A solid 8 - not perfect but worth the watch
The actors are fantastic. Mature, seasoned, in their own element. brilliant casting. The story itself is fantastical. nuanced and respctful to the ballroom dance scene and culture, yet boundary pushing to where it makes you ask “could that happen in real life”
The lack of relationship development is where this movie falls flat. I think you just need longer than a movie length to develop the tense and deep connection that they showed on screen. it sort of felt like a few time hops and the audience didn’t get to see those important moments.
but overall worth it!

Great Visuals and Enticing Moments but Ultimately Left Me Wanting
10 Dance started off well then lagged a bit in the middle and finally did pull off some of the anticipated emotional moments. Ryoma Takeuchi is physically stunning and he is adept at switching from exuberant dominance to a sensitive and vulnerable man in his roles. Keita Machida’s nuanced performance which was revealed through his body language and his eyes is a marvel to behold. Shiori Doi and Anna Ishii make the most of their subordinate roles with perfect grace and honest emotions. Where this was lacking for me was in two areas. First, the slow build attraction sets up expectations for the viewer but when Sugiki turns and rushes down to the train, enters the car and kisses Suzuki, this was the moment when there should have been a leaning in to the erotica. Instead, we are treated to a chaotic “dance” scene that broke the tension. This approach and retreat I realize was used for a reason in the movie but it left me wanting. Second, we know from the dialogue that dance is love yet I only saw brief moments of the love and joy of dancing in the honor dance. The majority of it displayed attraction for a partner. Overall I enjoyed the movie but found myself comparing it to Shall We Dance (1996) with Koji Yakusho. His character is initially drawn to the dance studio by lust; however, he is soon captivated by dance itself and falls in love with the joy of dancing. Was this review helpful to you?
... and if this never gets a sequel, I am happy with what we have. But I'd really like a sequel
Japanese BL movie, so I was scared about tragedy and a sad ending. Word on the street was so unclear about whether the so called "open end" of this movie comes with a positive or negative connotation, but ALL IS GOOD. All is good trust me. That open end is a serotonin high. This is a romance. The characters both had past relationships with women, 💜 🩷 💙 , and as the movie plays out, it's revealed that they are each other's professional and artistic inspiration. They're not just rivals.
Then they fall in love. It's implied that it's impossible for them to be together but my boy Suzuki was SMILING in that open end, AND there is this event in the last scenes, it's a stunning and incredible climax of the movie. It's on a level of delusion that it's either a mass hallucination, or 10Dance is coming in at a level of escapism that rivals Red White & Royal Blue, but we have to believe the impossible. We have to dream it into reality. Dance is about LOVE, and about the performers and the audience connecting. This movie does that, too.
The women deserve their own fluffy yuri spinoff. Tajima Aki and Yagamo Fusako are incredible characters, and good friends to Suzuku and Sugiki, and Suzuku and Sugiki are good friends in return. Truthfully, not always, but it is implied that the obstacles in their respective friendships in the end brought them closer together.
It's perfect. Obviously. Costuming is sexy as hell, and the music is phenomenal.

Dancers indeed
first; the two main actors were fantastic there is never a moment when i felt that they weren't a professional dancers. their emotional scenes were captivating. and the chemistry is damn fantastic.the choreography, the costume, the attitude of the actors themselves. I was rooting for them and was clapping like the audience in the movie like a maniac lmao.
The cinematography was beautiful & the music was totally good but i was hoping for something good at the end but it was good overall but feel like there is something missing at the ending like can you Imagine I was captivated & on cloud nine with their finale 10 dance of pure happiness and suddenly then they drop me with the end credit. I was literally stun for a minute. Was it been really already 2 hours!! i really didn't see the time passing seriously the drop was so sudden that I almost feel like rewatching lmao.
It was perfect yet seems incomplete It's really hard to tell how I really feel about it.
Overall, I don't regret watching this and enjoyed it!!!

Love makes it whole
Now I will write a full review but have to get this one out there. This movie I waited, I sat, and I got… boy this was a good one. Everything is there and so on. Acting, editing, score, passion… etc.I am not surprised this is so good considering the director of this project. I was a little scared that it wouldn’t go into the full love story, but it hit all the marks.
I only want a sequel now, that is my only short side here.

sophisticated and artistic rendition
Adaptation of Inouesatoh’s popular BL manga, 10 Dance, is a visually spectacular achievement that captures the high-stakes world of competitive dance. Directed by Keishi Otomo, the film shines through its technical dedication and the undeniable chemistry of its leads. The highlight of the film is the choreography, which clearly reflects the year-long intensive training undertaken by the cast. Ryoma Takeuchi (as Shinya Suzuki) and Keita Machida (as Shinya Sugiki) deliver phenomenal physical performances, moving with an authenticity that makes them indistinguishable from professional dancers.
While the film succeeds as a sports drama, it falters somewhat in its adaptation of the central romance:
Plot Focus: The narrative leans heavily into the mechanics of the "10-dance" competition, often treating the characters' personal stories as a side dish.
Relationship Depth: For viewers not already familiar with the manga, the developing relationship between Suzuki and Sugiki may feel under-explored. The source material's deep emotional underpinnings are present but sometimes lack the necessary screen time to breathe for a newcomer.
Costume Consistency: Despite the high production value, a notable missed opportunity was the lack of costume variety for Takeuchi Ryoma on the dance floor; a change in attire could have better reflected his character's growth or the different disciplines.
The film concludes on an ambiguous note that may leave some viewers feeling as though something is missing.
Overall, 10 Dance is a sophisticated and artistic addition to Netflix’s BL library. While it might require a "head start" from the manga to fully grasp the characters' sentiments, the breathtaking visuals and the production team's hard work make it a must-watch for fans of the genre.

