does anyone else have BL FOMO?

Maybe a little I'm easily influenced by others' opinions. If I see a few people mentioning a BL they like, I'll probably try it out of curiosity and see if I like it. And most of the time, I find that I do. This year I've already watched 14 Thai BL last year I've watched 15 we have more and more content but I also watch more since I'm here.

That's nice. As for myself, I often find that the enthusiasm of others rubs off on me and helps me to enjoy something maybe a little bit more than if I were watching in isolation. Also, I try to learn who has similar tastes and preferences, so if they recommend something, I know I'll almost certainly like it, too.

@Dora: Yes, I definitely also suffer from BL FOMO syndrome!

How did everyone get into bl and their first drama if they remember

For me, i was getting tired of straight romance and I got recommended tharntype and that opened so many doors. I might've rated it too high as I looked back and there was so many flaws with it

on a different subject, does anyone else have BL FOMO? I’m sure you don’t if you’re picky

i think im both , picky but i have fomo because i check almost every bl series  i always think to give bl shows a try, i think what if i dont check a bl series then it turns out that i might like it, so i check the first eps then i keep shows that i liked in my list and drop the ones that i didnt enjoy , so i end up having a lot of shows in my dropped and not interested lists😅 few straight and gl series are added but only if the synopsis look interesting to me

(vertical shows are an exception because i mostly avoid checking them)

my PTW list have about 200 titles but only about 30 shows aired, all others are either still on the plans to air or cancelled which remind me to check if they are going to air or not, i do feel overwhelmed tho as my CW list is huge rn but because i didnt check a lot of them yet to see if im going to continue watching or not XD

at that time, i was watching Youtube videos then randomly i saw Love by chance fanmade video in my recommendation, so i watched the video then looked for the series, i started to check bl series then, tharntype might have been the second bl series that i watched 😊

great question! i'm really curious to see everyone's answers

for years i really avoided anything that centered romance, i thought i just didn't like the genre that much. but about a couple years i decided to start exploring more queer media bc i had never really gone out of my way for it. i watched a bunch of great movies and at some point i think i saw a tiktok or something talking about kinnporsche. i watched it and was totally obsessed. so much so that i watched it twice in a row 😅 then watched dead friend forever right after bc it was also by be on cloud (also a good show but not on kinnporsche level for me). but at that time i was still finishing up my degree and had some other hobbies so i didn't really watch more bl's until the beginning of last year. but ever since then i've been watching them regularly 😊

I had a friend who got me into kdramas, and i signed up for Viki. For some reason Viki recommended Semantic Error so I watched that In 2023. I loved it so I looked for other Korean BLs. I watched about 30. I’m in a romance book group and met someone there who also liked kdramas and had also recently discovered BLs. She convinced me to try BLs from other countries. So I watched Love in the Air. After that I was totally hooked. Then My Beautiful Man won me over to Japanese BLs. My friend from the book group started following actors and fan groups online and before I knew it we were keeping tabs on upcoming shows. At first we just watched anything and everything on Viki, but then I signed up for IQIYI to watch the Love in the Air special episode. Then later my friend told me her favorite BL so far was at 25:00 in Akasaka and it was only on Gaga. And the rabbit hole just got bigger. She also became my current best friend, btw, and we text each other nonstop about our progress and thoughts on every single show. She also got me into K-pop. Every night she sends me about 50 photos of K-pop and BL people we like. i had to transfer all my photos to Google because I ran out of room on my iPad. But I do have a stellar photo collection. my largest collection is PondPhuwin at over 900 photos. KengNamping, JoongDunk, and TeeteePor are next at over 400 each.

together we started trying to find the best rated and most iconic BLs, and to watch all the old ones as well as the new ones. I still haven’t caught up on all the old Thai and Taiwanese BLs but I’m working on it. My problem now, as I said above, is I want to watch everything.

meanwhile I got my parents and my best friend from high school hooked on kdramas, so they’re always recommending stuff. i only listen occasionally.

i started learning thai through a language app. I also constantly look up cultural and historical information related to shows I watch. I am currently reading A Brief History of Korea. I read mostly romance books and mysteries, but also a lot of Wikipedia.

so this is how I spend my days. But I’m glad to have somethings I love and to be part of the BL fandom.

and in case you hadn’t noticed I can’t really give short answers to anything. lol.

