How did everyone get into bl and their first drama if they remember

For me, i was getting tired of straight romance and I got recommended tharntype and that opened so many doors. I might've rated it too high as I looked back and there was so many flaws with it

for me, i love bromances. i dont watch straight series for romance as a main ingredient but just as a side ingredient, like if it's a law or action series with a dose of romance (or even without the romance dose is fine too). but i love bromances, like lee dong wook-gong yoo type of bromance. where they bicker and make each other's life a bit miserable but always ready to help each other.

i remember i was searching for bromance tags here in mdl and somehow saw Last Twilight, got interested, watched it as it airs, and that's the start of it.

and in case you hadn’t noticed I can’t really give short answers to anything. lol.

but they are enlightening =D

It seems like a lot of us have watched a Thai BL first.

am i right in assuming that thais were the first ones to do bls in asia?

 newbifantrack:

yeah, he´s such a good actor it honestly surprises me that he isn´t a household name yet. he really deserves it imo. especially after everything

i definitely agree. i really wish we can see him acting again

yeah hopefully we will :)

@jazme

yes live-action BLs started in Thailand, although Japan invented BL manga and made live action gay content previously, although much of it was really porn. Love Sick launched the pattern of BLs about high school or college students.

this 17 minute BBC video is not really an overview of the history, but it is an interesting discussion about BLs and GLs as an industry and the trends they are following. Also I was amazed a BBC podcast was focusing on this topic.

If you are interested in the Thai language and how some meaning simply can’t be conveyed through subtitles, this guy is great. He explains the nuances of words used in important BL scenes and how the Thai meaning of those words impacts the scene.

hey, super thanks for this! i saw one of his vids about the pronoun "I" and i didn't know that even with "i", it's gender-specific in thai. it makes me wonder though, they are open abt gender/lgbt but their pronounces are gender-specific while here in the philippines, pronouns are (mostly, maybe at least 80%) gender-neutral

It's a really good one to fall into the BL world.

It seems like a lot of us have watched a Thai BL first.

yeah i watched thai bl's almost exclusively at first. it wasn't really until more recently that i started branching out more. so far i watched the most bl titles from japan this year. but i have a lot of thai bls still on my watchlist so i'll be curious to see where my stats are by the end of the year ^-^

I wish I had irl friends to talk about BLs and watch together sometimes. I never mention BLs to family or friends I already have cuz it wouldn't go over well. That's why chatting with everyone here feels so special. Like I found my tribe. We're all so different in every way possible too! Who knew?!? 🫶🏼

i feel the same way. it'd be so nice to have someone irl to talk with about bl's but my friends don't really have interests like that. but you're right i think that makes it so nice to have a place like this to come and chat. i love that we have such a diverse group here, it makes it really fun 😊

i just started getting videos from him on my feed recently, i've been really enjoying them! language is so fascinating to me :)

 jazme:

to my shore is the blackest flag of all the black flags so be warned!

Oh! That much? Hmmm...

 Indie Art Girl:

Oh! That much? Hmmm...

have you watched my stand in or meet you at the blossom? to my shore is blacker than that, so much that i have to pause watching or i might strangle him. or someone nearby in place of him hahaha

Oh wait, what?

Haha, I liked both dramas. Maybe I'm confused about the meaning of black flag.  🤔

if you like both then you can give to my shore a try. first few episodes will decide, but if it gets too much, then you can jump on the later episodes when it's payback time lol

just finished head 2 head. surf-java is so good that i didn't recognize them at first. their roles in muteluv and here is very different and they delivered both perfectly! i wish to see them in more series

To My Shore - oh well

I got as far as EP 3 and stopped before the "meet up" Fan was organizing on the phone while in the car with Shu Lang. The more Fan messed with Shu Lang and his sugar boo the more anxious I became. 😵‍💫

I liked Shu Lang a lot, but Fan...not.  His slick back greaser style hair and exhaling smoke through his nose wasn't doing a thang for me, lol.

Def could watch a cute BL with Shu Lang and his cutie pie Zhen Zhen though. 😍

I couldn't respond to that question but I'm glad dora did I learned a new thing thanks to both of you.

Interesting so I started with an important one.

I will look at your list I want to watch more BL from japan. I'm curious about how my stats are going to look like too. Since I started watching asian dramas Korea as always been number 1 but this year I'm watching a lot from Thailand. It's also the first year that I'm watching more gay romance than straight ones and since I want to stay here it will probably stay like this.

You're right it's something precious to me. Now instead of telling my friends "you know, in the BL I'm watching..." It's more like "you know, someone on my BL forum said..."
