I might feel pressured to watch it and struggle to get into it. Haha.

Valid. Do whatever works best for you ^^ It's why I'm always a bit hesitant to recommend those really long dramas, so I usually go with minis

Day 2 - Favorite/Guilty Pleasures

Dramas that weren't too great, but I really enjoyed them xD Mostly verticals, haha

Prince Consort Can't Wait to Divorce
In the 1990s... Na Ge Nan Ren You Cha You Jiao
Please Love Me
Female Li Kui and Her Beautiful Husband
Fake Love

⤷  Favorite Female Leads!

Song Yan Fei as Su Ji Shi (Exploration Method of Love)
A rugged facade concealing a tender core, a golden heart paired with sharp humor.⤞ I adore a girl who truly appreciates a delicious fried chicken wing, haha!⤞ Fearlessly embraces a  challenge, her smile that follows is everything.
Dai Lu Wa as Fu Ling (Moonlight Mystique)
⤞ You're drawn to her sharp edges, yet despite your efforts to keep distance, you find yourself attracted to her, and she's fully aware of it.⤞ Emotionally detached, but still manages to have the cutest bond with this little creature!⤞ Her abilities are truly beautiful. A stunning blend of fire and flowers, it complements her personality and backstory  perfectly.
Bae Suzy as Ki Ga Yeong (Genie, Make a Wish)
⤞ I do admire an unpredictable woman that will pumble you, but makes you laugh with her eerie dry sense of humor, lol.⤞ One of my greatest weaknesses is a woman who knows how to fix motor vehicles; I find that incredibly attractive.⤞ She's so extra, but I eat it up every time.

Been watching Love on the Turquoise Land and it definitely fits the Cold FLx Warm ML trope. FL is also the kickass trained hunter who destroys the demon-ish fiends while ML is a corporate biggie but softie. His charm is working on her (I'm on ep 11) but very slowly..... like glacial pace. The main antagonist is also a woman who is a very interesting and gray character, like leaning towards the darker spectrum of black with some redeeming traits few and far in between.

In and of itself the story is interesting, however a couple of things make it a difficult watch for me. The whole setting is in a place which doesn't see a lot of sunlight so it feels dark and gloomy most of the time. For a group of specially trained people who for generations have been holding the line preventing evil monsters from taking over the world, they seem very unprepared and lost. I question their decisions most of the time and they seem to sit around and talk a lot more than participate in any action (only one measly fight so far!)

Will this be the first contemporary CDrama I will actually manage to finish? I don't know yet!!

Turquoise Land

I had intended to begin this before the year wraps up, but I must admit, your description has me feeling a bit apprehensive. I'm all for discussing strategies, but when a drama prolongs conversations with minimal plot development, that's when I start to lose interest. I don't mind dark and gloomy settings; however, if the storyline fails to contribute significantly to that atmosphere, it simply becomes depressing and tedious to watch. That said, the trailer appeared promising when I checked it out, so perhaps there's still a glimmer of hope. I'm eager to hear your thoughts once the series concludes.

Oh no, in general the plot moves forward pretty quickly. Its only this group of hunters I find vexing because they they seem all talk and very little action, and they fail to anticipate a LOT and seem to be chasing their tail a lot of the time. Like the most basic stuff. But who knows, it may be a strategy they are using which will be explained in later episodes.......

I'd be interested to hear your take on it!! For now I might put the drama on hold.

Are you planning to participate in the "12 Days of Role Reversal 2025 Challenge" with us? I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts on which titles stood out as your favorites this year. Currently, it seems like it's just Arclei and me, but I hope more members will join us later this month.

⤷  Favorite Male Leads!

Lee Jun Hyuk as Yoo Eun Ho (Love Scout)
⤞ He is patient and understanding, never pushy, and provides just the right amount of encouragement.
THE ULTIMATE GREEN FLAG

⤞ His love language is Acts of Service, reflecting a humble partner whose selflessness alleviates your stress. He delights in motivating you to be strong and successful, ready to do anything to make you smile.⤞  Penguin Daddy!
The way this man loves Yoo Byeol unconditionally truly tugs at my heartstrings. His dedication and pride in being her father shine through in every interaction.

