I may be biased but…

This should’ve been the drama of the year. It was such a heartwarming show and had extremely low stakes, but a very high payoff. Jung So-Min is my favorite K-Actress which is where my bias may come in. In spite of that, this show gave me all the butterflies and I’m sure if it was flashier more people would’ve jumped on the bandwagon.

Only thing I didn’t like but can definitely get over was that I could only watch on Hulu. Worth it!

This was perfect with an amazing and unrushed ending.

Cute Moments Lost in a Messy Story

It started as a cute, fun romcom, the leads are adorable together and a few other characters make them worth watching. But as it went on the story got messy with too many random problems and lazy fixed. There are funny moments and some charming chemistry but mostly you be left wishing the writing had been stronger. Light, harmless fun but not something you regret skipping. overall it feels like it wasted its potential.

I had to really search through streaming platforms to watch this series. I had expected so much more from the story. But they kept it all loose till the end and then just rushed through it. Why can’t they pace it out properly. The ex family should have been out of the picture long ago and not left till the end

A Messy Predictable Story

This story has so much physical violence that I found it difficult to watch.

Me Ri's ex Ju's (Bum June} role was overdramatic and totally unrealistic She would never have stayed in a 5 year relationship with that Asshole. She would have had a retraining order on him. His mother and sister' behaviour would have chased Me Ri away. Me Ri reaction to tolerating his return should have been harsher. Me Ri's image was trashed with this portrayal.

Violence towards women. This is disgusting behaviour that producers seem to like perpetuating in their shows. Its not funny and its out of date. Woo Ju and his family degraded the script with this behaviour.

The interaction between new Ju (Woo Shik) and Me Ri was sweet. The romantic side lacked any depth of emotion for me. The script smothered Jung So Min's acting ability.

The obsession with correcting dishonesty before the story ends is outdated. Just look at the world we live in. Some of the most successful and wealthy people have skeletons in there closet and did not follow societal norms to get there. What Me Ri did was gaming the system. I do not judge her negatively for that. She was an opportunist, an important skill for advancing in Society.

The highlight for me was when Me Ri met the cactus.

Character developments

I think the most fitting words to describe this drama are "character developments". I grew to like many of the characters, even the loser ahh ex boyfriend. The storyline was a bit messy, but nothing too bad imo. I wished they didn't rush the ending though.
Also the chemistry between the female and male lead was nice.

I honestly didn’t expect to be this emotionally invested, but this drama completely blew me away. The storytelling was delicate yet powerful — every episode carried meaning, and the pacing never felt rushed. The chemistry between the leads was natural and heartfelt; their growth throughout the series was written beautifully.
What really stood out for me was the way the director captured emotions through simple gestures and silence. It wasn’t overly dramatic, but deeply touching. The soundtrack added another layer of emotion, perfectly matching the tone of each scene.
I also loved how every side character had purpose; none of them felt like filler. The finale left me both satisfied and emotional — a rare feeling these days. Overall, this show is a gem that reminds you why storytelling still matters. Highly recommended!

Loved

This drama is basically a stress-buster disguised as a love story. Nothing heavy, nothing complicated, just pure cuteness and comedy. The leads fight, flirt, and fall in love like it’s their full-time job, and honestly, they’re really good at it☺️☺️ production is great, everyone looks unfairly attractive, and the chemistry is so strong it should come with a warning label😉Perfect for weekends when your brain refuses to work and only wants romance, jokes, and pretty faces. I seriously need more dramas like this to survive life😍😍

I love ml and fl's chemistry the most in this one.

Overall, this is a rom-com worth binge-watching. The plot isn't heavy, and all the issues are resolved quickly. Every episode is satisfying.
I love ml and fl's chemistry the most in this one. This is truly the best part. Woo-sik and So-min's acting is so natural, and they have a uniquely charming quality. And it has a unique cuteness. It looks just right, not too much or too little. They're truly perfect for a rom-com.

The story was intended to be a light-hearted rom-com for the holidays, and it succeeds in that respect. It's not flashy or dramatic, just easy on the eyes.

There are some flaws that I find annoying, such as the villains and the exes, who get too much screen time. I think if ML and FL, as well as the second couple, had more time together, it would have been even cuter. The writers didn't give enough time for their bonding, even though this is the best and most enjoyable part of the story.

