12 episoded to go nowhere.

After completion of this drama i only has two feelings 1. Why the hell ML family is out of jail, yes whole family. 2. What about coffee shop owner, he died and nobody got punished , He was literally pushed to his death by this husband and wife duo and both morally corrupt. At the end the wife didn't had problem with herself, not a bit of guilty conscience, like my brother saw me having affair my characterlessness as the last thing before he died rather she was fighting with husband. Also the affair plot was there only to show the main lead as cuck. In comments someone wrote its like the gentlemen netflix so i went and watched it and mad concrete dreams was nowhere near it. If u have to show morally corrupt leads who will do anything for so called "family " then u can't make him cuck, cause he will never go to these lengths being cuck, also the daughtee is no better than these corrupt parents. She never asked her mom in whole 4-5 episodes, mom why u had sex with other person when father only loved u. One plus point of this show was The American japanese killer girl, whoa i loved her, her acting her dialogue delivery, i thought i have seen her and boom i knew her from the film with a thin body serial killer in which she suicides to make that person guilty, why she isn't FL, she has to. Anyway only watch if u are ok with simp Male lead and characterless Female lead and all side characters beside one idiot or hungry for money, those who are rich (the old women) them also , she was such a bad old person died while going to blast the pipes in others home🤣.

Better than I thought.

I'm usually at odds with ratings and how they can strongly influence whether a piece will be watched or not. Unless it's something I flat don't want to watch or has uncomfortable subjects and all that, I prefer to take a few in B4 deciding. Drama fits well into that category~
It's one of those entertaining gems that displays Murphys law pretty well. Something always goes wrong. If it can go wrong, more than likely it will. Let's take that disaster and compound after problem after problem after problem............and when you think it's done and over with? Boom! Blindsided with a few more. That is the story of Mad Concrete Dreams~
A normal family trying to survive and better themselves, makes a couple of mistakes, a couples of errors in judgment, a couple bad decisions, and gets caught in a neverending merry go round. Trying to fix one thing just oed to another. The story worked. A quartet of A list actors with the usual familiar faces surrounding them~
The problem I had was with ML. His character was a tall solemn hard working man who never shows much emotion, plugging away daily to make ends meet for his wife and daughter. The almost complete lack of emotion was his strength and also the problem. Things got really bad and there were no scenes I felt where that facade cracked, as in you were not able to tell throughout the whole drama what he was thinking, feeling, which meant he didn't or wasn't able to convey any emotions like fear or sense of urgency. He was a robot and I didn't like not being able to tell WTH was going on in his head. That was my only beef worth this piece~
This was not a popular show rating wise and here but I liked it. Was chaos from start to finish, ppl in over their heads, and was entertaining to watch. I recommend watching the 1st 2 eps and I can say if you liked it, then continue to watch knowing things will just continue to spiral~

Masterpiece thriller and karma lesson - Wow mess created by amateurs - amazing plot

This drama is a total masterpiece, it is so unique, so twisty wicked, and such excellent acting, and totally totally crazy dark hilarious thriller plot!!!! Never seen anything like this. There is NO WORDS to describe this drama... ! I feel like I got on a rollercoaster and am going at the speed of 200mph to up/down of 1000 ft. I bet bunjee jumping, flying on kites, etc feels like watching this drama!!!!!!

The overall message is deep, about karma and choices we make under pressure. ML is an honest hardworking guy who is pushed down and under, and he has to somehow survive - and by chance, he makes some money - and that .... makes him.... well watch and see.

This is an amazing amazing masterpiece drama. So carefully calculated.... with lots of comedic elements but in a very dark way.... with warped warmth... with cover ups and twists.....

It starts by tricking the audience to think that this is some kind of a comedy of absurdity bc the ML is a rather dumb ordinary family man... and his partner in crime is dumb too... and they keep making mistakes that will make you open your jaw and roll your eyes in complete WOW IS THIS LEVEL OF SLOPPY DUMB EVEN POSSIBLE... ??? ..
And it seems like wth a very simple and stupid drama..

So... the audience gets tricked into thinking it is two dumbos ... but .....
wow that was just a bait and a setup... !!!!!!
bc then... the drama pulls the plug under you and the entire background is exposed - and so nothing was as it seems!!!! - and the drama throws you into dust and a into a tornado, as the drama takes a sudden U turn into a high stakes thriller crazy chaos.

