I fell in love with the movie and it broke my heart

It was literally the best movie I've ever seen in my life! I knew the ending would be harsh and painful, but I still wanted to see the chemistry between the main leads, and the trailer looked so catchy and fresh for korean cinema. The movie reminded me of "20th century girl," but it's still different from it, with its own unique features. The only similarity is the ending.
Starting from bts I could feel the chemistry between Choo Young Woo and Shin Shi Ah! They both did a great job and their acting was captivating. Their eyes spoke volumes.
The cinematography in the drama is excellent, with beautifully shot scenes.
I highly recommend watching it, but if you don't like dramas with sad endings, don't even start!

More Than Memory: A Story About Disappearing

This film is often described as heartbreaking, but that’s not what makes it special.
It hurts because it thinks.

At its core, this is not a story about forgetting to avoid pain. It shows something far more uncomfortable: that forgetting doesn’t guarantee relief, because what truly matters leaves a mark beyond conscious memory. Love doesn’t disappear when memories fade; it changes into something quieter, deeper, and harder to name.

The final revelation is devastating precisely because it’s restrained. There is no loud twist or emotional manipulation—only a silent confirmation of what the film has been patiently building all along. The pain doesn’t come from loss alone, but from persistence.

The film is also brutally honest about how memory and mercy are unevenly distributed. Some characters are allowed to forget in order to survive; others must remember everything. Not everyone receives the same kind of mercy, and the film never pretends otherwise.

In the end, this isn’t a movie designed to make you cry. It trusts the viewer’s emotional intelligence and confronts a difficult idea: some bonds are so strong that neither illness, time, nor forgetting can erase them completely.

It doesn’t explain grief.
It lets you live with it.

A Love Story Where Memory Is the Enemy

This film is a quiet emotional punch that sneaks up on you. It follows a young woman who forgets everything from the previous day each time she wakes up, which immediately brings to mind 50 First Dates (2004). But unlike that film’s gentle optimism, the male lead here feels colder, more guarded, and—honestly—often frustrating. His love is sincere, yet shaped by fear.

The actress delivers a tender, heartbreaking performance, balancing innocence with resilience. You feel her confusion and warmth even when her memories reset. The male actor, on the other hand, plays restraint painfully well; his character’s choices are rooted in love, but expressed in the harshest way. Knowing he has a heart condition makes his eventual death devastating, but asking his friend to erase her journal about him feels cruel. Why must love always be protected by erasure?

The line, “Scars don't disappear. But the pain doesn't last forever. If everyone is forgetting you little by little then I'll try to remember you little by little.” captures the film’s moral: love isn’t about being remembered forever, but choosing to remember, even briefly, with courage.

Loving Without Being Remembered

I think it’s definitely a film worth watching.

After finishing it, a sadness lingered inside me for a long time. At first, it seems like a classic high school love story, but as it progresses, you realize it’s something much deeper and far more fragile. The relationship between Kim Jae Won and Han Seo Yun isn’t just a romantic bond; it’s a love story walking the thin line between remembering and being forgotten.

Han Seo Yun forgetting the previous day every morning turns love into something incredibly delicate. When the memories you share with someone mean everything to you but, for them, feel as if they never existed it’s heartbreaking even to imagine. Despite this, what moved me the most was Kim Jae Won’s refusal to give up. His love isn’t expressed through grand declarations, but through small, quiet sacrifices. Being willing to meet her again every single day, to rebuild the same feelings over and over… It made me think that love is not just an emotion, but also a conscious choice.

Han Seo Yun’s fragility is portrayed very realistically. Her attempt to make sense of her life by keeping a diary, her effort to hold on to her own memories, feels both innocent and deeply tragic. While watching her, I constantly felt this: sometimes life takes away the most fundamental thing from a person their memories. And yet, being able to love despite that takes immense courage.

Kim Jae Won’s character development also becomes clear throughout the film. At first, he seems more passive, a young man being carried along by circumstances, but over time he transforms into someone who truly loves, takes responsibility, and matures emotionally. In his gaze, there was always this unspoken message: “Even if you don’t remember, I’m still here.” That feeling resonates strongly throughout the film.

The visual atmosphere is soft and calm. The pastel tones, long moments of silence, and understated use of music suit the story beautifully. The film doesn’t move quickly, but I think that slow pace is intentional; it allows you to fully absorb every emotion. In some scenes, there is almost no dialogue, yet the emotional intensity is conveyed purely through glances.

