Maybe the expectations were too high, Thus being lead to few disappointments.
“Would You Marry Me”.Best way to describe the drama would be, "A Fun Tuesday with great music".
Like when it is mid-week and you feel like the day is going to be normal and nothing usual, but it turns into a surprisingly refreshing day. When you vibe to the music as the day feels the same but there is something about the feeling of being refreshed, maybe because the weather or surroundings decided to be bit more positive than usual.
Although there is criticism, maybe because we had very high expectations which may have led to the feeling of being a bit disappointed.
Even though the story was the most basic and cliched out, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would because I expected it to be an average drama, but it was more fun because of my low expectation.
I am not sure if I would have been able to enjoy it this much if it was some other time of the year, but I am glad it gave the feeling of being refreshed, like it didn't consume my energy of watching it instead it left me feeling more energized.

This is my first review, so please overlook any mistakes.
I mainly started this drama for the leads, but it could’ve been better. It began with a rom-com vibe, but ended up turning into a regular family-conflict drama. Honestly, I lost my interest after episode 5.
Starting with the main leads—after the female lead gets cheated on by her fiancé, she accidentally meets the male lead who happens to have the same name as her fiancé. After that She wins a lottery where she has to introduce her husband, so she takes the male lead along pretending her husband. Up to this point, I genuinely enjoyed the story.
But after episode 5, all the family plotting and conflicts were added, which kind of ruined the rom-com vibe for me. I feel like it would’ve been better if they kept it simple and ended it as a proper rom-com.
As for the second leads, I really liked them. It would’ve been great if they had more screen time.
I’d suggest watching it casually if you’re free, but it’s not a must-watch.

Surprisingly okay, good enough for what it is.. Nothing fancy, nothing new.. A solid cast and strong performances are let down by inconsistent direction and an uncreative script.. The end result is a drama that feels as though the production team’s main goal was simply to finish the whole thing and say goodbye.. I couldn’t help but feel that it could have benefited greatly from a director willing to interpret rather than just record.. A missed opportunity..While this drama is neither horribly bad nor average, it is a dull mix of stale stereotypes and recycled plot devices.. I am okay with these mid tier, cliche tropes as long as they are used in a way that drives the narrative without overwhelming it, but that balance isn’t here.. If not for the solid cast carrying this poorly written script, this could have been a much worse drama.. That said, it does manage to get pretty good in a lot of parts..
We are all exhausted with the constant reuse of childhood connection tropes, fake marriages, contract marriages and the whole lot.. We keep craving something different.. But, but, but.. Even with all that, I don’t want to be too harsh on this drama.. I guess this whole review is going to sound contradictory.. Because even though I want to join the rest of the voices out there, I honestly don’t hate the drama the way a lot of people did..
Halfway through the drama, it’s pretty easy to guess how the rest of the story will unfold.. Who the antagonist is, how everything connects to his parents death and all of that.. You don’t even have to be smart to predict it, we have seen this exact setup way too many times in way too many dramas.. But then they went and trivialized everything.. The business takeover, the financial fraud, all of it was treated like child’s play.. Everything was resolved far too easily and way too quickly.. There was no cleverness, nothing that made me go, 'Wow, look how they handled that' These were serious crimes.. Hell, the man murdered so many people.. They had a perfectly strong story right there to build toward a solid ending.. Instead of writing a proper conclusion around that, they chose to focus on the stupid fake marriage angle.. I started getting worried when the murder plot and the uncle’s involvement were being unraveled a bit too fast, which obviously meant they were going to waste the last two episodes tackling the ex-bf and those subplots.. And honestly, that was never going to help the drama end on a high note..
In short, the drama was directionless.. Some moments felt like a calm walk through a quiet park, but the rest felt like being lost in the woods without a map.. Things were moving, but there was no goal, they just moved.. Can I absolutely write this drama off as bad?? No, but that’s precisely the problem.. It’s not that there is nothing redeemable here, it’s that the drama never does anything with its redeemable parts.. It has so much potential, yet it simply never delivers on it..
I think a lot of people will agree with me on this, the second couple felt more appealing.. Their story was raw.. There wasn’t really any romance to speak of but the subtle emotions and small, honest moments between them worked so well.. I guess there was more to their story that we could have dug into.. And special appreciation to Bae Na Ra, I want to see him in more projects, hopefully as a lead sometime soon..
Overall, Would You Marry Me is a drama you watch solely for the cast.. While the story is disappointingly uninnovative, it still has moments you can enjoy.. You won’t be shocked by who the villain is, you won’t be shocked by the conclusion, the drama does nothing you haven’t already seen before and done better.. I had quite a lot more to say here about the FL’s ex, her ex-inlaws and her mother, but this has already turned into a rant of conflicting thoughts..
So, this whole monologue was to say that while I have objectively given this drama an 8, whether it deserves that really depends on your emotional response.. I recognize its script and structural flaws and I might find it average if I were to rewatch it on another day.. But ratings are a mix of instinct and emotion and I am comfortable sticking with my 8..

