Short Drama, Big Brain Moves… and One Very Complicated Love Life ?
Glory Back is one of those mini dramas that quietly walks in, does its job properly, and then leaves you wondering why full-length dramas can’t get their act together like this. For a short format, the production is surprisingly solid. Costumes look good, sets don’t feel cheap, and the pacing actually respects your time. No dragging, no filler, no “let’s stare at each other for 5 minutes while sad music plays.” It moves, and it moves with purpose.
Acting is where this one really earns its keep. The female lead carries the drama with sharp expressions and that calm, calculating energy you expect in a palace revenge setup. She’s not loud, not overdone, just controlled and smart. The kind that makes you lean in a bit. Even the supporting cast hold their ground, which is rare in minis where half the cast usually looks like they just showed up for snacks.
Now the honest bit. The romance… yeah, that’s where things get messy. The emperor situation is exactly what you think it is. One man, multiple women, shared affection, and somehow we are supposed to believe this is deep love. Didn’t quite land. You can see what they were trying to do, but it felt more political than emotional. A few viewers felt the same, struggling to really root for that pairing .
That said, the drama doesn’t collapse because of it. The intrigue, schemes, and constant tension keep things interesting enough that you don’t sit there waiting for romance to save it.
What this drama does right is simple. It takes a full-length palace story, trims the nonsense, keeps the spice, and delivers it fast. No overthinking, no overpromising.
Final take. Not perfect, but for a mini drama, this is dangerously close to showing the big dramas how it should be done. Short, sharp, well-acted, and just messy enough to keep you hooked.

This one is a masterpiece.
This drama is sooo good 😭 even though it’s a short drama, not a single episode felt boring. The storyline is actually mind-blowing and the plot twists just keep coming.Usually I watch dramas in 2x speed or skip some parts, but not this one lol. I watched everything from start to finish because every scene actually has a purpose.
The main leads are sooo good and their chemistry?? insane. I really need them in a modern drama together next because they would absolutely eat.
So sad this drama is so underrated because barely anyone talks about it, but it’s literally chef’s kiss 🤌✨
Also love the female lead so much, she’s playful, clever, and super fun to watch. The sibling relationship was really cute too.
And yes, male lead is handsome af ☝🏻
Also, appreciation to all the cast because everyone did such an amazing job. Every character felt important and played their role so well, which made the whole drama even more enjoyable to watch 👏

It is one of the few female-centric mini cdramas and it has no romance.
If you love the revenge and suspense genres, then this one is for you. The costumes, sets, aesthetic, everything is so big-budget mainstream drama coded. Here, 2ML is obsessed with FL, but in a good way. He is more useful and honest than the ML. You will hate the ML for his behavior. He has 7 wives, and he spends time with all of them. I can’t understand, despite enjoying time with so many wives, how he can still say that he only loves FL and is sincere with her! In modern language, he is a playboy lol. His wives are smarter than he is. Additionally, every side character is annoying as hell. Even the maids are evil. FL teaches them lessons every time in a very satisfying way.
And I loved the FL for being stubborn and having a clear mind and goal. She played very well in the first 28 episodes. But I think she lost her momentum in the last 4 episodes. She became emotionally weaker than before. I didn't want that last kiss scene(which was also their 1st kiss scene). I just wanted her to be free from the palace. Also, it doesn't need a second season. If they want to make another season, then they should make it focusing on their love story in the modern world.

