GL Drama Lovers Club

Sorry to interrupt the drama and be a little off topic, but is anyone watching Player?? I swear it's one of my favs rn! I had actually dropped it when the first ep came out, but I gave it another chance when more eps came out and now I am obsessed!! I really love Pun and Ploy's relationship and dynamics. I've seen a few people find Pun to be annoying, but I feel like she's annoyingly cute. Like you can't hate her. She's like this little cute bunny😂

I love how bold and fearless she is. I'm pretty up to date w the drama so I think you're gonna love it!! I feel like their relationship had a lot of other pairings beat😂

I'm so glad Player has 12 eps. I'm so tired of good GLs having 8 eps! That should be illegal!! I'm watching My Safe Zone right now too and I'm trying to figure out how they're gonna resolve everything within 8 eps without rushing it

True true. My Safe Zone I'm not sure about yet. There's definitely things that I really like, but I also feel it doesn't yet stand out enough. That one off-hand comment about the transfemme character popping birth control pills like they're candy was appreciated though. Despite their many trans characters, I've never seen any mainstream Thai BL or GL talk about medical transition in any way, so this was welcome and new, and I hope she gets to be more of a fleshed out character than transfemme characters in Thai shows usually are :)

Ah yes. us is a good show but I personally wasn't super into it either. Like thematically, I really enjoy a lot of what happened but overall, it's too mellow for me. (but the director Fon, her work is just like that, it's very consistent if anything)

Well ultimately the target stuff can go back to genre. Women are the main audience of romances. Even when men watch and enjoy romance, many dont go sharing that info. But im so glad to see the wave change - both with BL and GL. Stories are for everyone, regardless of target. Thats how we learn about each other and get exposure that we might otherwise not get. ^-^

I agree that while we may not always understand who likes what and why, stories are for everyone and should be a vehicle to help us understand each other better.

i found watching the videos you and Ryn shared earlier helped me understand a lot about BLs and what I should support and not support about them. I plan to look for more similar content c about GLs as well. We all need to think critically about what we consume, not just who watches it and why.

our culture is complex and full of all kinds of prejudice. Stories are both our escape and a way to make sense of what we encounter or dream about. Rather than focus on which viewers make us comfortable or uncomfortable, why not focus on which stories are insightful and/or fun and why.

when I think that way I learn a lot about myself and the world, while still having fun talking about content.

I hope you dont think im attacking you Chiharu. You are welcome here as well! And im sure you are not the only one in this club who shares that opinion. But I will defend the guys in this club too. Just as Ive defended against other strikes and criticisms of other kinds - even if im not aware of anyone in the club who fits the description.

Have you ever watched any of the low budget web drama GLs? In terms of quality, they are quite amateur, but if you're looking for fluff and cuteness, they have a LOT.

Yes, I know JPC - saw almost all of their work (24 hour love is my favorite), H'our channel and CHAM. LLL of Her&Hers - but not others on that channel. And I also saw Love of Secret already, it was nice... as well as Yes or No.

I won't comment other posts... just write this: All depends on one's point of view. Some people see GL as something real with a lot of heavy stuff and obstacles that need to be overcome... even though real life stories can be fluffy too (depends where people live), some see it as fairy tales (idealized fiction). For me GL = simply Girl's Love - two women sharing a bond, which is stronger than friendship and they even don't have to kiss for it to be love. For me GL is not about identifying with main leads, but about enjoying the show... as well as other shows. It is just a genre even if it can mean a lot more for someone else. I also don't watch murder stories because I would like to identify with the killer. ;) I didn't watch Koisenu Futari to identify with aroaces, I watched it because it was fun and I enjoyed it. But I understand others can see it differently. 

And I don't want GL to be targeted to men too. I want to enjoy it in natural way... as well as I don't want jdramas to be targeted to westerners, I want to enjoy them in the same way as japanere people  do.
