Very plain, very average, too many tropes

I mostly started watching this because of the main leads, I like them both and especially Jung So Min but the writing in this is just... average, plain, formulaic and trope-y.

The main problem is the story, that while it had a mildly interesting premise it doesn't feel like it was exploited to its potential by any means. You want a very plain romcom? this works, it's for you! It's watchable and has a couple of cute moments here and there and a couple of things that are mildly interesting but overall I was not impressed by anything, it's so average that week by week I was half forgetting what happened in the previous episodes.
I don't mind some clichés and tropes and if the characters make for it or the plot is interesting I can give it a pass but here with such a plain story where the main quirk aspect becomes very background and it all holds on those tropes then it just becomes something we have all seen at some point or another. There is not enough in-depth on the characters or story to make this stand out in any way for me.

- Handsome and rich ML? ✔
- Poorer FL that is struggling? ✔
- FL that is soft, submissive, always forgiving and always giving? ✔ (perfect woman right there).
- FL gets into a situation that gives her something she can't technically afford so she can live the rich live? ✔
- Second male interest (if we can call him that) that is annoying for the entirety of the show? ✔
- Mean ex-mother in law? ✔
- Leads know each other since kids? ✔
- Someone does something that they shouldn't but it's excused because they were drunk? ✔
- ML has traumatic past where parents accident was actually a murder? ✔
- Someone in the family did it? ✔
- Someone in ML's rich family that is a bit off/weary of FL's background? ✔
- FL works for or happens to do a job for ML's company? ✔
- Leads coworkers are all carefree, bubbly and extroverted? ✔
- Silly miscommunication that makes FL worried and gives her self-esteem issues about her background? ✔

As I said, I like So Min but I can't deny that I was puzzled why for the first half of the show she seemed at times to be standing there like "what I'm doing here, I don't want to do this" type of pose and expression. Her character was the martyr/devil's advocate type and since I'm not a fan I didn't enjoy the character much. ML on the other hand, despite his past and whatnot seemed to me very plain, at points he seemed as underdeveloped as some background character. In fact, I found some of the background characters to have more defined personalities than him, even if they were trope-y and single feature personalities.
Seo Bum June's character was so annoying I can't even!! (I mean, kudos to the actor, he played him well, what a piece of work!), and the plot spent way too much time on his side of the story and the end doesn't end up being that satisfactory even if at least consistent with FL's character personality. He basically suffers zero consequences despite his tantrum of entitlement.
All plot points that were supposed to create any type of tension were solved in a very quick anti-climactic way, and it's funny I have to say this because I would have preferred the plots to be different since they were not my cup of tea, but if you're going to do them at least do them well?
The uncle drama became towards the end so melodramatic and for me it crossed the line to cheap soap opera with the uncle's character overacting, it felt too overdone in general. Not only it was predictable and the audience already knew everything but the way it was quickly solved makes you wonder why they bothered. FL's ex story should have ended in the first episodes, he should have disappeared into oblivion with his new girlfriend to never be seen again. His drama with trying to expose the whole thing to in the end be solved that easily because the stars aligned was a bit... what was the point of this? The tension with ML's grandma being concerned with FL's background for half an episode was also pointless and I kept being quite tired of the miscommunication on purpose to serve the plot with the fact that you could barely call FL a divorced woman considering how the whole ordeal went, but the stigma is getting old. It's still that prevalent in Korea that can still be so overused in dramas? Either way, I'm sure they're not surprising anyone with what is already a trope in my eyes.
Second couple? interesting, more nuance, but overall not fully explored or fully developed and left at the point you want more. Him going to prison but we getting no info on what happened to his bosses felt very rushed, it was only there for his end of the story and to bury the raffle house situation, so the main drama of it was left as background.

The chemistry between the main leads was so-so for me for most of the drama, towards the end it improved a bit all of a sudden. Not going to lie it made me wonder if it was somehow also tied to what I previously mentioned of the feeling So Min was giving me for half of the drama, I don't know. I feel it's mostly towards the end of the drama that we see more intimate and relationship dynamics of the main leads and they looked cuter together.
And this is nitpicking but the wedding was unnecessary, and there were too many chairs for the amount of guests, like there was there 20 people tops and there were like 50 chairs, it was a bit eye roll.

Overall it's watchable, inoffensive and does have some average entertaining and cute moments, but it's mostly plain, formulaic and quite basic. If you don't have anything else to watch or you like the main leads maybe you want to give it a try, if you're looking for a good romantic story or substance in the plot I would say to avoid this.

