The Same High School BL Trope With One Seat Change and I Still Fall for It Every Time
Japan, you have done it again. Give me the same high school BL trope for the hundredth time and somehow I will still be completely hooked. There is just something about Japanese BLs that makes them so awkward, wholesome, and strangely addictive in the best possible way.As the title says, After Moving Seats, the Boy Behind Me Has a Crush on Me begins with a simple classroom seat change that unexpectedly turns Mayama's quiet school life upside down. Mayama is a loner with no close friends, but he is such a kind, gentle, and adorable character that it is impossible not to like him. After finding a handwritten confession from the popular and handsome Asamiya, he naturally assumes it has to be a mistake. Instead of dragging out the misunderstanding, they meet face to face almost immediately, and Asamiya honestly tells him that the confession was always meant for him.
I really liked how the drama skipped the usual long misunderstanding and got straight to the point. Asamiya knows exactly who he likes and is completely confident about his feelings, which made the confession feel refreshing instead of frustrating.
The first few episodes was incredibly cute, heartwarming, and moved at a nice pace without feeling like a slow burn. The music also matched the soft and cozy atmosphere perfectly.
And can we talk about episode 6? Probably my favourite episode yet. Their confession beside the lake was so beautiful and heartfelt, and then that kiss made the whole moment even more special. It wasn’t a dead fish kiss at all. They are high school students and this was probably their first kiss, so I thought it was perfect for them. It felt innocent, nervous, tender and completely genuine.
“What kind of like? It’s the one where I want to hold your hand, to touch you, to hug you.”
That confession completely melted my heart. There was something so pure about the way he described his feelings. He didn’t need some huge dramatic speech. He simply wanted to be close to the person he loved, to hold his hand, touch him and hug him. Then having their feelings finally come together with that beautiful kiss beside the lake made the entire scene unforgettable.
This is a great series but my only small criticism is that I really wish this was a university BL instead of a high school BL. The actors are 28 and 26, playing 17 and 18 year old students, which is more than 10 years younger than their actual ages.
The characters themselves definitely act and dress like high school students, so it’s really just the actors’ faces and mature appearance that make them look older. You can tell they’re not 17 or 18, and it’s noticeable enough that I had to mention it. I think they would have suited university students much better.
Even though the storyline is one we have seen countless times in Japanese BLs, it feels fresh because of its warm, comforting vibe and lovable characters. I already know this is going to become one of my comfort shows over the next few weeks, and I cannot wait to see how Mayama and Asamiya's relationship develops.

Love the chemistry and relatability!
Wow I love the chemistry between both the leads and the beautiful vibe of this series! ✨ First of all, the casting of this series is excellent, and the music is really nice too!But the biggest thing for me is how relatable it felt. The way Mayama feels about himself, like he is just out of place and can't be loved, and how he has such low self-esteem in front of other people... I feel like this will be very relatable to people who struggle with the same things in real life.
Especially that feeling of thinking we are inferior to others and that everyone else is better than us, or feeling like we aren't good enough or worthy of someone. But in reality, a lot of the time, it's just our own imagination making us feel that way. 🥹

CUTEST DRAMA EVER? (WOULD RECOMMEND‼️)
Asamiya and Mayama are PERFECT for each other and I think it’s so adorable how gentle Asamiya is with Mayama. Gentle yet Possessive, almost reminds me of Watarai from School Trip! It’s absolutely worth watching if you liked School Trip, even if you haven’t seen it, go watch it! It’s absolutely beautiful and also realistic, the chemistry is definitely there and I‘M SAT. Even the side characters are PERFECT! Hayate Iijima from Super☆Dragon as Tsunekawata Hikaru, and Ken Hiramoto from DXTEEN as Sakaki Tōma is a perfect match. The characters’ personalities actually match the actors‘ personalities as someone that stans both groups of the side characters. I do think though that Tsunekawata and Sakaki have a lot of chemistry together and although it’s not likely that they’ll get together throughout the episodes THE CHEMISTRY IS DEFINITELY THERE! Both supporting casts have enough screentime for my liking. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that THE EPISODES ARE TOO SHORT!! I’m rooting for this Drama and especially for my two Oshis, Hayate Iijima and Ken Hiramoto🥹🙌Was this review helpful to you?

A MASTERPIECE ??
MAYAMA IS SUCH A CUTIE PIE I WANNA PUT HIM IN MY POCKET🥹🥹🙏🙏, ALSO ASAMIYA IS SO HOT LIKE OMG!? They’re like genuinely made for eachother, and their chemistry is CRAZY AF‼️ This drama reminds me of School Trip but a softer version🥹Im really excited for the upcoming episodes and count the days and hours ‘til another episode is released😋😋If I’m honest I'm rooting for the two side characters Sakaki and Tsunekawata aswell🫣🫣 They have so much potential and I hope they end up together aswell🙏🙏And also NPC being the OST makes so much sense, since it matches the concept of the drama really well‼️This is definitely worth watching and I’d 100% Recommend😌Was this review helpful to you?
First impression
It's a sweet and light-hearted story. Classic school JBL.It's nice to see Konishi Eito play in a BL again. For countries other than Thailand, it's pretty rare to see the same actors continuously film in BLs, but lately it's been happening more often, and i'm happy to see a change.
You can watch it on Viki: https://www.viki.com/tv/41662c-after-moving-seats-the-boy-behind-me-has-a-crush-on-me

Things I liked:
1. Friends. It's always nice to see good, supportive friends.
2. Haru's brother. He seems like a really sweet and supportive older brother.
Things I disliked:
1. Cliches.

So cute
I really enjoyed this BL. It was very cute and the storyline was realistic. The casting was absolutely nailed! Both Main Caster’s were perfectly cast. It did not feel like I was watching actors “act”, if you catch my drift. I would love to see these two cast in something else together!! One thing I would like to say, not necessarily having to do with this particular BL, is the script constantly having irritating “miscommunications”, it drives bonkers 😂😂😂Was this review helpful to you?
Title May Be Super Long, But Story is Worth Watching
I won’t lie, the long title kinda had me like, “Umm, what is this?” at first, but the reluctance didn’t last long, I watched this yesterday and would have regretted it if I didn’t.Such a good story with the exact type of ML I always like. As a lover of healthy obsession romance trope, this particular plot is my cup of tea.
The ML is already giving green-as-shrek flag and I love to see it. I also really love how he is attracted to the MC’s kindness (well, his face and body too haha) but that’s not the point. What ML finds the most attractive about MC is his kindness. And oh, MC sure is KINDDDD!
So far, the story has been great, but I hope we don’t get any dramatic “you’re too good for me, I’m not good for you” push and pull, pull and push that would throw off the momentum. I hope we don’t.
You must watch this show if you like high school Japanese BL and healthy obsessive handsome MLs. You must watch it.
(I’ll edit as I watch)
