Hopeful, honest, intimate young love

This show was my comfort watch for 12 weeks, and the cast became my comfort cast. I loved so many aspects of it, from the diverse portrayals of relationships to the honest conversations about sexuality, love, dreams, failures, and the real challenges teens face. But in this review, I want to focus on Kit and Shane because their story resonated with me deeply.

They're both written as subversions of familiar character tropes, Kit, the aloof rich boy, and Shane, the studious class topper, yet they defy expectations with their emotional intelligence. They are vulnerable and intimate. They gradually become their best selves because of each other. They share the kind of love that’s worth fighting for. Kit is one of the most loving, caring, and honest boyfriends I've ever seen portrayed in any BL. Shane didn't grow up with a model of a healthy, loving relationship, but in the end, he has the chance to become that example himself.

A refreshing story about young love – what a gem!

I love this show so much!!! If Gelboys and I Told Sunset About You exposes the toxic nature of relationships and brings out the worst of the social media era, Boys In Love is its wholesome coming-of-age counterpart.

It’s a comfy, heartwarming show that will put a smile on your face after a weary day. But it’s not all just fluffy teenage love.

The teenage anxiety and confusion surrounding self-identity and relationships is real. But it is also the process of becoming that is so rewarding to watch.

An underrated point is that the characters are relatable and thoughtfully-constructed. Thankfully, the show wasn’t overly silly. Nor did it try too hard with the coming-of-age stuff. The storyline, while largely wholesome and feel-good, also had some realistic bits in between where teenagers were just being teenagers.

Verdict: Yes, 100% would recommend this.

for the slice of life anime lovers

my oh my.. what an ATTRACTIVE cast we have here with new main lead faces. if you love slice of life animes.. this series is for you! now directors, writers, producers.. please allow teens to be miserable. yes, i know.. sounds crazy. there were so many things that this series just completely glossed over, especially regarding shane's utterly miserable home-life. they present shane with the obstacle of forcefully leaving thailand to live with his mom, and yet it was all resolved with what seemed to be a joke. the series constantly built up suspense and concern from the audience only for the problem to be solved like nothing, i found myself constantly disappointed and unattached to the series because of this. even down to the final scene, i'm left with no connection to the characters other than to kit's eyes.

for my final critique, i wish there was more of a slowburn with atleast ONE of the couples, by episode 8 all the couples were already established. i was waiting for per and tar to finally address their feelings but it's like the directors thought they wouldn't have enough time to develop them, which is completely unbelievable since the audience had to sit through way too many scenes of kim revolving his whole personality around his boyfriend. so nonetheless i was disappointed by their lack of development, especially since they (sue me) probably had the best chemistry..

Truly a gold nugget of a show

This is such a cute, comforting show, I loved every second of it.
Chokun and Aston were of course a highlight (the way I was grinning like an absolute lunatic every time they were on screen), but I truly think that the entire cast did an amazing job. They could not have gotten better actors for any of these characters.

Will catch you off guard!! ?

💖 Spoiler Warning of course 💖

Since there are 4 couples to talk to, I am going to talk about the plot in general.

Starting this series, I have very low expectation because the actors are from the new generation of GMM actors so I was just watching it for fun since I have nothing to watch and oh my it caught me by surprised. While the plot is seem fairly simple on paper and actually it is, it works. The production caught the feeling of the high school vibe really well, with the teachers, the students, the music, the costumes and the filter. this weirdly bright and colourful filter they use for this series work so well in their favour. there is not one character from the main/support role that I do not like, I truly feel for every characters here which is new for me because I don't like BL series where they have like a dozen couple in one series.

the casting here also is so good because surprise surprise, they actually look like a bunch of high schoolers and the casting of Pod and Papang as the teachers also work surprisingly well. They all look like their characters which you can't say a lot in the industry where they snatch every good looking person off the street to be on tv no matter the character. (these kids highkey act better than some of the seniors from the company ngl) 🎉

One thing I appreciate the most from this series is it is in the universe where being gay is so normalized for high schoolers and everybody that we as a viewers can focus more on the trope like jealousy, etc, we need to bring that energy more to in real world.

