Modern C-dramas dumps

Welcome to the dumps of modern C-dramas (and low-key movies too)! Although I don't watch a lot of modern c-dramas, I do have some stuff on my list that I found interesting or that was recommended a lot. I usually analyze a drama according to its addictiveness or the plot, as well as the acting.  Feel free to use the comments I've left as a guide; some might even contain spoilers. Please view at your own risk. Those without any comments are because I forgot the storyline.

Note: My comments/reviews are usually biased; I would rate it according to my liking. You might not find stuff I wrote reasonable or rational because it's mostly emotionally based.

I finished it all in one go. Another time-loop drama, and this one is super good! Bai Jingting in another time-loop drama makes me realise that this really is his genre. The plot was so good; it got me so hooked with the suspense but could be better with some more effort. I feel like it's a bit cliché; I could guess the plot right away. The mixing and switching between Cantonese and Mandarin was quite confusing; it could be improved. Overall, I pulled an all-nighter and finished it all; I can say that it was worth my time.

  • Hidden Love

    3. Hidden Love

    Chinese Drama - 2023, 25 episodes

    10

    COMPLETED

I would do anything to watch it again for the first time. It's so good, super good! It's like watching every character growing up. We see the development of everyone in this drama; no one was left out, and it wrapped up so well. There is no toxicity, just pure innocent love. I fell in love with both the ML and FL; they really went out of their way to protect their love. I was never a fan of high school love stories, as I thought they would be too immature, but I guess I have to change my perspective after watching this. Above all, Sangyan and Sangzhi's sibling bond is just beyond description; the love they bear for each other is just too great. Moreover, Sangyan and Jiaxu's friendship is beyond just best friends; they're each other's family. This drama is just perfect as a whole; I had a good laugh and cry, but istg every tear I shed was a happy tear. It's so rare that a drama could do this to me. I cried out of awe from the main leads' love for each other; the amount of trust and effort that they both put in to make each other happy is just beyond words. This whole drama is all about love, whether it's parental love, siblings, friends, or lovers. After finishing this drama, I can fully say that THIS IS A MASTERPIECE INDEED!

  • The First Frost

    4. The First Frost

    Chinese Drama - 2025, 32 episodes

    9.5

    COMPLETED

You might have seen this everywhere; what you didn't know is that it really is as good as what people have been talking about. What made me rolling and giggling was how perfect Sangyan is; I'm always crying in awe every time he does stuff for Yifan. This is literally the 'he fell first and fell harder' kinda vibe. Sangyan's love for Yifan really is unparalleled; he made me wanna date someone right now lol. I only started watching it because I finished Hidden Love and didn't want to miss Sangyan's story, but it has turned out to be better than what I thought it would be. What this drama & Hidden Love has taught me is that family is the root of everything. It's the support from family that shapes us into who we are today. Oh, I really wanna mention this: the main lead chemistry is just beyond words; it's so good that I want to see them act together again. The OST sends me away; it's just too good. No wonder this is recommended a lot. It really is a must-try; many people like it, even I do.

  • Love Is Sweet

    5. Love Is Sweet

    Chinese Drama - 2020, 36 episodes

    9.0

    COMPLETED

I watched this without any expectations, but it turned out a lot better than what I thought. I'm usually not a fan of modern Chinese romantic dramas, but this drama has changed my perspective on them. I love that the plot is easy to follow, no stress, no misunderstandings, just pure romance and humor. I laughed a lot watching this. Bai Lu and Yunxi slayed the roles; they really made me believe that they're couples. The way they acted was so natural; I loved it a lot. Oh, and I think my most favorite part was when they showed the couples' lives after marriage or after years together; the depiction was so accurate and so funny to watch. If you're looking for something light to just enjoy the show and go with the flow, this drama is the perfect one.

