There's nothing we can do about males joining tbh

 Tina:
That being said, I don't think you're a "misandrist" for saying you don't want males watching lesbian media. It's a given they shouldn't watch them since it's not for them

 Tina:
As weird as male GL fans are

If YOU could keep YOUR blatant misandry to yourself, I'd definitely appreciate it. Why can't we just watch, discuss and enjoy GL dramas without the insults? Why belittle people you disasgree with? If you're a member of the LGBTQI community (or any minority), then you probably have experienced intolerance and mistreatment by others, and I suspect you didn't much enjoy it. Yet here you are doing the exact same thing. You really need to do better.

 kardasx:
I am straight aroace male and I Iike all romances... especially romcoms. I watched many straight romances and liked them, but GL is different... softer... special.

oh man... how do I start here.

I mean, it's fine if you watch all romances as an aromantic asexual. But how are you "straight" at the same time? I don't get it. Since you're aromantic, you don't want any romance. Since you're asexual, you don't want any sex. Is what I'm getting.

GL shouldn't be soft because real life lesbian relationships are not soft. This softness they display is to placate the male viewers like yourself. I have also not seen straighter looking actresses than what is shown in most GLs... so two very straight looking women kiss on camera and that's GL? please.

The day they're gonna make GLs with women I might actually consider dating (find attractive), is the day GL will have graduated to "actual lesbian content". Until then, most GLs are just straight male pandering.

Not to mention the quality of some of them is lacking. I'm glad now we're getting a horror GL and a prison setting GL because those are at least different looking plots. But even so, I don't know if they're going to be good (and I'm too scared of horror to watch that one, although I'll try), especially since they're from Thailand, which is known to go for quantity instead of quality.

That being said, I'm aware GL is different from lesbian media. It doesn't speak so much for LGB rights, and instead shows love stories divorced from the cultural and political context of the countries in question.

Even so, I do hope that Japan and dare I say, the other countries available on MDL, can release good GL content. Made for women by women. The less relatable to men, the better. Which means close to no softness. I mean, idk how to explain this, but lesbian relationships are not soft. /shrugs

First of all, there's no such thing as misandry. Should I just say all men are trash? Because I can do that.

You need to take a chill pill or get out. I haven't even interacted with you? I purposely don't interact with the males in here unless you're making a fuss like this time.

GL spaces should be female only. That is all.

Misandry (noun):  dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against men.

@Tina (mobile wont let me quote)

Queer Peers is a queer woman and nonbinary only discord server that I really like. It’s not GL focused, but there are channels and forum channels devoted to tv shows and movies, and there are some GL fans in there - some of which overlap with our server. Great people.

i do agree, GL shouldnt be targeted towards men - and for the most part the asian ones (and newer western ones) arent. There are ones being directed and written by men though, so that is a related topic of debate. But a lot of the highly praised and anticipated are by women and queer women.

But i still hold the same standard for you as well. We do not call other members weird or anything else no matter what their identity is or where they hail from. Please take such sentiments to yall’s DMs if yall must

It's not real, get over it. Once women oppress men to the same degree for millennia that men oppress women, then we're talking.

 AthenaTheStorierX:
queer woman and nonbinary

I'd rather pass. I don't do well in queer and "nonbinary" spaces lol

Thanks, but I'm done here. No need to take it to DMs haha

 kristen711:

hi! I"d like to join!

Welcome to the club! Im sorry about the drama that just occurred.

What are some of your favorite GLs so far?

 kardasx:

To turn the page, can you recommend something from recent dramas, that is easy to watch and fluffy? Something like Queendom, Somewhere Somehow, Love Design(not finished yet)  - I really liked all these, Queendom the most. I plan to watch Whale Store Xoxo next. But idk what else to watch. I don't want shows with heavy angst or sad scenes. My eyes are dry now and I need something to wet them and for that I need happy and fluffy scenes and happy endings.

Im picky about what i call fluffy overall lol.

Fluffy recs:

75 Degrees Celsius

An Office Thing

Mellow:

She Makes My Heart Flutter

Tsukutabe

Otherwise Low Angst:

Deep Night Side Story (looking forward to their full drama!)

Ill keep pondering and come back with more ^-^

Okay bye then, I hope you have a nice day.

I think you meant to say 'GL shouldn't be targeted towards men', and I agree with that (but I do still want them to watch it because I think it's a good vehicle for hijacking their brains into empathizing with queer people and giving us rights lol). Looking at comment sections and at the demographics that show up at fanmeetings (based on videos, not irl experience going there), it does seem that the overwhelming majority of the audience is made up of women, so I think they succeeded at targeting a female audience so far :)

Would be interesting to see if it differs significantly per drama, and if that would line up with my expectations or not (expectation = higher percentage of men for shows like Denied Love, lower for shows like 23.5). But I wouldn't know how to get at that information.

BL is definitely mainly targeted towards women, and I think that's okay, and I think the difference between BL being targeted to women or GL to men is well-explained by the video essays I linked earlier.

Oops. Yea that was a typo. Fixed and thank you for pointing it out

Well ultimately the target stuff can go back to genre. Women are the main audience of romances. Even when men watch and enjoy romance, many dont go sharing that info. But im so glad to see the wave change - both with BL and GL. Stories are for everyone, regardless of target. Thats how we learn about each other and get exposure that we might otherwise not get. ^-^

You know, i started Us a while back and did enjoy the episode, but for some reason am having a hard time picking it back up to continue? Maybe it’s more of a binge-watch show, bc i dont feel all that motivated to continue, despite that first episode being a good one

anyone else?

Honestly I was actually bored by the first episode of Us until that twist where Pam actually had malicious ulterior motives.

Us really grew on me over time. A lot of dramatic things happen in it, but the thing that stuck with me was how realistically and kindly the characters kept handling all of it. Us subverted a lot of drama tropes in very mellow ways that I didn't expect and I guess that's why it hit me in the feels so hard.

But if you don't want to watch it then don't haha, you only have so much time in a day.

Well im intrigued by the characters. Dokrak. Oat. Even Nene (tho i wanna knock her upside the head atm). And i do think i see where it’s going and think that’ll be good to see. Not to mention, Dokrak and Pam are both so mature. Flawed and making mistakes, but still pretty emotionally mature.