PS: I want to point out the description of the drama here it's a bit misleading, especially this part "He is a talented marketing team leader and perfectionist, yet a logical narcissist determined to run the family business in his late father’s place." We don't get to see him being a perfectionist? He's NOT a narcissist, what is funny because there are a couple of narcs in the show, like FL's ex and his mother for example (the ex is clearly the golden child). ML is also not determined to run the family business, in fact he's hesitant and would prefer not to, as seen until the very last episode. If anyone is put off from this show because they have suffered from narcissistic abuse and you think it might be triggering to watch a ML that is that way let me reassure you it's not the case and he's not.

A contract-marriage rom-com that speedran every cliché and still f****ded-up at by ending.

✨ THE GOOD (LET’S BE FAIR):
The leads are likable. Like… genuinely. They carry hard.
The chemistry works, the soundtrack slaps in most parts , and for brief moments you think,
“Okay wait… this might actualy cook.”
It wants to be your comfort rom-com. You can feel the intention.

🙄 THE “ROM-COM ANY% SPEEDRUN” PACKAGE:
Fake marriage ✔
Shitty first relationship ✔
Prince-savior ML with tragic backstory ✔
Mandatory breakup pretending to be a plot twist ✔
All delivered at lightning speed especilly when it shouldn't , like the show was late for something.

🤦 THE “WHY DOES THIS FEEL SO RUSHED TO FINISH WHILE TAKING LONG FOR NO REASON MIDWAY?” ENERGY:
it screams “We planned 16 episodes and got cut to 12 mid-shoot. but f**k it we're gonna keep the same pace till the very end”
Moments barely land before the next trope kicks the door in.
Emotions build… then immediately get fast-forwarded like,
“Okay cool, next cliché.”

💔 THE “JACK OF ALL CLICHÉS, MASTER OF NONE” DEPARTMENT:
It has everything a rom-com needs — on paper.
But nothing gets time to breatheand and/or get's overkilled till you hate it.
Instead of depth, you get a highlight reel of familiar beats done with sponsers midway… fine.

🎯 FINAL VERDICT:
A perfectly serviceable, aggressively mid rom-com that checks every box and rushes past the feelings.

✔ Watch if: You want easy romance, decent chemistry, and zero surprises.
❌ Skip if: You value pacing, emotional payoff, or endings that don’t feel panic-edited.

☕ Best paired with: Snacks, low expectations, and the realization that “fine” is this drama’s final form.

