Fixed pairings will be the end of good stories
The dark/toxic/burnout vibes of this show was perfect. The art, the music (not the osts) all were perfect. The sensual vibes with every character, even Ing was great (they really were whoring out everyone for this show). The story was also interesting.I did not like the ending at all. I know this is gmmtv and their fixed pairs HAVE to end up together but they are losing the greatness of their work by sticking to this format. Khol is toxic, a greedy person who takes and takes and does not see anything beyond his needs. Making Jira and him end up together without any proper explanation kinda ruined the story. They had to increase the number of episodes or do something else to tell this story properly.
Another complaint I might have is the lack of Khol's side of his emotions for Jira, we never really get the feel to when he falls for Jira, we don't see him in his thoughts much. Compared to this we see Pheem's feelings and his battles with it which gave more depth to his relationship with Jira.
The acting was great, this would be Dew's best performance and the only decent one he had after homeschool. Off and Gun are great but Off was slightly weak here. The side characters also did their jobs well
I'm excited to see more shows like this but with proper length to develop the story and a readiness to step out of fixed pair setting.

I really wanted to like this more.
When I first saw the trailer, I was so excited to watch this drama. Not Me was an awesome drama and one of my favorites, and I love OffGun and their chemistry when they star together. That being said, I was initially ready to give this series a much higher rating. The adult story line, acting, and drama felt refreshing, especially after Cooking Crush and The Intern. I was thinking this would finally put the Not Me curse for OffGun to rest.Unfortunately, I felt like it was close but no cigar. Dew, Off, and Gun are all very good, but I felt the character of Jira was a little toxic for me and strung both guys along. Koh is cold and a major a**h*le at numerous times and I found that hard to look past. Pheem is the only character that I felt had some redeeming qualities and deserved a lot of sympathy. The scene in the rage room was very heartbreaking and Jira just kind of disgusted me because he didn't seem to grasp both what he had done to Pheem or even care to grasp it, he just wanted to paint and cared about his art.
Overall, the series was pretty good, but just didn't finish in a way that made sense. The writers set up the perfect path for the drama to break the BL drama mold and have Jira realize he was the issue and was burnt out and dealing with complex emotions and a life that was chaotic and needed two failed romances to see that he needed to focus on himself, his art, and his life. However, the series stopped just short of that and leaned back into the typical BL trope of a clean reconciliation between the leads and having the relationship rekindle. This was much, much, MUCH better than many of the other GMMTV BLs that are getting released lately, plot wise, I just wish it had gone the full way and broke the mold of a stereotypical BL pattern.
Side bar, the themes about expression, art, emotion, creativity, and passion were AMAZING, as well as how the scene tied that part of Jira's life together with him and his relationship with each man, and his interpretation of them differently in his work. I loved the idea of expressing the emotions of the artists and the subject of the art so differently. The rage room scene and finished work was AMAZING. I just wish GMMTV had been a little less....GMMTV.....and this would have been a solid 8.5 or higher. Still, the drama is worth a watch and the actors are great.

Burnout Syndrome is incredibly well-balanced and thoughtfully executed
I loved the story — it feels fresh and genuinely unique. The acting was superb. Every actor delivered a powerful performance, and you can really feel the intensity in each scene. It’s sexy, dangerous, and smart all at the same time.
You can tell the production knew exactly where to invest their budget, and it paid off. The direction especially stands out — everything feels intentional and well-crafted.
Standing ovation to the cast, the director, and everyone who made this possible.
So far, this is the best series I’ve seen this year.

I wanted ml to end up with the second lead
imo the whole story would've finished better if the ml ended up with the second lead(tiny spoilers ahead so read at caution)
i mean when the last thing happened regarding the art and ai, i personally don't think i would be able to forgive someone like that when they acted to nonchalant about it, if the other lead loved ml so much why did he continue on and sell the product? like all he did was come to sleep under his house, and i honestly just think that's the only reason he wanted ml, we see the second lead put in wayy more efforts.
(end of spoilers)
I personally wouldn't rewatch it cause the ending just frustrates me really, but overall the plot, message the cast everything was on point (except the ending). It for sure is a heavy watch and i'd like to watch more bls surrounded by such topics.
Oh and I wish a bar like the burnout bar would exist irl, we really do need stuff like that<3.

