfits. She's representing a working mother kind but her clothes just don't fit that description. They're just not it.
And the cliches. There should be a limit to that. But there are just way too many of them. And unnecessary ones too. When I found out a little about the ending I was like that's enough cuz I'm mentally exhausted because of that duo.
And the characters , they seem to just jump from one scene to another. Like if in one ep they appear to be fighting / arguing , then the next ep they're just normal like nothing happened. It's weird.

So Good So Far

It’s been really good so far. Only 3 episodes in, but I am completely hooked. I hope it continues because KDramas have been pretty disappointing for a while. Like you begin and it’s fun but the excitement wanes and they become a drag to watch. I was enjoying this Drama so much I hope it can break out of whatever slump KDramas have been in.

Side note: I began watching this not knowing it wasn’t fully released on Netflix… the heartbreak when I realized I had no more episodes to watch lol. I hate watching things while they were airing and have no excuse for why I didn’t check beforehand (╯⪩o⪨）╯︵ ┻━┻

Too exaggerated

Negative review of the Korean drama Dynamite Kiss:

A GOOD TIME PASS & A LIGHT DRAMA

Merry Kiss Christmas - As the ending says!

So I watched this drama because of the actor, at times it did feel like he is carrying the whole show. I started because of the hype and the scenes going viral from the first 2 episodes. I was hooked to the story line at start but slowly, it made no sense. Too unreal. Too bizarre. Too dramatic. (I think I am being too brutal here) The acting was great, I really loved the second couple, the rich boy-poor girl vibes, the office drama and the rom-com moments. It was light, fresh and humorous.

But...the chemistry between ML and FL did not match between a lot of scenes, side characters' arc was not build up that much, the background power dynamics plot felt boring, and the love was not that easy to understand as showcased by the drama. Though I really liked the different emotions portrayed and balanced throughout, the shock, anger, betrayal, grief, joy etc.
If you guys have loved Business Proposal, King the Land and other workplace rom-coms, you can give it a try but don't expect too much. The plot feels new and unique at start, but it not different from the rest. Instead the story feels very slow-paced (even after watching at 2x :) ), repeated and overstretched. The OSTs didn't stand out too much for me. The dialogues are very good, the messages conveyed, the screenplay, the setting and the whole build-up, yet it didn't touch the heart that much.

To summarize the whole story, ML and FL had a good time and a kiss at Jeju island, but the FL runs away because of family problems and ML keeps searching for her in the city. FL then joins the ML's company but under the identity of a mother and this devastates him. The office dynamics and action starts. Work Projects, friendships, figuring their feelings out, little bit jealousy, confessions, guilt, all tangled together. Some scenes are very good and wholesome. There was no one to hate on particular for me. Only in episode 8 was it revealed that FL is not married neither a mother, and in ep 10 they start actually dating. So if you are looking for pure romance or butterflies in stomach or a dating era, don't watch it.

It is more of a mature drama where both ML and FL are portrayed in their 30s, it talks about financial struggles and relationship hurdles. It did feel stupid when ML went crazy over the FL with just one single kiss that they shared. And how he still had feelings for her even when he knew she was married (though it was fake). Like little unrealistic! FL was also conflicted about her feelings about him. To add more to this, it felt really frustrating when second ML keep rejecting or acknowledging the feelings of second FL. I know love is complicated but why are you making it look stupid. Only when second FL finds his son when he gets lost, and she gets hurt because of him, he truly acknowledges her love. Like that unconditional love is not there. And it's okay. You will get to see another side of love in this drama.

Overall, you can watch this drama if you like office plot and rich boy-poor girl tropes, and have free time. It may feel boring in middle but try to look at deeper meanings of the scenes. I have listed both good and bad points of this drama above. So you can judge from that. You will love the characters, the side plots are not heavy, and the main plot though feels stupid at times, it's worth it. You will definitely get a good laugh, adrenaline and tears!

Deflated Kiss

This was one underwhelming romance. If you go in thinking a Dynamite Kiss that sets off a whirlwind romance between the leads I’d suggest you look elsewhere. This is the kind of romance you just don’t wanna see anymore. We have a ML falling head over heels and FL being cherishable by nature does ML a favor by being with him. ML time and time again had to not only chase after FL, but win her over from start to finish.

And how does a romantic comedy has its main characters suffering, being miserable and just going through it in their own ways pretty much all the time? There isn’t anywhere near enough of emotional payoff for all the angst. Let’s not mention literally every single cliche trope under the sun is used in this drama.

Overall it’s okay for a one time watch. This drama for me at least made me appreciate the names on my comfort/favorite drama list a bit more. Really had high hopes after seeing that 5 minutes teaser

I said this before so i will say it again. Jang ki young has smiled more in one single ep of this show than he has in Gumiho, come and hug me and Atypical family put together.

The women in this show were treated like crap by their men. The MLs mom and sister by the father, the FL by the ML, the SFL by the SML, the SFLs mom by her dad. The MLs sister by the SFLs brother... and the most egregious of them imo is the FL by the SML. Dude u were friend zoned at birth.. Did they give a reason why his wife divorced? I ffd this show so much i mighta missed it but i think it probably coz he treated her like crap too... making googly heart shaped eyes at ur friend when ur wife's pregnant maybe???

A Rom-Com That Had My Heart From Episode 1 to 14, Unrankable. Unfair. Unforgettable.

I cannot compare it to Gong Yoo and Kim Go-eun — they live in my heart in a space that has been untouched for nearly a decade. And yet, somehow, Dynamite Kiss now exists there too. Not above, not below — just there. And that, to me, is the highest praise I can give any K-drama.