The final part prepares you gradually, yet it still weighs heavily on the heart. When the film ends, you don’t feel like you’ve just watched a love story; you find yourself reflecting on impermanence, the fear of loss, and the desire to be remembered. For me, this film was much more than a youthful romance. It was a quiet yet profound story that leaves behind a melancholic ache. It hurts while you’re watching it, but somehow that hurt feels meaningful.

Watch it at your own risk

I watched this amazing movie on 1 March 2026. The problem is that if I say even a little more, it may become a spoiler. So just go and watch the movie.

At the beginning, it feels like a normal cute high school romance. But as the concept of amnesia (memory loss) becomes deeper, the story turns very heartbreaking and tragic. It becomes a real emotional rollercoaster. The movie shows the importance of small moments in life, friendship, and memories.

By the time the movie reaches the end, it becomes very emotional. I was almost about to cry, so you can understand. Watch it at your own risk. But if you can handle it and finish the movie, you will keep a beautiful story in your memories.

I should also say that the movie is not completely logical. There are some flaws, but when the story reaches its peak, you will ignore them. For me, this movie is 8 out of 10.

Even If This Love Disappears From the World Tonight (Korean: 오늘 밤, 세계에서 이 사랑이 사라진다 해도) is a 2025 South Korean romantic drama film directed by Kim Hye-young, based on the Japanese novel of the same name.

Kim Hye-young’s direction successfully captures the ephemeral essence of first love through a color palette that feels like an eternal sunset. Even though we are already familiar with the premise of anterograde amnesia, this 2025 version injects a visual freshness that makes that "lump in your throat" feel brand new.

What truly elevates this adaptation is the dedication of its lead pair. Choo Young-woo and Shin Shi-ah convey a vulnerability that is palpable; they ensure that the weight of repetition and forgetting never feels monotonous, but rather deeply human. Their chemistry is the film’s engine, making every "first meeting" feel just as genuine as the last.

Ultimately, this movie is a devastating reminder that memory is a privilege, not a guarantee. It is poetic, cruel, and visually impeccable. Get your tissues ready.

Even if scars don't disappear, they don't last forever.

I don't think I have physically sobbed harder watching anything in my life more than this movie. And I put emphasis on anything. I don't think I've ever cried this hard. My chest hurts, my skin feels achy with how much I've cried. That's how devastating this movie was.

From the very beginning of the movie, it had a very homely and authentic vibe to it. It wasn't a very big, massive production, but it was just a simple story that had a little bit of depth to it, and that depth was so absolutely incredible, I don't even know how to go about it. I genuinely loved how simple the storyline was, yet it hit so hard. I have no idea how to explain, but honestly, one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. And even though I put the rewatch value as high, I don't know if I'll ever be able to watch this movie ever again.

One of the most beautiful part about this movie was the relationship dynamics between the three main characters. And you can argue with me if you say it's only a romantic story or a love story, because I will not joke around about Jimin. She is the most incredible character I have ever watched, because it's just her power of friendship and love is so beautiful to me. She would and will do anything for her best friend. From the very beginning, she was so protective of her friend. She loved her friend, and all she did was care for her. And at the end of the day, all she wanted was Se-yoon to be happy, and I don't even know how to describe how beautiful their bond is to me. Towards the end, we can also see Jimin wasn't just Seo-yoon's friend. Obviously, Seo-yoon mattered to Jimin more than anybody, but as the whole group integrates and they become like a whole nice wonderful friend group, you can see how much pain she is going through, because she lost one of her good friends as well. It's not just about Seo-yoon. She lost a really good friend, and she doesn't even have the option to grieve in front of her best friend. Because at the end of the day, if you look at the semantics, Seo-yoon's boyfriend, love of her life, died, and she doesn't know about it, and her best friend can't tell her about it. It is just utter pain, the way that this story has been written.

And on the same side, Jae-won, who's an amazing, amazing character, well-written, everything, he's such a green flag. I have so much to say about him, I just don't know how to put it into words. But his thought of, I want to make this girl happy every day, even though I might not be there, I want her to be happy still. And the concept is such a beautiful, beautiful storyline.

I loved how at the end, Jimin managed to tell Seo-Yoon about Jae-won and everything because she couldn't hide it anymore, not just because Se-Yoon was constantly wondering and thinking about Jae-won, but because she as a person was grieving and it hurt her. And I'm so happy that she told Seo-Yoon about everything because it was better for both of them that way.