A feast for our senses
10 minutes into the movie I felt regret already about not being able to enjoy it in a cinema setting. This movie would’ve deserved it. Big time!
The cinematography? No notes. 10/10
The depiction of two quite different but equally difficult complex characters and their unique courtship?
Amazingly portrayed in all their multilayered personas by Takeuchi Ryoma and Machida Keita. The chemistry could melt any screen.
As viewer I got captivated by their performance from the start and didn’t get released before the rolling credits.
The story.
For me there were no weak moments or missing points. We got shown an essential major part of their journey with enough background story strewn in to illustrate their respective mindsets. Worked for me.
And we got released at at point of their storyline, where their courtship and dance goals are not finished and fulfilled yet, but an important step, which felt and was monumental in itself, was taken towards each other and their goals.
So I am satisfied with it.
(But wouldn’t mind a sequel on bit! Please, please, please!)
Their dance at the end - a statement couldn’t be more beautifully made.
Japan. You did it again! 👏👏👏👏👏
I hope, this movie gets the attention and recognition on an international scale, it deserves.
I was either smiling or cutting onions the whole time by the sheer beauty of this movie and my joy, to watch it finally.

A Terrific Adaptation
Honestly it was a terrific adaptation.I don't remember the last scene happening in the manga... It's been years since I read it and the last volume that came out in my country is volume 5, so I know it's a bit behind the Japanese publication.
Anyway, I understand some people might be disappointed by the ending but it somewhat gives an openly satisfying ending to the movie...
If there's a sequel, that's great... but as there probably none coming, this probably is the best compromise they could reach given how the manga is still published and my GOD these two's relationship is even more tense and complicated in there. They're nowhere close to be together no matter how crazy about each other they are.
The acting was truly terrific. Both leads truly outdid themselves. The intimate scenes were really passionate and raw, something to really highlight here because Japan is not that good at them most of the time, but here?
They were just PERFECT.
Just again... Takeuchi Ryoma and Machida Keita just WOW 🥰🥰🥰
Anyway, as said, the end is the bit of a let down so I'm removing 0.5 for that... but honestly, they was just no time to do better which is also why I'm not holding it against the movie.
Well done, very well done Japan👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Conflicting feelings about this one :///
I'll start by addressing the things I liked. The cinematography was excellent! They really utilised that Netflix budget, which cannot be said for all projects. I like that it felt timeless almost. The romantic chemistry of our two leads was through the roof!! Props to them because their building tension and desire was palpable.
I think a downside to that is, it was underutilised imo. I really would have loved to see more of their romance. I understand it was a dance movie, but I think we could have done with 20% less dance and 20% more relationship development. As others have said, I also didn't love that it was an open ending. I'm hoping for a sequel, because if we don't get one it was rather unsatisfying.

Much better than expected
I had to force myself to finally watch it because dance dramas don't really appeal to me. But wow...The film was damn good. The dances were so good that they captivated me, and all the kissing scenes... Love it. I hope there will be a second film (very likely). Also good cast!

This review may contain spoilers
i was a bit disappointed. [sort of spoilers]
When I watched the trailer, I was hooked. After I saw the trailer, I discovered that it was based on a manga, so I went ahead and read it. In the manga, the sexual tension, their chemistry, and the overall storyline were top-notch. I was very excited and was looking forward to how they were gonna portray these, especially the sexual tension. And just as I feared. lots of parts, AND I MEAN A LOT of scenes, were not included in the movie. The movie did not include any tension before the "mystery of the black dressed yagami-san."
They did not include the part where Latin-Shinya got so happy after dancing as the woman with Ballroom-Shinya. Manga Latin-Shinya was jumping up and down because he felt like a princess. They just showed that Latin-Shinya only understood that the woman needs to be fully supported by the man.
the movie fully cut off Lantin-Shinya's family issues. The issues with his dad and his maternal family in Cuba, with 9 sisters, the reason why he didn't go international. The movie didn't show how Latin-Shinya rebelled against his father. How his opponents thought he deserved to be in the first place.
They didn't include the sponsor that Ballroom-Shinya got for Latin-Shinya, and they fought because of this.
the movie only showed that Latin-Shinya found Ballroom-Shinya dancing in the snow, but they didn't show that they also danced in the snow together.
the movie didn't show that Latin-Shinya was having a gay-awakening, although he said he likes girls.
where are Norman and angie? Norman was supposed to teach Latin-Shinya? I really wanted to see his Cheetahs.
the Latin world champions were missing too.
I only read up to vol 6. But I found so much lackings in the movie. Other viewers who didn't read the manga are questioning the lack of relationship development.