  • Sweet Dreams

    6. Sweet Dreams

    Chinese Drama - 2018, 49 episodes

    6.0

    COMPLETED

It would be a lie if I said I didn't like it at all, but it just wasn't my type. I watched this because I loved Dilraba and Deng Lun. I kind of enjoyed it, but not much. I watched this years ago and can't remember much of the plot. However, I read the synopsis and got reminded of some of the plot that still lingers in my mind. Despite the great plot, I feel like the episodes are too long. Nevertheless, you can have a try because I saw many people loved this.

  • Reset

    7. Reset

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 15 episodes

    10

    COMPLETED

I will absolutely rewatch this soon. This was such a masterpiece! This drama really took time-loop drama standards to another level! I love it a lot; there are no words on earth that could describe how much I love this drama. I watched this since I wasn't into modern Chinese drama, and you can say this was the first ever thing I watched in modern Chinese drama, and I liked it. It wasn't the romance part but the investigation and mysterious parts that got me hooked. I would definitely recommend this to whoever loves the time-loop genre.

  • Futmalls.com

    8. Futmalls.com

    Taiwanese Drama - 2020, 8 episodes

    9.0

    COMPLETED

I've always loved mysterious dramas, and this one was a short one that I could watch during my break. I love that every episode tells different stories and also teaches us a lesson. The thrill and the mystery part were made so well I could enjoy it without getting bored. I didn't skip even a second and was eager to know what's going to happen next. Some episodes I could already guess what happened, but still it didn't make the plot less entertaining. If you need something mysterious and short, try this one.

  • Hello Ghost!

    9. Hello Ghost!

    Taiwanese Movie - 2023

    8.5

    COMPLETED

I'd say this is a heartfelt movie, although it appears to be funny at first. The plot twist was truly surprising, and I cried as much while watching it as I laughed. It's the story of a man who's desperate to die but couldn't because of some help from ghosts. At first, I thought it was just another ghost movie, but once I started watching it, it was more than that. Each single ghost has their own backstory, and I think it serves as a metaphor as well. A man seeking death encounters the deceased; this serves as a reminder that life should not be squandered in such a manner. Life is too precious to be wasted over certain concerns. The deceased yearned to live so intensely, yet they were unable to do so.

  • Lighter & Princess

    10. Lighter & Princess

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 36 episodes

    9.0

    COMPLETED

One sentence: GO WATCH IT, PLS! It's so good; there were no boring episodes. The main lead's chemistry is insane. They really are lighter and princess, their love story is beautifully toxic. It is wrapped up so well without any holes. I can't describe how much I love this drama. Life is full of ups and downs; people deal with problems differently, but Zhu Yun's love will always bring her towards Li Xun. Her undying love moved me; it's so beautiful. Chen Feiyu as Li Xun is just too perfect; he portrayed his character so well. Idc whoever calls him a nepo baby, this man can act and is so good at it. Jing Yi is such a great actress; it's rare to find someone who could act without caring if they'd look good. THEY CAN REALLY ACT! Huhu TT I'll probably rewatch this later sometime in life. This drama will always hold a special place in my heart. Again, go watch it! You won't regret even a second watching this drama.

  • Everyone Loves Me

    11. Everyone Loves Me

    Chinese Drama - 2024, 24 episodes

    8.5

    COMPLETED

A stress-free drama that I've been looking for. There is no real rivalry in this drama; everything is so peaceful. Everyone trusts each other a lot. The friendships are so pure; I love it. This is my first time watching Linyi's drama, and ffs, he looks so unreal! If I can't focus on the plot, it's always because I was too busy admiring him. I can say that he's the perfect actor for Gu Xun's character. No heartbreak, no annoying misunderstandings, just pure peaceful time, and let the plot flow the way it flows. The OST is so good as well; I love it a lot. If you're looking for something cute and stress-free, you can try this drama. It's 24 episodes, but they are the 24 episodes that will be worth your time.