Another drama by Off-Gun, of course here I am… Let’s discuss drama…The story follows Jira, a struggling artist who feels lost, exhausted, and disconnected from the world. At his lowest point, his friend Ing suggests he visit the Burnout Bar—a quiet refuge for people worn down by life.
The bar has a simple rule: you can either sit alone or be matched with a companion by the bartender. That’s how Jira meets Pheem, a warm, gentle IT specialist who listens without judgment. Pheem quickly becomes Jira's source of comfort. Pheem turns into Jira’s “safe space” and eventually falls deeply in love with him, hoping to help him heal.
Later, Ing offers Jira a job as a dinner companion (escort). Reluctant at first, but desperate for money, Jira accepts. The job goes terribly wrong—but his bold and fiery reaction catches the attention of Koh, a wealthy yet emotionally distant businessman who happens to witness the scene.
Intrigued by Jira’s personality, Koh offers him an unusual arrangement. He wants to hire Jira—not as a lover, but as a stand-in. To attend social events, business dinners, any situation that drains him. Koh can’t face them anymore.
As they spend more time together, their purely professional relationship slowly evolves into something more personal. Both men, in their own ways, are dealing with burnout—and through each other, they begin to rediscover pieces of themselves they thought were lost.
This creates the central conflict: Jira is torn between Pheem, who offers him gentle, unconditional love, and Koh, who challenges him to reignite his passion and sense of self.
Ultimately, the story explores emotional exhaustion and the healing power of connection, showing how even the most burned-out souls can help each other find their spark again.
That's pretty much the story without giving anymore spoilers.
What I like:
+ Quite different from all GMMTV dramas. This is quite heavy. But I really like it…
+ Off-Gun chemistry never disappointed us…
Don’t know if I like it or not. But the way Jira just choose Koh is kinda trigger something for me… ^^
Overall this is quite worth your time to watch…

Touches upon important issues but doesn't see it through?
There are many positive aspects about this show. It is pleasantly sensual, maybe not as spicy as many other shows, but it does not take away from the chemistry and intimacy. The writing is good, most of the dialogues and interactions seems realistic (but maybe I am too used to bad writing in Thailand lol). The soundtrack is great for the mood, although you can clearly see the taste of the person, who picked the songs. I seem to like the same music as this person, but if it were not the case, then the soundtrack may seem too homogenous in terms of genres.I agree with previous reviews I read here. Even though, it is refreshing to see a bl lakorn be deeper on its themes and topics, it didn't quite hit the target with them... Maybe there is some censorship involved? GMMTV is still a large company, it is possible that they have their own agenda guiding the content.
What I mean is that the conflict between Jira and Koh is supposed to symbolize the conflict between artists and AI. Why does it end this way then? They make up without any compromises or talking, it just happens because of their chemistry? It did not make sense to me, because it undermines the message. Maybe they did not want their criticism to seems radical, I don't know, I'm still kind of confused about that.
One more thing I notice in a lot of Thai shows, the sound engineering and editing is just... nonexistent. Do they not teach sound directors in Thailand? I don't get why I need to hear static and the surroundings, when the characters aren't saying anything. Just cut it out? The quality of sound overall was honestly lacking and often distracted me from immersing into the series.

