Actor Ha Jung Woo revealed the reason he chose Lobby as his third directorial work.
Lobby tells the story of Chang Wook (Ha Jung Woo), a startup CEO who knows nothing but research, as he steps into the world of lobbyist golf for the first time in an attempt to secure a 4-trillion-won government project.
Director Ha Jung Woo, who made his directorial debut with Fasten Your Seatbelt (2013) and also directed Chronicle of a Blood Merchant (2015), takes the helm again after a decade.
Drawing inspiration from the nature of golf as a sport where various business dealings take place on the course, he fuses cinematic imagination with the world of lobbyist golf. Ha Jung Woo stated, "People generally think of lobbying as something that happens in enclosed spaces, but I thought that a vast golf course is actually a very secretive space."
He explained the inspiration behind the film, saying, "It seemed like the four people playing golf each came with their own agenda, and I thought it would be really fun to weave those characters in that situation and turn it into a film."
He further elaborated on the film's creative intent, stating, "Life doesn't always go as planned. Life is all about coincidences. I believe that within those coincidences, one can find cinematic fun."
Lobby is set to be released on April 2.