  • When I Fly Towards You

    12. When I Fly Towards You

    Chinese Drama - 2023, 24 episodes

    9.0

    COMPLETED

It really is a youth drama. I really love the relationship dynamics in this drama. Their friendship, their relationship, their family relationship – it was portrayed so well. The only downside I could think of was that they could have dressed up more maturely when they grew up. Everyone's dressing style remained the same throughout the whole drama; it wasn't convincing enough for the 10-year timeline. It probably is one healing drama, stress-free and just enjoying the show. It gives me nostalgic vibes; it's like myself when I was 16, having my first love, my first crush, hanging out with friends. Those are my cherished memories. I feel like I can relate to this drama, as I still keep in touch with my high school best friends, and I don't really make new friends in college. This is absolutely time-worthy.

  • A Love So Beautiful

    13. A Love So Beautiful

    Chinese Drama - 2017, 23 episodes

    7.0

    COMPLETED

I think this drama is a bit overrated, or maybe it's because I'm watching it in 2025. The romance genre of this drama wasn't portrayed so well; idk if it's because of the director or the scriptwriter. The elements that carried the whole movie were the actors' skill and the plot. This was probably the first 'having a crush' drama of that period. I'm in no place to judge this since I'm watching this 8 years after it was released. I'd just say that it's good but didn't live up to my expectations.

  • Deep Affection Eyes

    14. Deep Affection Eyes

    Chinese Drama - 2025, 26 episodes

    9.5

    COMPLETED

THIS IS SO UNDERRATED! I jumped into this without any expectations, but it has exceeded my expectations. The plot is well written, and one spoiler is that it isn't a slow burn; I love that. The drama portrayed life after marriage so accurately; I love that part the most. If there's one thing I learnt from this, it is that a relationship would always require communication. At first, I thought it was just a normal spicy romantic drama, but it appeared to be more than that. It's not just about love, but it's about life in general and how people choose to deal with their shitty lives. I love the saying that "The world isn't cruel to anyone; it's actually cruel to everyone." I've never heard anything this true; everyone is dealing with something in their life. You can't just say the world doesn't do you justice; it's how you deal with it. It's all about the choice you choose when something happens. I love this drama a lot, and I hope a lot of people would give it a try; it really is so underrated.

Another Wattpad vibe, but this drama really is good. I didn't expect anything at all except for the 9-star review on Viki. I love the trope of this drama, the enemies-to-lovers vibe, the episodes are short, and the plot is easy to follow. This drama is good for stress relief while waiting for upcoming dramas to air lol. But then again, I'd have to warn you that you shouldn't really use common sense on this drama. Just watch it without thinking much about morals; there might be scenes where you'd think he forces himself onto her, and you might find those scenes disturbing. Personally, I read a lot of Wattpad, so it seemed normal to me; just take off my brain, and I'm good to go. However, some people might not be okay with this, so I'm just giving you guys a heads-up.

  • See You Tomorrow

    18. See You Tomorrow

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    10

    COMPLETED

This is definitely the romantic short drama that I've been looking for. There's no drama, just going with the flow. The OSTs are so good, they send me to heaven. The whole drama is so calming; it's funny and cute at the same time. I really love the warm feeling this drama gives out. The vibe is something we can't really find in other dramas; I can enjoy more episodes without getting bored of it. At first, I watched this drama because of Lu Yuxiao, but the drama made me stay; it feels so short, only 12 episodes of cuteness. It's like we're just floating with the fluffiness, the cuteness, and the happiness that the drama portrays. There wasn't even a single boring episode. This drama undoubtedly embodies the unique vibe I've been seeking, one that makes your heart flutter. I'll forever be in love with this drama.