Huge spoilers. Read after watching. Adults Playing Adults Being Stupid and Messy, Like Adults.
This is quite possibly the first time I’ve seen plausible, gritty, uncomfortable relationships done really well in a Thai BL. For that messy, uncomfortable, and very human reason this is now my favourite Thai drama. For now.I honestly don’t like the system of set pairings. I can see how it might make an inexperienced young actor produce better performances if they have a trusted acting partner, but once they reach the point these two have it seems counter-productive. I thought by having Dew play such a sweet suitor we might actually get a different outcome, but sadly not.
I consider Pheem, Ing, and Mawin to have been the heroes of this story. The worst thing Pheem did was throw his toys out of the play-pen, which is much more healthy than Koh’s coping strategies. Rage room violence and bad-mouthing Koh were probably very cathartic, honest, and relatively harmless. Ing and Mawin both exemplify kind, honest support without pandering. I kind of hoped Mawin and Pheem were going to fall in love, but that’s just a trope, and the way things played out supported the feeling of naturalism that made me love this show. The cast is stellar, but these three kept me from getting too caught up in the toxins Jira and Koh were putting out, because I fell in love with all three of them.
AJ (Mawin) is quite possibly my favourite Thai actor. He’s able to keep me watching, even when everyone else is annoying me. I’m getting incredibly fed up with him being relegated to second friend and similar. Someone give this boy a f#@king lead! He’s got what it takes, and it’s frustrating that he’s never front and centre.
I really respect the work of Off and Gun, but as mentioned, they need to change things up, and work with other love interests. They’re veterans. I really enjoyed Gun’s chemistry with Dew. Think what he could do with him as primary love interest, or one of the other really talented, leading men out there. The same goes for Off. They completely nailed these two extremely believable, incompatible characters though. Bravo.
If you’re like me, and hate suspense and stupid decisions, stories like this are quite hard to watch, but the believable characterisations, warts and all, were so well rendered that this is a rewarding watch. For those wondering if that reunion is realistic, I think so. Jira and Koh were never going to be a wholesome, peaceful, or even a happy couple, but they’re passionately in love, in a gritty, slightly selfish way, that better reflects real life than any other TBL I’ve seen. It actually made uncomfortable sense to me. At my age you get pretty cynical, though…and let’s face it, love tdoesnt turn arseholes into nice people.
As a final touch, I love the little morality discussion about AI being trained on scrapings and the work of creatives without consent. It’s an important discussion to have, so I’m glad it’s being turned over in series like this.

When Burnout Meets Stockholm Syndrome
this was amazing!i get that people are skipping this. I was also putting this off because I don’t really enjoy dramas with toxic relationships or love triangles. but I really appreciate BLs that go against the usual norm, which this one does. that’s what made it amazing for me.
this was such a well made drama. the direction, the cinematography, the acting, everything was amazing! especially, the acting. oh my! this is my second time watching OffGun. I watched Not Me a few days ago (I’m very new to thai bls) and absolutely loved them there. this drama made me hateeee them (the characters, not them as a person or actor). that’s how well they pulled off their roles!
this was my first time seeing Dew. and goddamn he’s HANDSOME. and a freaking giant😂😂 and his acting?? omg. i think I loved his acting even more than Off and Gun’s. the scene where he sees the painting Jira made for Ko, that scene broke my heart in a million pieces. the immense pain on his face, you could feel the pain he’s feeling!
before starting the drama, judging by the comments i could tell that there are plenty of red flags and toxicity in this drama. I was under the impression that Ko is the biggest red flag, Pheem is maybe also a red flag, and Jira is probably caught in between the red flags. boy i was so wrong😭
while Ko was indeed the biggest red flag, Jira wasn’t any greener. if anything, i hated Jira more than i hated Ko. at least Ko was a POS through and through, he never pretended to be a nice person. Jira on the other hand….sigh. at first i was somewhat feeling bad for him. but then he just started stringing Pheem along and kept hurting him over and over again. the more the drama progressed, I stopped feeling any sympathy towards any of these two, i was wishing they get doomed together. lol.
Pheem, my man :’) i see some people calling him a red flag as well. I personally wouldn’t tag him as a red flag. pitiful, maybe. but not a red flag. he got the most severe case of stockholm syndrome, first with Ko and then with Jira. I don’t blame him for not leaving Jira (even though he should’ve), because I believe he’s genuinely a good hearted person and he genuinely wanted to trust and understand Jira. I'm honestly relieved that he didn’t end up with Jira. he deserves so much better.
OffGun chemistry was explosive, as expected. I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing DewGun’s chemistry was, despite this being Dew’s first time acting in a BL. this proves once again what an amazing actor he is! i would love to see him in another BL (idk if that will ever happen though:().
I might be in the minority here, but I really disliked Gun’s makeup in this drama. I can’t quite pinpoint what it was, but it just felt…off? (pun intended lmao). the hairstyle was also awful. Gun is absolutely gorgeous, but this makeup and hairstyle didn’t do justice to how beautiful he is.
one thing that I really appreciated about this drama is how they brought up the usage of AI. I thought it would have a much bigger role in the drama, unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I wish they implemented it more, that would’ve made this drama so much more bold and refreshing.
I was also expecting the burnout aspect to be a bit bigger, considering the drama is called BURNOUT syndrome. they touched the topic, but never went any further. the psychological aspects of a burnout, how much it affects a person mentally and how it can change them, things like this was never explored. I really liked the idea of the burnout bar, though. also, the bartender was HOT 😂 and the drink names were super interesting.
overall, this was a great drama. but I highly doubt I’ll ever rewatch this and make myself swim through the ocean of red flags again😂