best romcom 2025

From the very first scene, Jung So-min and Choi Woo-shik light up the screen with a connection that feels achingly real. Their chemistry isn’t the kind that needs big gestures or dramatic background music it’s in the smallest things a lingering glance, a half-smile, a quiet laugh shared between takes. Every look feels like a conversation, every silence feels loaded with emotion.
There’s something so effortlessly natural about the way they move around each other. When So-min smiles, Woo-shik’s entire expression softens, as if her presence shifts the atmosphere around him. When he looks at her, there’s a warmth in his eyes that makes it hard to believe it’s just acting. They don’t just play lovers they breathe the feeling of love into the scenes.
Their first touch in the drama isn’t even a big romantic moment it’s casual, simple, and yet electric. It’s not forced it’s natural, unspoken, and beautifully timed. Woo-shik has that quiet, gentle charm that makes everything seem sincere, while So-min carries that delicate grace that turns even the smallest moment into something memorable.
Every hug between them feels real. The way Wooshik pulls her closer, like he’s protecting her from the world, and the way Somin buries her face against his shoulder it’s the kind of hug that feels both comforting and heartbreaking. You can almost feel their hearts syncing in those moments. Their body language says more than the dialogue ever could.
The kiss scenes deserve special mention. They’re not about passion alone; they’re about emotion. Wooshik’s gentle approach, the way his hands hover before holding her face, and Somin’s soft, hesitant response it’s pure magic. It doesn’t feel choreographed. It feels spontaneous, full of nervous excitement, the kind that leaves you with butterflies.
There’s something so tender about their chemistry it’s not loud or showy, but deeply emotional. They make love feel calm, not chaotic. It’s love that’s built on trust, small gestures, and shared glances. You see it in the way she looks up at him when he talks, and the way he leans down, just enough to close the distance.
Throughout Would You Marry Me, their dynamic evolves beautifully. In the early episodes, there’s a playful awkwardness shy smiles, teasing remarks, stolen glances. As the story progresses, it turns into something deeper and more emotional. By the midpoint of the show, you can feel the tension not the uncomfortable kind, but the kind that makes you root for them even more.
Wooshik’s charm is undeniable. He brings warmth and subtle humor to his character. The way he looks at Somin feels full of admiration. And So-min, with her expressive eyes and soft smile, makes every moment shine brighter. Together, they have that rare kind of chemistry that makes even silence between them meaningful.
Their laughter feels real. Their tears feel shared. Their fights, though small, carry real emotional weight because you can see how much they care for each other beneath the anger. There’s no exaggerated drama, no forced romantic tropes. It’s the simplicity that makes it perfect.
Even the way they stand next to each other looks right. Their height difference, their body language it’s like they were meant to be cast together. You can’t imagine anyone else in their roles. The drama thrives on that unspoken comfort between them, that ease that only comes from genuine connection.
So-min’s smile is a weapon soft, disarming, full of emotion. Woo-shik’s gaze is calm but powerful. When those two meet, it’s like time stops for a second. You don’t see actors; you see two souls falling in love in front of you.
The romantic tension in this drama never feels fake. Whether they’re walking side by side, sharing coffee, or sitting quietly after a fight, there’s always something happening something emotional, something tender. You can feel the energy, even when nothing is said.
One of the most heart-melting things is how respectful and gentle Woo-shik’s character is toward So-min’s. The way he listens, the way he looks at her before speaking — it’s pure care. And So-min responds with the kind of affection that’s calm but strong. She doesn’t need to overact her eyes tell the whole story.
Their on-screen chemistry carries an aftertaste you finish an episode and still feel their connection. It lingers, like a song stuck in your head. The way they share a laugh or exchange a shy look feels so natural it blurs the line between acting and reality.
In every romantic scene, they build a slow rhythm you can almost hear their heartbeats syncing. The lighting, the pacing, the camera angles everything works perfectly to highlight how real their chemistry feels.
The best part? It’s not just about attraction. It’s about comfort. They look at each other like home. When Woo-shik hugs So-min, she melts into it like it’s the safest place in the world. And when she smiles up at him, his eyes light up like he’s found everything he’s been searching for.
Would You Marry Me doesn’t rely on flashy romance it relies on raw, emotional truth. Somin and Wooshik’s chemistry is what carries the entire story. It’s the heartbeat of the show.
Their scenes are full of warmth the little smiles, the teasing banter, the comfortable silences. There’s something so human about how they interact. It’s love that feels lived-in, not performed.
their connection feels unbreakable. Every kiss feels earned, every touch meaningful. When they finally confess their feelings, it’s not a surprise it’s a relief. You’ve been waiting for it, and when it happens, it feels perfect.
Jung So-min and Choi Woo-shik have created one of the most believable, heartwarming pairings in K-drama history. Their chemistry is undeniable sweet, soft, mature, and full of emotion. It’s a love that feels both cinematic and real.
Somin’s elegance and Wooshik’s quiet charm complement each other beautifully. Together, they make Would You Marry Me (2025) not just a drama but a feeling. You don’t just watch them fall in love; you feel it.
Their chemistry is a masterpiece of subtlety a gentle touch, a knowing smile, a deep gaze that says everything. It’s love written in body language and silence.
And that’s what makes their pairing unforgettable.

A simple yet impressive drama series. It evokes a high level of emotion. Sadness and happiness seem to drown us. My favorite actor is Choi Woo Shik, he's always amazing.

They played their roles perfectly, the comedy and romance felt real off-screen. I couldn't tell if they were acting or if it was real. Hahaha.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – A Heart-Stealing Gem!

Would You Marry Me is easily one of the most charming K-dramas of the year. It really bring the old fluffy romcom ! Jungsomin my queen dropping another hit show ?❤️

I think “#WouldYouMarryMe” is a show you should watch yourself to really know if you like it or not. A quick summary won’t show how fun and sweet it really is! This drama is a classic Korean romcom, just like the old days (around 2004–2018) when K-dramas were full of cute, romantic stories that made us smile without thinking too hard.

And Yes, the story is simple and easy to guess, but the way it’s made is special. Every scene has something nice—pretty colors, sweet moments, soft laughs, and warm feelings from the characters. It’s perfect for when you need a break from real life and just want to smile and relax

The Sincerity of the main leads are captivating

This story line is a classical story, but the performance of the two main leads (Kim Woo Joo and Yoo Mae Ry) were out of the box. The chemistry, the love language, the connection that bring them back to the their first meet long, long ago and the destiny that Made them reunited Will make you have that stupid smile.
And, For the second leads, the love story were sooo fresh!!

Watch it! And you'll find crave for more!