  • Speed and Love

    19. Speed and Love

    Chinese Drama - 2025, 29 episodes

    10

    COMPLETED

I don't want it to end at all omggg! I've never been this addicted to a drama before; I would usually wait until it's fully uploaded to the end before starting to watch, but this drama was an exception. I wait every day, checking the clock to see whether it's 6pm yet. This drama is indeed a masterpiece; it felt as if I were growing up with the characters. I watched them grow up, fall in love, break up, reconcile, and become married. The directors, the production team, and the actors, especially He Yu and Yu Shuxin, did a fantastic job in bringing Jin Zhao and Jiang Mu to life. As a novel reader, this drama didn't disappoint me at all; the cinematography was astonishing. They created a masterpiece by keeping all the important elements that existed in the novel. The amount of script that they kept the same without changing was very good; they followed every single thing in the novel. I thought that was so respectful of them. Esther's acting improved a lot; I keep on seeing the better version of her whenever I watch her new dramas. Especially the differences in the character Jiang Mu; the character development was significant, and she delivered it so well. As for He Yu, he shines so bright through the character Jin Zhao. It feels as if he was born for this character; he delivered it so naturally. I used to see him act in the Legend of Shen Li, and at that time I only thought that he was one good-looking man. I really didn't expect his acting to be this excellent. He specializes in conveying his feelings through his eyes; it's like he became one with the character. It was really nice to see. Speed and Love will always hold a special place in my heart; it will always be remembered as the first drama I looked forward to every day.

  • Embrace in the Dark Night

    20. Embrace in the Dark Night

    Chinese Drama - 2024, 24 episodes

    6.5

    COMPLETED

This isn't awful, actually.  If you're not looking for a drama with a well-written plot, then try this. I only watched it because of the spice, haha. It has a Wattpad vibe; you can't really use real-life common sense with this. If you want to watch this, I'd advise you to take off your brain before watching. It's basically dark romance; some stuff is inappropriate too, so I'd warn you again that you should really take off your common sense and brain before watching it. The actors are skilled enough, though; it's just that I feel like the editing and the colour mixing aren't really that good and need improvement. You can always give it a try if you're into hot romance.

  • Derailment

    21. Derailment

    Chinese Drama - 2023, 30 episodes

    9.5

    COMPLETED

One drama with an insane plot – mind-blowing, omg! It's crazy how underrated this drama is; the plot doesn't stay stagnant, it keeps going, and it gets better every episode. The plot twist in twist and another unexpected twist made me wonder how they thought of these plots. I thought I watched enough dramas that I could guess the plot, but this drama is different, lol; what you thought it was could turn out to be something different. I guessed right once only lol, and I think everyone did too. This drama really leaves me gasping many times; it's crazy! The character development is so good, it's like I'm watching a person growing up mentally in the whole 30 episodes. Liu Haocun's acting is superb; this is the first drama of hers that I watched, and her acting shook me. I heard that she doesn't do real kisses. At first I thought it would make the drama not as good, but it turned out to be so good; her acting made it convincing enough even without the kiss. I only watched because of Lin Yi, but this drama is so interesting, and the actress was so impressive.

    22. When I Meet the Moon

    Chinese Drama - 2026, 30 episodes

  • Mr. Bad

    23. Mr. Bad

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 24 episodes

    8.5

    COMPLETED

It was one great drama without the stress. I was only watching because of Chen Zheyuan at first but then got hooked into it because of the plot. Transmigration plots are all around now in 2025, but to think back to 2022, it must have been a breakthrough. The plot was written so well, although it had some boring episodes, but it went on and wasn't stagnant. I love how the storyline drew back to the beginning of the drama; it made everything fall together so well. I can't say that you will like it, but I think most people that are into fantasy themes and transmigration would love this drama. I finished it in a day, and I can say that it's time-worthy. If you're looking for something just to enjoy and not really heavy to take in, this drama would be perfect.

  • You Are My Glory

    24. You Are My Glory

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 32 episodes

    10

    COMPLETED

I dived into this without any expectation at all; I just saw it in one recommendation clip on TikTok and went straight in. However, it turned out to be so good that I finished it in one go. YES! in one go – the whole 32 episodes, even missing one shower lol. The plot is simple and easy to follow, but what makes it stand out for me is that there's no toxicity, no drama, just a pure romance story. I have watched a few of Dilraba's shows before but never watched Yang Yang's. I just realise how handsome and how good an actor he is. If you want a drama without a toxic plot but instead with a comforting relationship and a healthy relationship, you really shouldn't miss this drama at all; this will be what you need.