🎨 Kit (Luke) & Shane (Mick): The story of Shane and Kit is fairly cliché as one is the smart kid that needs to tutor the not so smart kid which is an overdone trope at this time of era but for me personally, I do love a little bit of cliché in the world where every BL series try hard to stand out with their out of the box plot. Each characters bring the best of each other's which is nice to see as its not only one sided character development. their struggles as a couple and individual slowly unveil as the series go on and none of it feels rush from my view and I appreciate that a lot. (also I almost chocked on myself when I learnt that Mick is Win Metawin biological little brother)

🍦 Chokun (Kim) & Aston (Mon): this pairing is absolute fluffball, they are so cute together and both of the actors look very natural doing the characters they were assigned for which brings a very smooth watching experience. Their story is actually really weird to analyse because they became a couple really quick even before they knew each other that well which actually happened a lot among teenagers so their whole deal is they learning about each other and facing struggles together such the possibility that Mon is Bisexual or Kim is very paranoid as a person. at some part you would be like "ugh miscommunication" but then they actually talk like talk talk and not I am sorry and that is which I appreciate (this also intended to the other couples as well). Overall I love their dynamic I would like to take a second to applaud Chokun's acting improvement since I first saw him on My Love Mix Up.

🧸 Ken (Rer) & Paul (Tar): their story is even weirder to analyse because they actually did not officially became a couple like the other two BUT for some reason I like it because they actually do care for each other and have feelings for each other but there is this silent agreement that they will not leave each others side and I interpreted their dynamic that both of them are not ready for relationship yet but neither wants to leave the other side so I hope they make a little mini series in the future to see everyone in the university setting instead to show their growth.

🥂 Pod (Nut) & Papang (Tan): making an older couple among these teenagers is such a smart move because it gives the viewer a break from watching teenagers for 12 episodes straight and also it shows that adult also has a relationship and self problem and that being adult does not just instantly remove the problems teenagers face. anyways, these two as pairing work surprising well and I don't have a lot to say since their story is very straightforward so it's easy to understand.

overall, the plot resonates to me a lot especially the plot where they all struggle what path they want to take for their future. this for me is the definition of adorable to the max, everyone I just want to pinch their cheeks and this might be my comfort series in the future. I highly recommend it 🏫

It's cute and worth watching

I'd like to say that I wasn't gonna watch this at first, but then I realized Chokun was in it, and I loved him in Love Mix-Up so I wanted to see him in a BL so badly. In advance: I wasn't disappointed!

The main couple is cute. I think Mick Metas is not that expressive yet, so I don't have much to say about his acting, but there was a scene that he cried beautifully. Luke's character is super cute, very doglike, sweet and someone who demonstrate feelings, unlike Shane, who is very rigid with his emotions and rationality, which is a trope I like. I just got frustrated with them a bit, since they wouldn't communicate well.

On the other hand, there was Kim and Mon!! I love them together. I love how they were so quickly in love and even though they kept having problems, Mon was always willing to talk it out. I just love a couple that talks things out and make up!!! This was definitely my favorite duo.

I really liked the third couple, if you can call it that. I guess they were building a ship for future shows? They were cute but it was a little too bromance for me. I know they were supposed to be a confused friendship, two best friends that like each other but are afraid to admit it to themselves... But they should've been more deeply developed in my opinion.

I honestly didn't like the teacher couple, I think Papang's character was too cringy. Even creepy in a way. I didn't catch much chemistry between him and Pod.

So, I think the show was fun and MonKim had my heart warm again. I loved that things were resolved healthily at the end.