So Min and Woo Shik’s chemistry = a true com-rom dream
This is the true com-rom I’ve been looking for for so long. I absolutely love So Min’s acting , the way she moves so naturally from sadness to comedy is just incredible. Her expressions feel so real, you can feel every emotion through her eyes. The interaction between her and Woo Shik is so natural and fresh, their chemistry makes every scene shine. And that drunk scene — I’ve watched it more than fifty times and I still laugh every single time! So Min as Yoo Mary completely stole my heart. I can’t wait for the next episode, especially to see how they live together as a fake couple.
The OST fits perfectly, and the color palette of the drama is so soft and beautiful — it makes everything feel warm and romantic. This drama is pure comfort, full of laughter, heart, and sincerity. I’m totally in love.

A Perfect 12-Episode Rom-Com with Unforgettable Chemistry
Even though this drama only has 12 episodes, it still delivers everything so well — the story, the romance, and the heartfelt moments. I honestly wished it could be longer, but they managed to solve all the problems beautifully within those 12 episodes.I truly love the chemistry between the main leads. I never expected So Min and Woo Shik to match this well, but their connection feels so natural, their acting, their timing, their little moments, everything fits perfectly. The Woori couple will stay in my heart for a long time, even after the show is over.
This is the kind of light rom-com I enjoy so much, the type I can rewatch again and again without getting tired. Thank you to all the cast for bringing such beauty and warmth to WYMM. It really is a perfect drama for me.

Watched it for second leads
A decent watch but definitely slow and dragged in places. The most satisfying part was seeing the guy get cheated on by the same girl he cheated on Yoo Meri with karma delivered. The second leads were surprisingly good and honestly deserved more screen time. Overall, not bad, but could’ve been tighter and more engaging. Was this review helpful to you?
I finished it, but at what cost...
This was an unfortunate disappointment. It started off strong, but then it stuttered in the middle, and then took an unrepentant nosedive in the end. There were so many times where the show laid down it's logic and then completely ignored it for random cliches. There were too many missed opportunities.Loved the OST though.

Cliche and simple but done so well
The story is not new - childhood trope, fake marriage trope, cheating ex trope - but still this drama feels fresh and exciting. It makes you want to come back for me, waiting for every bit of crumb each week to drop mid week, ahead of the next episodes. Why? Because the actors Somin and Wooshik make the characters bounce off the page/screen. I cannot imagine how a normally cringy scene can make I smile sheepishly and hit my pillow. Can’t get enough of them on screen. The actors make you feel like you are fly on the wall watching a real couple interact. On top of that all the other characters are likeable and interesting too - like the cousin and the auntie, the second ML and FL and I love the Grandma and the secretary. I didn’t give a 10/10 because the story finished too quickly, 16 episodes would be perfect. Was this review helpful to you?
Lacking in Every Aspect
The first episode had me hooked. It was cartoonish and tropey, yet charming and lighthearted. It didn’t take itself too seriously, and, as an audience member, I didn’t either. But, like many K-dramas, it only went downhill from there. Characters became more illogical and annoying with each new episode. The plot, a bastardization of better rom-coms that came before it, was held together only by a thread of coincidences and the audience’s sheer force of will. Were there upsides to this horrific experience? Yes, a few. The comedy was actually pretty decent up until the second half, when the writers forgot this was a rom-com and started writing a murder thriller. Plus, I discovered Bae Nara, whose character is arguably the best written in the show.See, I started watching this for Jung So-min. She was great at first, but I started to notice a gradual decline in her acting. She always looked confused at times when her character was supposed to be feeling fear, anger, love, and other emotions. That really didn’t help in selling the romance. And her character, Yoo Me-ri… don’t even get me started on that moron. She was initially portrayed as brilliant, detail-oriented, morally upright, and ever ready to defend herself. But that all disappeared pretty quickly because the plot had no use for such qualities. I mean, how’s the ML supposed to save her if she can save herself?
Another issue with this is the FL’s ex. He’s toxic, abusive, and manipulative, but the show doesn’t treat it as seriously as it’s supposed to. They mostly played it up for laughs, but it was not funny at all. They never should’ve portrayed such serious subject matter in the first place if they knew they weren’t ready to go all in.
The villain plot in this is so unnecessary, but not as unnecessary as the childhood trope. Something that was meant to act as a catalyst to kickstart their romance ends up being the only reason they fell in love. There’s no substance or deep conversation—just googly eyes and fawning over each other’s looks. Yet somehow the ML is willing to sacrifice everything for her, as men normally do for women they barely know. Chemistry would’ve helped, but that’s absent too.
The secondary couple had so much potential, but poor time management caused theirrelationship to feel sidelined. They were actually one of the few good things about this show.
All these gripes, however, pale in comparison to my greatest issue with this show: coincidences. I can’t imagine where the plot would be without them. Most of the major plotlines advance because characters randomly overhear vital information from gossip or private conversations. In fact, gossip is the main method of information dissemination in this show, and side characters simply exist to gossip. Also, characters bump into each other several times a day purely out of coincidence. It makes you wonder if all the houses, workplaces, restaurants, and bars in this show are located on the same street. It’s ridiculous.
Frankly, I was only able to watch this show by turning my brain off first. It didn’t stop me from questioning all the madness, but at least it stopped me from losing my shit. The ending was mediocre slop that AI could’ve easily thrown together. Who knows—maybe AI did write this. Sure seems that way.