And you realize that you had NO idea, that the drama totally duped you, that everything you thought you saw, was incorrect, and that NOTHING was as it seemed... except the ML lol but even him - we do not know enough yet... !!!! Slowly but surely, all kinds of sides of that man show up... ... !!!! Wow... !!!!

And - the most absurd thing is - everything that happened, is actually possible in real life.

SO DO NOT LET YOUR GUARD DOWN,
DO NOT MAKE ANY ASSUMPTIONS,
nothing in this drama is as it seems !!!!!!

it is AMAZING tight script and great acting.
and a complete chaos done by amateurs

The psychological thriller is that characters show their true colors under pressure, and you realize **nobody** is as they seem. WOW brilliant!!!!
The thriller is a group of amateurs causing total mess and destruction and pulling more and more people in, amateurs and professionals

it is like watching a domino effect, or a hurricane gaining power

Maybe a good name for this drama is .. MAD DOMINO EFFECTS? no it does not convey this feeling of total enmeshed unexpected chaos that keeps spreading - as all relationships backfire in most unexpected ways!!!!

The real name of this drama is NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS SO DONT JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS AT ALL! or... you will be humiliated later :) when all your prejudice and preconcieved notice and blindness will be exposed and you will see how wrong you were

Spoiler hint: the curtain falls and the U-turn into a high stakes thriller happens in Ep 4. By that time, you are too comfortable having a totally wrong opinion of what you are watching :) and the SLAM! hits you even harder :)

Also, the drama is a fantastic social commentary... about an ordinary low-level man's greed.... he wants more, and given a chance, turns into a monster to get it.

I think we are now watching that kind of people in real life as the start of WW3 by bombing Iran etc

Mad Concrete Dreams is the story about ANY hideous thing done by "good people" ...... who were given a chance to do bad and got totally obsessed with greed and kept going. There are so many such examples in real life and world history.......

MCD although it looks "fun" is a super deep insight into human psyche and what happens when you get tempted to abandon the universal principles of good karma aka "moral and ethical principles".

MCD ML is a "good ordinary person" who is a good householder, a good neighbor, a good citizen in general, trying hard by honest means..... and who, given a chance, does monstruous things.

He loves his wife and daughter and is good to his friends and neighbors. So how far does this "love" and "good friend and neighbor" stretch under the right conditions... ? Where is the line between driven to succeed and being overcome by greed and selfishness?

At the end, none of the characters grew much. They grew how much they were capable of.
ML paid for his choices by being left alone without family, friends and supporters.

PS - So if you are going to compare MCD with anything, it has to be something equally deep and meaningful. The only two pieces I could think of, that I watched so far, are Walking on Thin Ice and Dream Life of Mr Kim.

Mad Concrete Dreams is like Mr. Kim Walking on Thin ice... it is a criminal Mr. Kim, with criminal wife

Watching others’ suffering that stems from greedy desires gone too far proves delightful

Sometimes you just want a break from good&evil and want to be able to hate pretty much everyone on your screen or, to be more clear, like the most honest of the horrible humans on it! You know, the ones who don’t make whining excuses for being rotten but just delight in their own kind of success and work hard to do well at their particular version of very awful human existence.

This is that show. It starts with a steady family man who really wants to make enough money so his deaf daughter can undergo an operation… and thanks to a friend, opportunity DOES knock, and it knocks hard at his door and turns into hard knocks of his life.

Seeing pretty repugnant people spiral downward, seeing the empathy you thought you’d have for someone shatter because you find out the darker, murkier truths about them… it is not for most viewers, especially not sweet spring flowers like the majority on here who are precious babies when compared to the likes of me (okay, that would be most everyone, so I am a bad example).

This tickles the part of my brain that shouts, “ damn them all” and “kill it with fire!” You know what? I enjoyed letting that part of my brain delight in Shim Eun Kyung’s performance in particular, especially since she was honestly the main one I really wanted to see and initially was upset wasn’t a main role. That disappointment sure didn’t last. She was bloody FANTASTIC.
—Side note/sales pitch on her performance: Got someone who you occasionally wish to be anywhere from forcibly removed from within 1k km of you to unalived because they’re so horrible? (Muskrat Elon and his DumpTruck orange spray tanned idiot who traded porcelain thrones for gold potential ones on the big stage… your small stage equivalents could be anyone from local criminals to colleagues who spread malicious gossip to people who wear heavy perfume to work when signs say no fragrances bc, like, people with allergies are abundant there… or maybe they just talk about politics and lean toward nutjob conspiracies and pick fights… or they bash your favorite musician.)