I came for the chaos and stayed for the schemes but the emotional payoff just wasn’t giving
I went into this expecting a typical palace revenge story, but what I got was actually a very plot-driven, tightly written harem drama, and I enjoyed it more than I expected. The strongest part of this drama is really the harem politics. It’s messy, ruthless, and honestly very entertaining. The story takes time to show different consorts across the hierarchy, and each one brings a different kind of danger. Some are outright cruel, some are calculated, and some are just unhinged 😭 but it works because it makes the palace feel alive and constantly shifting.
Feng Qing carries this drama for me. She’s intelligent, strategic, and most importantly, she moves on her own terms. She doesn’t wait to be saved, and she doesn’t rely on the emperor emotionally or politically. Everything she does feels intentional, and that makes her very satisfying to watch.
The writing is also stronger than I expected. The schemes are thought out, and the revenge plot is quite tight.
But where it falls short for me is the emotional execution, especially the romance.
There was so much potential in her relationship with the emperor—their past was built on love, distrust, and power imbalance—but the way they reconnect in the present timeline feels underdeveloped. I never fully bought into their reconciliation. It lacked the emotional weight and buildup that it needed.
I also wish we saw more vulnerability from the emperor. Given everything that happened, there should have been more grief, more conflict, more visible regret. Instead, that emotional layer felt a bit too restrained, which made the romance less impactful than it could have been.
Some side storylines didn’t really add much (the adopted brother arc didn’t work for me), and there are a few moments where the plot leans slightly convenient, but overall the structure remains solid.
At the end of the day, this is a strong, engaging drama carried by its plot and female lead, but it stops short of being truly memorable because it doesn’t fully deliver on the emotional side.
Still, I had a good time watching it—and for this genre, that already says a lot.
8/10 - A solid and enjoyable watch with strong writing in its political and strategic elements, but lacking the emotional depth needed to elevate it further.

Peak
*spoilers ahead*This drama shocked me. I started it because I was bored but it ended up catching my attention. I love the female lead she was such a icon but the king lowkey pmo. He had multiple women but still had deep love for the empress after she died??? Idk he was weird but I love the side character stories, they were absolute banging.
I def didn't like the whole story about the step-brother being inlove with his sis like whatttttt no thank you. Despite that I still think this drama is in my top 5. I was really impressed.

ACCIDENTLY STARTED A DRAMA AND HOOKED FOR EIGHT HOURS
I was just watching vertical short dramas on Youtube and then it automatically played, I was about to exit but the phasing was so fast and all the characters were all equally beautiful and you can actually see who is who, and it was so good that I couldnt even look at the comments or search for the drama incase i might see spoilers that is how good it is, if yall thinking about watching it just watch but not for the romance for the harem conflicts for me it wasnt even romance but still so good since its harem people are questioning how ML loves FL more than others but we need to know he is emperor having only one wife is the most riskiest move by emperor so i kinda see how he is loving the FL, since it was harem drama and there was really really handsome 2nd ML I was worried he might be the ML for the first half of the drama and it was really worrying me but i was just scared to search for it ahahaha thank god 2nd ML is 2nd MLHERE COMES SPOILER
I legit thought her sister was the evil one just like other dramas and how much she spoils her, I thought she is the evil one for the most of the time thank she wasnt evil like i thought she was, girl is just naive and deeply devoted to her sister. I love the sisterly bond between Gu Wan and Wenxin both of them were so sweet on their own and seeing how Gu Wan crying and complaining like a child to FL was so cute, me and 2nd ML should be ashamed for questioning Gu Wan and I was also worried Gu Wan might like Gu Xuan and that is why she resented her sister or something like that but that wasnt the case which i was really happy lmao and Gu Xuan's favortism is so severe like the way he hates one sister and obsessed with another was kind of disgusting i really hate incest even though he is adopted they are still sibling she still treated him like a real sibling, was really worried wether or not he is the ML but thank goodness FL is still rational and didnt fall for her own brother and always putting line between them somehow i really loved the siblinghood between them more than the romance

A glorious short drama
This short drama truly plays to its strengths. The rebirth aspect is used to shorten the time it takes to set up the villains and allies within the harem. Short dramas usually feel rushed to me, not so Glory Back. It truly feels like the screen writers and director condensed a harem drama to its most essential scenes. Glory Back benefits from focusing on the revenge story instead of more sprawling harem and state intrigue, though the hints are there. It is a well-played personal story of the FL finding out who harmed her and who is making a mess of the harem in the process. The male leads are both devoted to the female lead and have their strengths. It is fun to not immediately dislike one over the other. It becomes clear, though, that only one can match the female lead's wit and personality. The progression of the relationships felt very organic.
The visuals are stunning and the production makes good decisions to use the budget they have. They make the harem look like a sprawling place.
Often I feel the last episodes of dramas (both short and standard) can be a real drop in quality, not so here. The very last episode was a bit too wholesome and progressive for the overall story, but that's just how Chinese Drama operate at this point (for good endings).
For a web series this one is simply so good and I am happy a second season has been teased. I would be so interested in this team doing a standard series harem drama.
