Kim Do Hoon offered role in 'The Second Signal' director's new film
Lim Yoon A shares how she transformed into Chef Yeon Ji Young in Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.
Bon Appetit, Your Majesty follows French chef Yeon Ji Young (Lim Yoon A), who time-slips into the Joseon Dynasty, where she struggles to please the palate of the tyrannical King Lee Heon (Lee Chae Min).
Lim Yoon A shared her thoughts: "I've always wanted to work with director Jang Tae Yoo, and I'm really happy to be teaming up [with him] for the first time through Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.
She also explained her reason for choosing the project: "I was drawn to the theme of cooking, and Yeon Ji Young's profession as a chef, so I wanted to take on the challenge."
She also chose "charisma, wisdom, and confidence" as the character's greatest charms, adding, "I was very impressed by Yeon Ji Young's wisdom, confidence, and charismatic demeanor — always stating her opinions clearly and walking her own path rather than being led by others."
With shining confidence and charisma, Yeon Ji Young is a character whose cooking skills are so exceptional that she even wins a French cooking competition. To embody the role of a chef, Lim Yoon A put in efforts to get the hang of the art. "Over the course of about three months, I met with real chefs to learn everything in detail, from handling cooking utensils to the cooking process to prepare for the character."
"I newly learned the technique of flambé [a French cooking method in which alcohol is added to a dish or sauce and then quickly burned off over high heat], and I think it was the one I showcased the most. Thanks to that, I gained more confidence when cooking, and while playing Yeon Ji Young, I thought, 'I can't believe I can do something like this.' It was the coolest performance I've ever done."
She also explained that to bring to life the story of a character who lives in the modern era but time-slips to the past, she added meticulous details to both styling and speech. "To clearly show the difference between modern and past times, I paid special attention to the accessories worn in modern times, such as sunglasses, scarves, and earrings. I also tried to maintain a confident, lively, and modern tone in my speech and acting."

Concluding with a tip to enjoy Bon Appetit, Your Majesty even more, she said, "If you carefully follow the fine visual beauty of the cooking scenes and the emotions between the characters, you’ll be able to enjoy it even more deeply. Please look forward to Bon Appetit, Your Majesty, which premieres on 23rd."
Bon Appetit, Your Majesty is coming August 23. The K-drama will be streaming on Netflix.