What should have been a simple, cute tropey RomCom turned into a mess

I went in without much expectations, and liked it a lot at first. Unlike Jung So Min's middling Love Next Door, it wasn't trying to be clever or deep, it was using pretty much all the Kdrama romance tricks we know and love (drunk meetcute, rich heir whose family got killed in a crash, childhood crush, fake relationship that turns real, a truckload of coïncidences, etc. etc.), and as a result since they had the cutest cast ever, it worked. It was basically the So Min and Woo Shik show. I found myself looking forward to the next episodes, but at some point the writing started to bother me beyond reasonable measure. First, the (many) villains were just a bunch of lazy carricatures, led by a two-faced psychopath, because apparently we can't have a Kdrama RomCom without one these days. Second, when I watch a fake marriage drama, I expect it to milk it a bit more by having our MC forced to pretend in public, but here, with the usurpation of her husband's identity, they wrote themselves into a corner by having their character forced to hide instead, which meant that the result was a very weird mix between the fake wedding trope and the secret affair one. I hoped the secondary couple would give me something else to look forward to, but I lost it at the abysmal boob-CPR scene (maybe I'm alone in this but I just hated how that scene was shot and written) and rage-quit soon after when the asshole ex resurfaced. I guess I'll just rewatch Because This is My First Life for the third time. It's a shame because at first it made me think of ye olde light romances like Full House (adorable down on her luck heroïne who is scammed and homeless, fake marriage with a grumpy rich man to keep the house) and I was so in.

Misogynistic at its finest

The biggest issue is the weak script. Kim Woo Joo's character feels bland and all over the place - he's supposed to be this "hopelessly romantic" guy but the script doesn't actually show that, just tells us through dialogue and some childhood trauma that feels really forced. The childhood connection trope is basically used as a lazy plot device to justify their feelings instead of letting them develop naturally. Woo Shik acts with his usual subtle touch, but the script needs bigger reactions, which creates this weird disconnection where his expressions make me feel "half-baked but unnecessarily dramatic." (weird, I know)

There's zero chemistry between Woo Shik and Jung So Min. I feel like they get thrown into this fake marriage situation without any emotional foundation, other than their childhood interaction, which is by itself so shallow an interaction that it does not even make any sense how they like each other. Every interaction feels transactional. I actually wanted to skip through their scenes because it is so awkward, which is the first for me for a drama with Choi Woo Shik. I have seen his past rom-com works with his past female colleagues, and I truly enjoyed them. The chemistry was great in OBS. In Melo Movie with PBY, I would argue that they don't have much chemistry during the kiss or skinshipped scenes, but I can still feel some tension and emotions between them in other scenes that allow some chemistry to go through (so yes, not as many chemistry as OBS but still great chemistry).

I also feel like the energy between Me Ri (chaotic, quirky) and Woo Joo (calm, grounded) so opposite and the directing doesn't know how to balance it. Each one is at their own end of two opposite spectrums but never truly meet in the middle.

The treatment of women in this show is seriously problematic (and I'm usually not the type who notices these things). All the female characters - except Me Ri's mom - are written as either mean or manipulative (notice that this is my feeling based on up to episode 5). This is to me clearly internalized misogyny in the writing. Even Me Ri character, she likes guys just because they're hot - even as a kid - which is to me incredibly shallow and insulting. She also does not seem to have any major drive or motivation of her own (other than the main trope of getting the fancy house); it's truly one-dimensional writing that I have not seen in quite some times.

Then, the styling and makeup for Jung So Min is so bad - it's like they're actively trying to make her look worse. The "quirky" wardrobe goes for messy, and not charming (I cannot count how many moments I say "wtf is she wearing"). Camera angles on her are often unflattering for no reason. It all feels like the production team doesn't respect the female lead.

About Jung So Min: I don't think she's acting badly, but rather, she's acting according to poor direction. She often has this vacant staring look that irks me the wrong way, which I think is what the director asked for but there's no proper emotional context for it.

In summary, WYMM fails on every level for me - character writing, pacing (painfully slow, one hour-long episode feels endless), chemistry, and how it treats female characters. It is so bad that it's not even entertaining to watch. Rather, it's painful and torturing.

The drama is fun and relaxing. I enjoyed watching it. The actors have great chemistry.

I love dramas where characters are thrust into uncontrollable situations like this. They must work together as a team to overcome the difficult situation.
What I particularly like are the kind-hearted main characters.
Meri is truly a character who deserves to be in a romantic comedy. She's kind, compassionate, understanding, and forgiving. The bad situation made her fall into a cycle of deceit, but she always felt guilty, and she also felt guilty towards Woo Joo for dragging him into this.
Woo-joo is a character who deserves to be in a romantic comedy. He's a very green flag, a good person, and a good protector. He understands everything Meri does and is always ready to help her in every way.
These two main characters make the drama even more enjoyable. They're not toxic to each other, they're not annoying or irritating. They just love each other and find what they're looking for.
Meri wants a husband who's loyal to her, loves her unconditionally, and is there for her through thick and thin. Woo-joo wants a kind-hearted wife who will rescue him from his childhood nightmare.
They just met at the right time and place. I especially love the scene where they met. Cactus Lovers, I will never forget them.

Classic and cute romcom

Its a classic romcom, who brings back the memories of korean drama back at around 2010. I love both main leads acting, and how their chemistry progressed from eps 1 toward the end. Jungsomin and ChoiWooshik micro expressions were so detail and funny. The annoying ex also success to annoy the viewers. Not too mentioned the second couple, they are so cute. After a long and hectic day, its safe to enjoy this light and entertaining drama.