Aesthetically pleased but at the same time, Im appalled.
The series was great. They casting was perfect, the actors did a great job. In theory, this was a 10/10 watch except the story decided to add an element that they were never planning on addressing.Yes, the AI part of the series didn't make much sense to me. You're telling me, Jira, who rejected a job because the company prefered to use AI ended up with a guy who basically stole his paintings to train his AI which he then proceeds to sell and earns profits. Make it make sense?
Koh never had an eye for art, much less for Jira’s. He didn't care about Jira’s painting he only cared about what his paintings provided him.
A cure for his insomnia and a means to train his AI. Koh was preety transparent about the fact that he didn't give a fuck, yet Jira ends up choosing him in the end.
I don't understand why jira decided to even “break-up” over the whole AI issue when it's clear this didn't matter to him at all.
Yes, if it wasn't koh who made the AI, someone else would've. All this would've still affected jira as an artist however I don't think that's the point. The point is the personal connection koh and jira had that koh decided to sabotage for his own gains.
Jira quite literally under-reacts when he finds out the truth. I absolutely hated that bit. The revelation was devasting to watch, I can't believe they gave us a room temperature reaction. Nobody seemed to care about the fact that AI taking over art is a big issue. Why undertake this theme if you had absolutely no intention of giving it a suitable conclusion?
The series would've been better off without a “happy ending” and it would've been even better without the whole AI concept.

burnout syndrome was promised to be messy and it was, kind off. i really liked the series and the elements they portray, but at the end i think they rushed a lot of things so it became even messier and tangled. ten whole episodes weren't enough to convey what the story could possibly mean (i'll probably try to read the full novel later). think koh, for example. his whole character and feelings for jira turned a full 180º in such few minutes i still think he's faking it.
acting wise, the whole cast is one of the best ever put out by a gmmtv show. not a single miss in any scene of any of them. it helped me to get really hooked on the series.

Jira should have ended up with the other.
I really liked this. Especially for its maturity, like it certainly had some sexy scenes. recently, the uni student shows get a bit same same, so a mature series is always a nice break from those. i thought the plot was cool. but ultimately … im not that obsessed with how it went. i went into this show knowing offgun will end up together bc they’re a working pair. however.. ive always liked dewgun. even if i didnt, i still would have wanted their characters together. because they were the couple that got together more naturally. they had such good vibes together. koh and jira felt so forced as koh was eventually forcing himself into jira’s space. so then their relationship started feeling forced and unnatural. (plus koh was toxic vibes from the start. pheem was an overall lovely character). and it was really off putting. i just think the show went too far in the direction of jira and pheem being a genuinely lovely couple, that i then struggled to be content with koh and jira.. it just became an annoying series 😭Was this review helpful to you?
