A Curse Can Be Lifted—But What If He Forgets You?

Unlucky Bae is a cute campus romance with magic, a little sadness, and a lovely group of friends.

What touched me most was that Khofa had been made to believe he brought misfortune to others long before Lin accidentally cursed him. His uncle’s words had already shaped the way he saw himself. Watching him gradually regain his confidence, return to the things he had given up, and open up to other people was one of the pleasures of this drama.

Lin helps him move forward, but the closer they become, the heavier Lin’s guilt grows. He wants to lift the curse, yet doing so means being forgotten by someone who has become precious to him. That dilemma adds a bittersweet feeling to an otherwise playful story.

I was especially fond of Lin’s friends, Ohm and Jeannie. Funny, endearing, and loyal, they made the friendship scenes something to look forward to. I think their support was a big part of what kept Lin going.

This was a sweet, easy watch for me. I enjoyed spending time with these characters, especially when the romance and friendship brought out their warmer, livelier sides.

To be honest, I don't gave much to say about this drama. It was pretty cute and enjoyable but I know it's not a drama I will remember for life.

I loved both couple, even if I hated what Krit did to Rin.

Sometime it was boring sometime interesting. And I get why people say they don't kiss well, typical from GMMTV to ruin their couple.

I think I enjoy GMMTV drama, when I don't have expection for them. I didn't remember the pilot and I haven't watch the trailer. So I enjoy it. Sad coming from one of the biggest BL Group.

What happened?

This is a first for the ThamMac couple, so yes, I wasn't expecting much. But of course, I still wanted to see a good series.
The chemistry between ThamMac is there, especially with their fresh aura. Story-wise, since this is a university-set series, I was honestly expecting a cliché storyline, and I was kind of right, except for the magic-thingy involved. Other than that, I haven't really seen anything new.
During the first few episodes, I was so invested in seeing how Khobfah and Rin's relationship would progress, especially with their opposite personalities. What I loved about their dynamic was Khobfah's bad-boy introvert side paired with Rin, the famous extrovert. That's what got me hyped for their relationship!
However, my excitement kind of died down when Khobfah started developing feelings for Rin and his bad-boy image slowly disappeared, too. I was hoping to see more of that contrast between them because that's what made their dynamic interesting to me in the first place.
As for the kissing scenes, I understand that they might not be that perfect yet. It still fits Khobfah's character, though, since he's new to everything, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt there.
As the story progressed, I wished we could have seen more of the magic dynamics, especially since Rin was already tangled up in his witch side, even though it was fake. I just think exploring that aspect more could have given the story a unique selling point and made it stand out from other university-set series. It felt like there was potential there that wasn't fully explored.
Now, for the second couple, AunStamp. I don't know what was missing with this pairing because I loved them in Revamp. Is it the chemistry? Or is it just that I hated their characters in UB that much? I'm not the only one, right? 😭 Their characters didn't really have much development, and that's one of my biggest issues with them. Most villains I hate have a purpose behind their actions, even if I disagree with them. But with these two, it felt like I was just hating them without fully understanding the why behind their actions. I needed more depth and development to understand their motivations.
Production-wise, again, I wasn't expecting much, but at least give us a better bus ride scene! 😭🤣 The green screen was so noticeable throughout the entire series. And don't even get me started on the Battle of the Bands part. I'll just save my thoughts about that one in my head. LOL.

Honestly, My Unlucky Bae is a good drama, and I didn’t find it boring at all. The acting was also decent, and I had no major complaints about it. However, I feel like the final episode could have been more dramatic. I think it would have been better if the characters had realized on their own that the curse wasn’t real instead of having her mother tell them.

One thing that disappointed me was the lack of romantic moments between the main couple. Surprisingly, the second couple had more romantic scenes and gave me more butterflies than the main couple. The main couple actually had the best chemistry, but I feel like the drama didn’t make enough use of it. Sometimes, I even get the feeling that the two actors themselves aren’t comfortable with romantic scenes, especially when it comes to kissing and hugging. Their romantic moments don’t feel as natural or intimate as those of the second couple. It’s a shame because they have such good chemistry, but somehow, that chemistry doesn’t translate well into their romantic scenes.

Overall, I enjoyed the drama, and it definitely wasn’t boring, but I wish the writers had made better use of the main couple’s chemistry and given us more natural, romantic moments between them. That would have made the drama even better for me.

Main couple is cute

Unlucky Bae is a simple but cute university BL story. The main couple has great chemistry, and it’s genuinely enjoyable to watch them support each other as they gradually grow closer.

BUT, up until episode 7, I still have no idea why the writers thought the audience would enjoy watching a side couple made up of one of the main characters’ ex-boyfriend—who literally broke up with him on his birthday—and his supposed high school best friend.

I can’t stop thinking about how freaking obnoxious both of these characters are. They’re so unpleasant to watch, and instead of making me interested in their relationship, every scene with them just makes me wonder why I’m supposed to care about these two getting together.