This was perfect, really. I don't have any opinion on how to change this movie for the better because it was utterly perfect. The ending was one of the most devastating endings I've ever seen in my life. Like, I don't know what to say. The last 30 minutes of this movie, all I have done is sob. I haven't smiled not once. And every time I managed to calm down, the characters started crying. And then when I saw them crying, I continued crying. There was a scene where Jimin was erasing all the stuff that Seoyoon had made about Jaewon so that she wouldn't remember him. And it showed a sequence of all the moments the couple had together. But now the guy was not there, so it was just Seo-yoon. And that broke my heart because it looked like she was alone. And it was just a cinematic masterpiece. Those scenes where her happiest moments where she was with the love of her life were just her alone. And she wasn't sad because she remembered she was happy, but she just doesn't remember who she was with. Absolute 10 on 10 movie. I will probably never watch it again.

A very good and touching story, but not emotional enough to make me cry.

The fact that she loses all her memories every time she falls asleep is really interesting. The scene on the bus where she dozes off, wakes up, and doesn’t remember him at all is still very memorable.

Then there’s him learning about her illness and doing everything he can to make her happy. The moment that surprised me the most was when he suddenly dies. I really didn’t see it coming. I liked the story overall, but it happened so abruptly. In the moment you’re like “wow,” and right after you’re left thinking “why?”

I feel like his character and his heart condition weren’t given enough development. Ending the story so suddenly like that feels quite abrupt and probably won’t please everyone.

Even if This Love Disappears Tonight Review - ZyKuu

"Emotional memories are attached to the heart" - The story is about two students who agree to date based on three conditions. The plot is very deep as I found myself broken during one moment and empathizing with the characters throughout. With regards to the medical setbacks both main leads faced, I found it poignant with how both diagnoses was affecting their every day livelihoods. Han Seo-yoon is the female lead that is suffering from anterograde amnesia. Seo-yoon was required to be versatile, create sudden shifts in emotions and demeanor which she executed perfectly. Kim Jae-won is the male lead that is suffering from a hereditary heart-failure. Jae-won portrayed a timid student who stood up for what he believed in while trying to make the others around him happy despite his situation. Their acting was amazing, their romantic chemistry was cute, and I admired the way they interacted with one another given their health conditions. Choi Ji-min was the best friend to Seo-yoon. I found her acting to be good, but her friendship to be genuine. Ji-min was always looking out for Seo-yoon to the best of her ability and that was admirable as it takes immense dedication. The OST contains a solid set of tracks. Overall this piece of media will classify as a K-trauma and I find this film to be tragically beautiful!

Memories Vanish, Love's Ache Lingers: Soul-Deep Feels – 8/10

What If Love Disappears Tonight guts you with its exquisite K-drama tenderness, securing an 8/10 for unflinching emotional warfare. Han Seo-yun, a luminous high school girl cursed with anterograde amnesia—waking daily to a memory void—and Kim Jae-won, a stunning boy hollowed by hereditary heart failure, mark time toward inevitable end. Their innocent love ignites like a fragile flame, defying fate's cruel reset.

Han Seo-yun radiates defiant joy through wide-eyed rediscoveries that shatter into silent devastation—each "first" kiss a fresh wound, her positivity a heartbreaking beacon. Kim Jae-won embodies numb despair cracking into all-consuming passion; their raw, whispered confessions and trembling holds claw at your core, blending ecstasy with existential dread.

Pacing pulses like a failing heartbeat: taut loops of rediscovery spiral into harrowing peaks of loss and longing, no breath spared. Sunset vows, crumpled notes of "remember me," and a haunting OST eviscerate you. It probes love's immortality amid oblivion—minor contrivances can't dim its vise-like grip on regret, renewal, and goodbye. A weepy masterpiece that haunts your dreams.

A beautiful high school love story.

(Note: I have NOT watched the 2022 japanese version)

HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD:

Absolutely loved the film. The couple was super cute, the friendships were super cute, and the ending was sad yet beautiful. Acting was excellent from everyone and it was great to see Shin Si-a in a lead role, she's a really underrated actor, loved her in Resident Playbook!

Also, I REALLY thought I could hold it in this time, but no, in the last 15minutes the film managed to make me cry, and a lot!

One criticism I have, is that Jae-won's "heart disease" and his eventual death wasn't built as well as it should have been. It came a bit out of nowhere, even if I knew about it beforehand because of the description in kisskh. The Netflix description on the other hand says nothing about it which is... interesting. This didn't bother me too much and I loved the movie regardless, even though it clearly is a noticeable writing issue.

Really glad I watched this!