Truly the most drama a drama can be
First I`d like to thank every person involved with this drama,as I`m well aware of how tough it must be to create, write and produce a drama, even if it results in such a bland show. This is my way of giving respect to everyone. And it also serves as a good enough segue way into my thoughts going forward. After such a long time, I`ve decided to go back to my roots and take up review writing again. And it`s for a project which boasts both Woo Shik and Jung So Min. Actors I am usually very excited to see on my screen. *Usually*. Unfortunately, `Would You Marry Me` truly felt predisposed in becoming another favorite of mine, were it not for one pretty serious issue: THE STORY.
Upon reading the synopsis, one might think `Would You Marry Me` would be a very interesting cousin of a beloved(at least in my household) drama called `Because This is My First Life`. The long title, both feature Jung So Min down on her luck, cohabitation romance and a seemingly colder male lead who eventually becomes the most affable lover one might imagine.
You`d be wrong. There is a very crucial part of `Because This is My First Life` that is missing in `Would You Marry Me` and that is THE DEPTH. As I was watching this drama, I was reminded time and time again of older romcoms. But not in a complimentary way. More in a, why is this happening now? What is the purpose of this? sort of befuddled way. And when I finished this drama, I was ashamed to admit I did not remember anyone`s name, apart from the female lead. No one truly left any sort of an impression on me.
This drama started out great, is the sad part. It really did. The OST sounded light and airy, the direction seemed competent, if not a touch overzealous. This was supposed to be fun, finally. And yet...
And yet, even for a 12 episode drama, this one felt far too long. It felt like it had way too many sideplots, none of which were fleshed out to a satisfactory degree. And one trope in particular REALLY got on my nerves because it was truly the biggest part of why this drama collapsed on itself. Any sort of enjoyment past the use of that trope felt unearned and bland. I can`t think of any other quote to describe this drama but `What a shame`. It had so much potential, such star power, even the length seemed reasonable. It is like having a great recipe and ingredients of high quality to make a truly remarkable dish. Everything starts out great, you follow the recipe by the letter, you put your dish in the oven...and you burn it. That is how I would describe `Would You Marry Me`.
I could go on and on about how it could have been improved, because had it been tweaked even by a smidge, it could have been a good drama. Alas, as it stands, this one is truly the most average of shows you could watch. It makes for good background noise as you`re working or doing your tasks. It is inoffensive, bland and you will probably forget about it as the credits roll.
...
Bon Appetit!

My Weekend Happy Pill
Would You Marry Me is the kind of com-rom that stays in your heart long after the final episode. One of the brightest parts of the drama is Jung So Min’s warm, natural acting. She doesn’t just portray Meri — she lives her. Every emotion feels genuine, every moment feels alive, and it’s clear she put her whole heart into the role. Her small expressions, her softness, and her sincerity make Meri a character you truly care about. Her chemistry with Woo Shik is effortless and real, the kind that makes you smile without even noticing. Together, they create scenes that feel comforting, sweet, and beautifully natural. The supporting cast also adds fun, humor, and heart, making every episode enjoyable from start to finish.
Even with only 12 episodes, the drama delivers warmth, laughter, healing moments, and a satisfying story. For me, this drama became my happy pill every weekend. Watching it made me smile, forget my stress, and feel lighter. It’s the kind of show you want to rewatch whenever you miss that warm feeling.
I really love it, now miss them so much.