Honourable Mention:

Murakami Raul Maito as Takamori Taiga aka "Kaoru" (Learning to Love)
⤞ The way I squeal when he flirts! I can't believe Manami lasted so long; I would have been gone from day one, just another customer throwing money to support his dreams at the host club.⤞ Yes, he faces challenges due to dyslexia, yet he aims to improve himself. Even though he deals with insecurities and feels overwhelmed by social pressures, he has a strong resolve to prove his worth.⤞ His emotions are frequently hidden behind lighthearted teasing or a shift in topic, but when he eventually shares his true feelings, they are  incredibly raw. When he shows his genuine self, it brings me to tears; I want to embrace him and offer him a cookie.

yallll. i have been completely detached from movies and series altogetherr.
can yall suggest me a RR drama filled with angst. like something newers from 2023 i guess. and like non historical. plsssssssssssssssssssss

can yall suggest me a RR drama filled with angst. l

I haven't completed many historical titles, but I  recently wrapped up  Qingchuan's Veil of Vengeance , and it has secured a spot as one of my top RR series among all the ones I've had the pleasure of watching. It truly earns the tags of - Strong FL and Master FL / Disciple ML. The male protagonist is undoubtedly one of the most ernest and  loyal subjects I've seen. He is absolutely adorable!

I'm uncertain about what you might define as angst, but the series does delve into some heavy themes that really got my heart pounding and stirred a desire for justice. If that's what you're after, then this series is perfect for you. Although it may not be a historical drama, it does include political elements that you might find appealing. Plus, being a Wuxia, it features some impressive fight sequences. Each episode runs for less than 30 minutes, and the total runtime is around nine hours, making it a quick watch.

Hi hi, Ree, long time no see indeed ^^ Hope you've been well!

Angst in RR dramas is honestly really hard to come by. Most of it is slapstick comedy T_T There are some historicals that come to mind, but contemporary? Closest I can think of is Parallel World? Maybe Love on the Turquoise Land? I haven't watched the latter, but it seems a bit more somber and angsty

Day 3 - Favorite FLs

I was gonna do these every other day, but I got busy, haha, so it's a bit all over the place, lol. In no particular order save for #1

My FL section was absolutely dominated by cdrama ladies.

Cheng Manyi from A Talented Girl Grows Up

Of course, my #1 had to be this absolute gentlewoman. She has some hiccups in the earlier episodes, but after she falls in love with her man, it's full-on chivalry on her part.

What I loved about her is the fact that she is so open and delighted at the prospect of taking charge and doesn't throw her weight around, having to pretend. She's a badass, and she knows it; he knows it, and those are the only ones that matter.
Xiao Mingzhao from Prince Consort Can't Wait to Divorce

At long last, a FL in a matriarchy drama that actually behaves like a woman born and raised in a matriarchy would. This FL was a breath of FRESH air.  She's so wipped on her husband, it's crazy. I love how unapologetic she is about it, too. She doesn't shy away from public displays of affection, but also a lot of private displays of affection ;)
Lu Yuan from An Ancient Love Song

A woman who knows how to yearn is a woman I stan. Absolute crazy levels of down-badism. She waited a lifetime just to see him a handful of times, y'aaaalllllll- A powerful empress that's fearless, bold, protective, and still loving. Nothing will stand in her way.

Lin Wanyue  from Scent of New Dawn

Vengeful and ruthless yet gentle and kind to her man? The perfect FL DOES exist. I really liked how she didn't need ML, but having him helped. She wasn't a damsel in distress, and she didn't weaponize her femininity to get her revenge. Instead, she played dirty, baring her fangs until she could avenge both herself and her man.

Li Rong from The Princess Royal

In the sea of aloof badasses and silly quirky FLs, she stands out with complexities and flaws past what female protagonists are usually permitted. She's strong but still has weaknesses that prevent her from being her best self, and she spends the entire drama working on them.  She's also a political powerhouse and a protective badass, which always ranks high for me. The way she's protective of her man? GODDD
Wu Zhen  from Moonlit Reunion

If confident glamour were a person, it would be her. She was really giving me rich aunt vibes in the best way. Flamboyant princess with an ill reputation by day and a demon lord by night, she dominates every scene she's in, drawing all attention to her with confidence. I loved how she wasn't embarrassed of her reputation, but rather embraced it and used it to her advantage. She really embraced her true self and shined because of it.

Honourable Mentions:

  • Lee Gang-Hyun from Flex X Cop - Enemies to lovers ML, but as a woman. Absolutely serving masculinity. She was incredibly badass and flawed, like only men are allowed to be. And just like your run-of-the-mill ML, she warms up to her reluctant partner and runs to save him every time he calls...
  • Zhan Qiluo from Na Ge Nan Ren You Cha You Jiao - Badass bar owner. I loved how effortlessly dom and protective she was of ML even when he was a stranger. Just such a vibe~
  • Deng Chanyu from Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force - WOOOOO bOOOYYY, the only female general this year that served as she should've! God, what a delight. So badass, so masculine. 10/10
  • Yun Sae-Bom from Happiness - Badass, strong af, protective, and a little crazy? Yes yes yes!!
  • Su Ai from In the 1990s... - Probably the most smitten hen-pecked FL I've ever seen. Loved seeing her dote on her family and chasing her shy mommy hubby relentlessly.