Same for example I've watched DMD friendship because you mentionned it a few times and were excited about it. And it was a really good decision.

It's been a long time I'm not sure but I think it was in 2014 with Love sick but I don't remember how I came across it maybe with an edit on youtube. Thank you for asking this question now I'm listening to the Ost Shake  and this one that I was obsessed at that time.

Oh I remember something at first in 2014 I've watched Hormones which is a high school romance drama pretty messy with multiple couples. There were 2 guys who were somewhere between friendship and a couple, and I was cheering for them to be together. That's when I thought "Oh maybe I should try watching a BL with a main couple", since this one only had a few moments. And that's how I discovered Love sick. I really like this Ost from Hormones.

TMI : Before going to the BL world I've started watching asian shows when I was 12 mostly Japanese and Korean my first one was Japanese. And I had to wait too long for subs in my native language so I've watched them with eng subs and that really helped me in english class.

It's nice switching from straight and BL it's more diverse.

I really enjoyed it at that time I even search for the novel.

It's a really good one to fall into the BL world.

It seems like a lot of us have watched a Thai BL first.

Semantic Error

It was really good one of my favorite Korean BL.

This is so good to have a best friend with the same interest as you it makes everything more fun.

I hope to have that many one day

my best friend from high school hooked on kdramas

Same I got my sisters and my best friends to watch kdramas for now they didn't try other countries and BL but maybe one day.

I don't remember.

I do remember it was a KBL. And I probably watched it and many others on YT. I didn't know about Viki or any movie sites except for Netflix until much later.

I wish I had irl friends to talk about BLs and watch together sometimes. I never mention BLs to family or friends I already have cuz it wouldn't go over well. That's why chatting with everyone here feels so special. Like I found my tribe. We're all so different in every way possible too! Who knew?!? 🫶🏼

However, not long ago I told one of my sisters about straight Asian dramas and she's loving them. She lives far away but it's nice to have that as a topic of convos, even if our tastes in dramas are very different.

One fun thing - This sister and I have traveled many times, so now we like to get out my laptop and pick a drama on Viki to watch at night in the hotel room! It's not hard to agree on a drama she wants cuz she falls asleep before the first ep is finished and I switch to smth else, lol.

ETA:  I do remember feeling really happy and satisfied after watching my first few BLs and other dramas. They were so romantic in a sensitive, warm way and the language (as a Westerner) felt very poetic and expressive. It didn't take long for me to completely stop western shows and movies in favor of Asian dramas.

Has anyone here read the recently released MM Romance book, "Hunt the Villain" by Rina Kent, and wants to discuss it? I have some thoughts, and would like to know if I am alone in thinking said thoughts. DM me please.

My first BL was Addicted. I found it randomly on youtube way back and ended up watching the whole show. From what I remember I didn´t really understand the story back then :§ It was also the first chinese drama I ever watched.

i finally finished to my shore last night ٩>ᴗ<)و

the show had reallyyyy been dragging for me in the middle there but it surprised me by picking up in the end. overall i think there were some spots where the writing/characterization could have been a bit better but my enjoyment of the series really cut through any of the flaws. i really do have a soft spot for toxic bl antics lol

and i do think there was a good amount of depth to the story too. the cinematography and color palette especially all felt really intentional and was part of what made me enjoy it so much. i put it on my list to rewatch at some point bc i think there's a lot of details i'll be able to pick up on more on a second watch

in the end i gave it an 8.5, much higher than i had expected to land on. not a perfect show but a really really fun one :))

glad to know you enjoyed it =D

Boom was the reason I was so exited about Akina in the first place T-T

Honestly it´s kinda starting to seem like there is alot going on behind the scenes and none of it good. I never understand why they never explain why an actor leaves a role. It just makes everything seem like something really bad is happening....And not by Booms doing.....

i just hope that boom's career and path will be smooth sailing, after all those things with top form/smart

 Indie Art Girl:
Like lately I've been eyeing To My Shore. Only cuz when it first came out I was excited and  attached to watching it, but then as the story was revealed I didn't think it was for me.  But the good rating combined with everyone's comments make me want to at least check it out.

to my shore is the blackest flag of all the black flags so be warned!

yeah, he´s such a good actor it honestly surprises me that he isn´t a household name yet. he really deserves it imo. especially after everything