  • Put Your Head on My Shoulder

    25. Put Your Head on My Shoulder

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 24 episodes

    7.5

    COMPLETED

I feel like this drama is a bit overrated, but it's good. The relationship was very calming, but at some point I found it boring. Initially, I only watched it because of Lin Yi. The first few episodes were good, but as soon as they dated, it seemed like stuff was rushed, and it was confusing too. It was good, but there were no impactful or memorable scenes. The show just flowed the way it flows, and it was just calming, nothing in particular. I don't get the hype, but maybe again because I watched it in Q4 of 2025. Overall, worth a try but I probably wouldn't consider rewatching.

  • Ski into Love

    26. Ski into Love

    Chinese Drama - 2025, 23 episodes

    9.0

    COMPLETED

It was beautifully done! Lin Yi's visuals are no joke; his face card is the only card that never declines. Wei Zhi's bubbly character is so cute and fits perfectly with Esther's portrayal. I have no idea why people dropped this because of Esther's voice, while I'm here watching it because it's Esther. I do hope that she gets more roles aside from being cute and bubbly, but I also think that no one could act these characters better than her. Back to the drama, the plot is easy to follow; without any stresses, it's just cute. Shan Chong is such a green flag; he's so warm to stay with. This is one of those dramas that is the healing type, without any toxic characters. I love it a lot, and I hope more people would find this interesting and not just drop it because it's Esther.

  • Go Go Squid!

    27. Go Go Squid!

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 41 episodes

    4.0

    COMPLETED

I dropped it at around ep 20 or something. I don't think it's bad, but it's too slow, not my vibe. The male lead is the cold type that appears to be rude instead of just cold. The female lead is so naive, the naive type that annoys me. I know that it's because she loves him, but can you at least have your own value? 41 episodes was too long, but because it was released many years ago, it's understandable. The drama isn't that bad, just not really what I would be invested in. It started off quite well, but as the drama progresses, I can't see progression in the characters. The friendship aspect was written even better than the relationship one. I see so little character development in the female lead. To be honest, this drama was recommended a lot, so I had high expectations, but I guess maybe they were too high.

  • Yesterday Once More

    28. Yesterday Once More

    Chinese Movie - 2023

    10

    COMPLETED

I've seen many plots like this before, and at first I thought there was nothing new to this, but I was wrong. I will never get tired of this plot. I actually was hoping for it to be exactly the same as the Japanese version that I watched before. Although the plot is different from the Japanese version, I still feel like the movie was excellently done; the romance and the bittersweet aspects were done so well. I love this movie so much; it really is the love of the two persons that makes the impossible possible. I don't understand why this movie is so underrated; it should've received more recognition. Chen Feiyu and Zhou Ye really delivered the characters so well. Istg, this is a must-watch if you're into time travel.

This is the perfect lighthearted drama I've been seeking. There's no angst, no dramas; it's just healing and soothing as we watch the characters grow up. I really love their friendship; the main couple remain friends for so long, and their feelings gradually grow from just friends to love. I feel as if I'm watching a lifetime of those characters, from their high school years to university and then continued post-university and working age. Their friendship brings me back to my high school years. I can picture my carefree years, the stressful time that had nothing to do with cash but only academic performance; I really miss those years. This drama made me laugh and cry and reminded me of those years when we tended to do things that would eventually be in vain, but we still did them anyway. Because what's the point of living youth if we aren't spending it? I really hope more people get to discover this drama; it's so underrated. This is indeed a lighthearted and stress-free drama you'll love.

