Just asking for some recommendations of darker dramas that have come out in the past couple years. I like kdramas the most and I’m not the biggest fan of cdramas, and I tend to find recent jdramas boring like they’re usually more slice of life which I’m not a big fan of, but I’m open to recommendations of those. If anyone has recommendations I’d love to hear them thanks ☺️

I've admittedly not watched a lot of the dramas that are considered to be 'dark' because I think they're usually kinda cringe. At least based on those that I did watch, which I obviously wouldn't recommend. Not sure if you meant that kinda dark or just dark/heavier dramas in general, I would still consider all o these reccs to be pretty dark and heavy.

From some other countries in case you're curious to check them out ^^

  • The Embers (2025, cdrama) - Really solid crime mystery thriller. Very dark, heavy, and well-made.
  • Shogun (2024, jdrama) - Dark and gritty historical political drama. Very good
  • Ripe Town (2023, cdrama) - Another dark and gritty historical drama but investigation focused.
  • Bad Guys (2022, thaidrama) - Remake of the kdrama (didn't watch). Dark, gritty, and interesting.
  • Kill My Sins (2025, cdrama) - Historical revenge mystery drama. A bit more idol-esque than the others.

I've not personally seen but I've heard a lot of great things about The Longest Day in Chang'an and Last Samurai Standing, too.

I recommend Nine Puzzles (kdrama)! I think it came out this year :D

  • The Resurrected (2025 - Taiwan) Amazingly dark crime/thriller, heavy, superb acting.
  • Last Samurai Standing (2025 - Japan) Mindblowingly gorgeous historical action/thriller, not boring.
  • Doubt (2024 - South Korea) Suspensful perfectly dark, superb cinematography and acting.
  • Bloodhounds (2023 - South Korea) Lots of action and drama, superior knife action.
  • Mercy for None (2025 - South Korea) Violence at every turn, revenge, breathtaking choreography.
  • Death's Game (2023 - South Korea)  Dramatic thriller, best cameos of all k-dramaland.
  • The Revenant (2023 - South Korea) Supernatural thriller, chilling, best Kim Tae Ri ever.
  • Bargain (2022 - South Korea) Underrated drama, fabulous thriller, darkest humour.

PS : I love and recommend a lot of the recs above, and I'm taking notes for the rest.
