Kim Sae Ron's posthumous film 'Everyday, We' confirmed to premiere in 2026
Choi Woo Shik will reportedly be the main character for the upcoming webtoon based K-drama Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid.
On July 25, media outlet OSEN revealed that Choi Woo Shik has been chosen to lead the upcoming historical romance K-drama Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid. According to them, Choi Woo Shik is positively considering the role offered to him.
Set against the backdrop of the anti-Japanese independence movement during the Japanese colonial era, Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid will tell the romance story of a man who has given his all for his country and the woman who bravely puts her own life on the line to keep him safe. The K-drama will base its story from the webtoon of the same name by Na Yoon Hee.
The upcoming K-drama will be the joint work of director Hur Jin Ho (Love in the Big City) and writer Lee Ha Neol (The Last Princess and Assassination).
Choi Woo Shik has been offered the role of Kang Ui Hyeon. He is a man from a wealthy background who, while studying in Japan, became an independence activist after witnessing the sufferings of Koreans. His dedication led to him being shot during a mission involving a bomb for the movement, after which he was found unconscious on a Gunsan beach and rescued by a woman named Su A.
The K-drama's production team is reportedly preparing casting to begin filming soon.
There are no confirmation yet on the airing date and broadcast channel of Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid.

Early this year, Choi Woo Shik greeted viewers with the hit K-drama Melo Movie with Park Bo Young, Lee Jun Young, Jeon So Nee, Kim Jae Wook, and Cha Woo Min.
Before the year ends, Choi Woo Shik will return to romantic comedy K-drama through the upcoming series Would You Marry Me? He will pair up with Jung So Min and work with other casts Shin Seul Ki, Bae Na Ra, Seo Bum June, and Heo Ji Na.
Next year, Choi Woo Shik is also set to make his official debut to Disney+ through the upcoming K-drama The Waking directed by Kim Tae Gon (Project Silence).