  • Our Generation

    34. Our Generation

    Chinese Drama - 2025, 24 episodes

    9.0

    COMPLETED

This drama is so underrated; idk why it receives so much hate. It's more about family dynamics and friendships than love and romance. This drama needs mature thinking to really understand characters' complexity. If you need an illustration, I think this drama is a combination of The First Frost and When I Fly Toward You but in a deeper and darker sense. This drama really made me realize that family is the root of everything; every character in this drama came from different backgrounds and upbringings regardless of the fact that they're friends in the same group. There are some issues that one person would understand because they live with them, but some others wouldn't because their family is different. And because of this difference, the character sometimes makes choices that aren't reasonable. Some people don't have many choices in life, and they choose what they think is the best one. The OSTs were so good; they really did take me back in time. The only thing I dislike about this drama is that Qixiao barely has his scene; we barely see him even though he's the main lead.  We could have seen more of his perspective. However, don't always believe the reviews; go watch and find out about it yourself. Please keep in mind that they're just 16- and 17-year-old kids making choices.

  • Return of the Queen

    35. Return of the Queen

    Chinese Drama - 2025, 24 episodes

    8.0

    COMPLETED

The plot surely isn't new; we've seen this over and over again, but somehow they made it unique lol. Hear me out! I've never watched a drama where the male lead is naive and gullible; usually it's the case of the female lead that would have these traits. But this drama is different lol; the male lead is so naive, he would believe anything anyone says. At the same time, despite his naivety, I find him to be such a pure soul that he truly deserves our protection. It makes sense that he is this way from the way he grew up. The female lead is so heartless at some points but also understandable from where she's coming from; any woman would break down if put in her situation. My relationship with this drama can be described as a love-hate relationship, lol. There were some things that I feel like are too much or that their action is so dumb, but I just can't quit watching. It's a decent drama after all, very satisfying, very cruel, but also very fun to watch.

    COMPLETED

This drama is a very heartwarming one, with no stress nor toxicity. One thing that really surprised me was how big the age gap of the actors is in real life; their chemistry makes the gap insignificant, and it's impressive. The storytelling wasn't confusing at all, despite going back and forth between the past and the present. I'd say it's a decent drama, but it didn't really get me hooked; it's the kind of drama where you can chill and watch their love grow. I love the second lead couple more than the main one, tbh haha. When watching the trailer, I was expecting something more intense from this drama, but this is okay too, just not up to my expectations. You can definitely give this drama a try; it has a very nice plot, a well-written one indeed.

This is the perfect short drama that would cost only like an hour or two of your time, but it's worth it! I really can't help but be reminded of Wifty. It gives out a similar vibe. The plot of this drama has so much potential to be developed into something more interesting; however, it kinda went downhill midway for no reason. It's understandable, though, since it's a short drama; the plot might be going very much faster than normal. Nothing much happened in the drama; it really is a lighthearted drama you can just go with the flow while watching. Zhang Miaoyi's cute character still is my favorite. I never watched the male lead's acting, but he's quite a good actor. Each episode is only 4-6 minutes; it's very short, and you can enjoy it stress-free.

I really love the vibe and mood of this drama. The calming and warm mood is so suitable for binge-watching when it's raining. The male lead is cold at first, but he turned out to be the greenest flag; he respects her in every way possible. It has a lot of sexual tension; the kisses were *chef's kiss*. The OSTs were suitable for a rainy night or for a sleeping playlist – so soothing. Personally, I don't think there is toxicity in the drama, but it all depends on how you view toxicity. I love the female lead; she's so outspoken and a solid representation of a modern-era woman. A worthy binge-watching drama, you'll love the mood and tone it gives, the pace, and the calming plot. It felt as if I went back home – the chaos and liveliness of a village are so heartwarming. There wasn't any significant downside; it's just that I didn't really long for the drama much, and it didn't get me addicted. That's it.

I can proudly say that this is the best mini drama out there; they can really act, and it didn't appear to be cheesy. I love the mood and tone set in this drama; it's so soothing. The chemistry between the actors is really chemistrying; the second lead couple was so cute, I love them. This drama really fits in its romantic genre. Although there were toxic vibes coming from jealousy, they were so unwavering. The acting wasn't cheesy or "too much"; it was just the right amount, and their acting made it so natural. I'd say this fits in the "he fell first and fell harder" category. The whole drama is only 24 episodes of 10 minutes per episode, short but so fun to watch. If you're looking for a cute, funny drama with some tension, I'd recommend this one.
