Ko Sang Hui

Fictional Character

“You think I was born a middle-aged housewife? Starting today, I’m putting myself first!”

A true stay-at-home mom with a second-year high school son and a husband who works as a teacher. She and her husband were once a lovey-dovey couple, but who knew marriage could leave her feeling even lonelier than being single? They got married because they loved each other, so why should she have to play games and scheme just to keep his attention? And with her own husband, no less?

She met her husband Cheon Su through a matchmaking setup, fell madly in love with him, and got married just 100 days later. After having their son Hoon, she has devoted herself to taking care of her husband and child and considers herself something of a pro at being a wife and mother. These days, housewives supposedly divide themselves into factions based on their children’s grades, their parents’ educational backgrounds, their professions, their wealth, and even the size of their apartments. But Sang Hee is an ordinary, chatty housewife who knows nothing about such distinctions; she only knows green onions, scallions, and onions. To earn money for her son’s private tutoring, she helps out with washing dishes and serving customers at Jun U’s café.

She wears her emotions completely on her sleeve, openly expressing every joy and sorrow, every emotional high and low, through both her words and actions. She is about as far from being coy or pretentious as a woman can get. Her charmingly clueless side is that she doesn’t realize that a little feminine coyness can be just the thing to keep a husband interested.

She lives just around the corner from Sang Shik and drops by his house every day as if it were her own. And that’s not all; she regularly mooches off her civil-servant brother, always looking for opportunities to take advantage of the perks that come with having a government worker in the family.