Wholesome, Not Hollow: Why Boys in Love is the Soft Escape We Need

Boys in Love is so sweet it might just give your therapist a cavity. This school-set BL series foregoes typical angst for pure affection, weaving three parallel love stories founded on mutual respect, gentle misunderstandings, and the kind of healthy communication most of us only dreamed of at 16. There’s no blackmail, no power imbalances, and certainly no dramatic goodbyes in the pouring rain. It almost feels too good to be true.

Yet, it undeniably works.

The series centers on a close-knit group of students, along with an endearingly awkward pair of teachers, as they navigate the complexities of school life, friendship, and first love. Each central pairing offers a distinct emotional journey: a shy genius finds connection with his rebellious student, a hopeless romantic meets his enigmatic new classmate, and a curmudgeonly veteran teacher shares his office with a bright, new colleague. The chemistry isn't flashy, but it’s deeply authentic, forged through shared glances, subtle character development, and quiet acts of care.

What truly elevates Boys in Love isn't a shocking twist or a dark subplot; it’s the series’ profound conviction that kindness is, in itself, compelling. Even when life delivers its inevitable messiness—divorcing parents, academic stress, diverging future plans—love can remain a steadfast anchor. It’s the comfortable, familiar embrace of a favorite hoodie in BL form.

Is it overly idealistic? Perhaps. But in a genre often drawn to toxic tropes and manufactured drama, Boys in Love stands out for its refreshing earnestness. It doesn't penalize tenderness; it celebrates emotional honesty. In a world that often feels overwhelmingly loud and cynical, this quiet, gentle storytelling isn’t merely desired—it’s essential.

In the end, Boys in Love isn’t just about falling in love—it’s about creating the kind of world where love has the space to grow gently, without fear.

the CUTEST

This show was actually so cute and wholesome. I love how the characters are so related and specially as a teenager. Shane with his "its all about the future" mindset and Mon with his worried about him and Kim being seperated, the "unreasonable" fights he had with him. (which is totally not unreasonable) Also, the vibe with show gives is so wholesome and kept me entertained the whole time. It kinda gave heartstopper vibes with the little parkles, things and sounds coming up on the screen when they feel something special. It was just so conforting and comfortable to watch.

Sweetness overloaded

What a wonderful watch it was. Though it was a teenage love series the couples were much more mature than any other adult. They actually "Talked" to each other comforted each other sorted things out by themselves. The way Kit brought out the loving and fun side of Shane taught me that everybody deserves love and everybody can love if they get a boyfriend like Kit. Kim and Mon were just too cute with an overflowing chemistry.

Loved every second of this show. Do watch and you won't regret it.

Didn't expect much. Wasn't disappointed.

It was sweet and cute. I loved the two mains couple.
I really loved the girafe plush TT It was so cute, I loved a lot KimMon love confession.

I'm sad to not know more about their college life, especially since Kim an Mon are supposed to be long distance relationship. And Shane and Kit seems to be unsure about their college life. I really hope they'll do a second season.

Young Love

Cuteness overload at its finest! This series delivers a simple yet endearing narrative that follows teenagers as they navigate the complexities of first love and self-discovery. While the storyline doesn't break new ground in the BL genre—it borrows familiar tropes and setups—it still manages to charm with its sincerity and youthful energy.

What truly elevates the experience is the fresh casting. The young actors bring a raw authenticity that fits their high school roles effortlessly. In particular, the tandem of Kim and Mon stands out—undeniably magnetic, their chemistry leaps off the screen and pulls you right into their world. Every glance, every stolen moment between them feels genuine, and it's the kind of on-screen pairing that makes you root for a spin-off or standalone series just to see their dynamic unfold further.

Yes, there are scenes that feel derivative if you’re familiar with other BLs, but there’s a comforting nostalgia in that too. The mix of cuteness and light thrills keeps the pace lively, even if the emotional beats play it safe. Still, the series knows its audience and embraces its sweetness unapologetically.

Overall, it’s a fun watch that doesn’t try too hard and doesn’t need to. It knows what it wants to be—and for what it is, it delivers. I’m giving it a well-deserved 4 out of 5 stars.