I am still waiting to find out what good can they do to the story by the end of it.

Khobfa is a green forest and deserved better

I started watching because the whole curse/luck concept was genuinely fun and had me curious about where the story would go. That part got lost very early in show, and then relationship writing is where I started losing interest.

The biggest problem for me is the side couple. They get so much importance despite their conflict feeling extremely forced. They’re written as ridiculously hostile toward Rin and Khobfa, but the story never gives them a convincing reason to be THIS angry. Eventually their forced hatred started irritating me so much that I didn’t even want to see them on screen. There have been plenty of hostile or unlikeable characters in shows that audiences still enjoy watching because there’s something solid behind their behavior like selfishness, jealousy, revenge, whatever; and they actually add something to the story. Here, it just feels like the production did these characters so dirty by making their hostility the source of conflict without giving it enough substance.

Rin and Khobfa also needed more time to actually develop. Rin didn’t seem romantically interested in Khobfa until episode 5. Before that, he mostly treated him as a friend and someone he accidentally cursed, so his attachment felt more like guilt and responsibility than love. I actually think that could’ve made for an interesting slow-burn if the show had explored it properly.
Instead, Rin rejects Khobfa and then, basically in the SAME episode, suddenly decides they should date 😭 Like bro, can you process ONE feeling before making another life decision? The switch feels so abrupt that the romance doesn’t feel earned, and Rin ends up coming across as pretty self-centered to me.

I still like the curse premise and think there’s a cute story here, but the forced drama really dragged it down for me.

The chemistry is sooooo good

So far so cutee!! Tham and Mac are so cute! Their chemistry is top-notch—I love it sooo much! The story is also tight and to the point—no unnecessary fluff—but everything is clear, and the acting is pretty good, too!! I’m really looking forward to seeing how it ends. It’s truly worth watching and waiting for!

This is as good as you allow it to be

If you can withstand the script in the first episodes, you can achieve anything.
Overall, the series does a good job at portraying the characters and where they are coming from. Luckily, it is a matter of focus and receptivity. So as long as the genuine-ness of the lead couple gets you going, you are in for a sweet time.

Luckily, this is my second BL series, so I don't have an industry standard for comparison. I think the mains give more than expected as the series progresses.

Heartwarming show but...

Ok , so I really like the Idea of this storyline. I think it genuinely has such good potential. You have Rin, who comes from a magic lineage, and his boyfriend (Krit), who eventually breaks up with him. Then, trying to get revenge, Rin tries to curse him. Doing this, he accidentally cures the wrong person, Khobfa. OK, soooo love this, but the fact that he's from a magic lineage lowkey gets mulled over and isn't emphasized enough at all for me... I feel like they mention it just enough so you don't forget, but it doesn't feel important past a certain point in the show that Rin had even cursed Khobfa. (Granted, I have not finished yet.) Another thing is Krit and Mochi, omfg don't get me started. To be honest, I couldn't even tell the whole dynamic of them just because I skipped over their parts that much. I could nooot get over what Krit did to Rin. It's honestly unforgivable. The couple just felt evil to me, and I was confused why they were getting so much screen time. I love the actors tho none of that relates back to how well they did their jobs. I firmly believe if an actor can actually make you mad at their character, then they are doing a good job lol. I do like the rivalry between Mochi and Rin. I think it's so interesting they used to be best friends. I also noticed that when all the boys were promising not to date Rin and Krit were looking at each other, Mochi was looking at Krit, so I knew something was about to go down there. To be honest, I didn’t/dont understand this internet war they were trying to push in the beginning that kinda faded off? Rin didn't even really entertain the idea in the beginning and never really tried to go against Mochi, which felt a little pointless. Other than that, I love the show so far. I love the chemistry between Rin and Khobfa. I like that Khobfa is this shy person and kinda ominous and then is the one who really falls for Rin first and starts acting cute and soft around Rin. and although the speech storyline flet random, I think it really added to his character and how people think hes this mean guy and it violent, but hes really just an anxious person who doesnt want to hurt people with his luck. Overall, I really do like this show a lot; I think it’s cute and isn't very stressful to watch if you know what I mean. Its very Fuuny and quirky. I just think it could’ve spent a little more time in the writers' room developing and curating the plot and fixing some of the plot holes.

How I feel about this series

I started watching this series because of its fantasy element—specifically the bad luck curse premise. The beginning was really good and I actually enjoyed it, but after a few episodes, it lost its charm.
The main couple had great chemistry and cute acting that gave off a nice college romance vibe, which was definitely a strong point. However, the major issue was the second lead couple, Krit and Mochi. Given that Krit had cheated on her, why did they get so much screen time? At certain points, it felt like they were the actual main leads.
The core story was good, and if the creators had stayed focused on that direction and highlighted the main couple more, the ending could have been much better. There was really no need to give the second couple so much screen time.
Overall, the series fell short for me because of this. That said, if we're strictly talking about the main leads, I really liked their chemistry, love vibe, and college romance dynamics.