Petty, serious, whatever it is, they may, when you see her in action, make you think of paying her very well to do what she thrives in and enjoys already. 🤌 I love her.

Anyway, this is a domino effect on a scale few dramas even dare to go because face it, when no one is very likable, even one of the two “innocent” ones for most of it, the audience will be limited to a much smaller, mostly older set who enjoy watching things that are both way darker than their day to day lives AND
reflecting their/their acquainted people’s daily humanity (or lack thereof). Not a casual watch that you can multitask or keep looking away/being distracted by if you want to actually enjoy it. The small moments are what matter, what snowball into the big ones… and like I said, both because it is uncomfortably relatable in how hard it is to consistently stay afloat and do both well and do right… and moreover because their suffering feels worse than my own day to day, it is truly satisfying.
9/10 from me, solid but with a thousand caveats to recommending!

A Concrete Asylum

It was gripping, I’ll give it that; but damn, did this show make me suffer!

This has to be one of the most frustrating, hair-pulling, and downright absurd series I’ve watched in a while, constantly throwing wild curveballs. It leaned into its erratic turns right till the end.

The characters are brilliantly infuriating, the timing feels almost cursed, and nothing ever unfolds the way you expect. And when something finally does happen after all that waiting, it somehow makes everything worse, to the point you might actually blurt out profanity.

It’s the kind of show that keeps your blood boiling, but you still don’t stop watching. At every point, I just wanted to see what the hell was going to happen next.

The MC and his wife are downright exhausting. Half the time, I found myself wondering how any of the characters ended up like this. Or rather, why they continue making such infuriating choices while wearing those “just another day” expressions. It’s unsettling how much this probably reflects real human behavior.

The MC especially makes you question whether he’s absurdly lucky, constantly dodging consequences, or simply cursed and stumbling toward his own downfall. Either way, he easily takes the crown for being a fox in sheep’s clothing.

Everything here feels like pure mayhem, and at times, completely nonsensical, but somehow, the ride is still worth it.

With a frustrated sigh and more curses than I’d like to admit, I watched it all. It’s undeniably addictive. Every episode left me with mixed emotions: frustration, curiosity, disbelief, all tangled together. It’s unpredictable in the most exhausting way possible, yet it still pulls you in.

The only characters I genuinely felt bad for were Darae and Kim Gyeon. Jeon I Gyeong sits in that uncomfortable middle ground, part sympathy, part side-eye, but still understandable in her own way. Then again, the entire series lives in moral grayness, blending stifled laughter with
despair under a layer of dark comedy.

And I can’t ignore Yo Na. Our psychopath absolutely steals every scene she’s in.

Now, The soundtrack. How ironic! It gives moments a light, almost playful tone while the characters are internally spiraling with eerie calm, like nothing is wrong at all.

Overall, it’s an experience of its own. It doesn’t always make logical sense, but emotionally, it lands, even while testing your patience. Somehow, it kept me watching, even when I kept questioning why.

It earns the investment it demands. It’s _Mad_ Concrete Dreams, after all. At its core, it’s about people, and the lengths they go to before slipping into madness. And about family… but even then, it reminds you that people are still individuals, driven by their own desires, no matter the label.

Why injustice hurts more than loss

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Between the Lines
igiam’s reflections on drama, character and hidden meaning
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

When everything around you starts to collapse… what do you hold on to?

Watching Mad Concrete Dreams feels like witnessing a slow destruction — not only of circumstances, but of trust, dignity, and human limits.

What makes this story so powerful is not just the conflict itself, but how far people are willing to go when they feel they have nothing left to lose… and how easily others take advantage of that moment.

There is anger in this story. Injustice. Manipulation.
But beneath all of that, there is also something else: resistance.

Because sometimes, the real struggle is not about winning…
but about not losing yourself in the process.

O Dinheiro Move o Medo e a Traição
