'Pursuit of Jade' actor Deng Kai says he 'really likes reading negative comments'
Netflix's new series, As You Stood By, has been confirmed to release on November 7.
As You Stood By tells the story of Eun Su (Jeon So Nee) and Hui Su (Lee You Mi), who decide to kill Jin Pyo, Hui Su's abusive husband, to escape a hellish life.
The teaser gives a glimpse of Eun Su and Hui Su trapped within their own traumas, rewinding as if to materialize a hell that endlessly repeats itself. The teaser begins with Eun Su saying, "There are so many things I've avoided in my life. When I was little, it was all I'd ever known. As my dad got older, I thought He'd calm down and stop the abuse. When I realized he was still hurting her, I ignored it." Fleeting glimpses of her past — watching her mother suffer from her father's violence while she only stood by — suggest that she has yet to overcome this even in the present.
In contrast, Hui Su, who lives a married life filled with abuse, unhappy, joyless days, and despair, says, "I tried confronting him. Tried running away. But I always end up right back here." When Hui Su gets extremely desperate and says, "I can't take another day of this," Eun Su stops her, saying, "Let's kill him. Your husband."
On the other hand is Jin Pyo (Jang Seung Jo), Hui Su's husband, who gives her expensive gifts all while abusing his wife, and So Baek (Lee Moo Saeng), who watches the two women.
As You Stood By will premiere on November 7, only on Netflix.
