I didn't call everybody homophobic. I gave three scenarios of people's mindset, one of them being homophobia.

In the entirety of the show Jihan, the grandad, and Ahjung think selfishly about themselves too, but people don't give them the same energy they give to dohan for some reason.

Who was the final reason that she accepted this offer, at the end of the day? It was Jihan, not dohan. She accepted this role just to spite Jihan, because he was being childish and following her around, and PRESSURING her.

She doesn't owe dohan three years of her life, but you're commenting like he put a gun to her head and forced her to sign the contract.

I think people in the comments attacking dohan are either homophobic, ignoring the fact that dohan is gay in an extremely homophobic country, or just have tunnel vision to the two main leads and the romance they're supposed to have in the show.

Dohan's character is the biggest waste of a gay character in Kdrama that I have seen. The only people I've seen defending dohan on twitter are queer people, and that says a lot to me, about the demographic of the people that watch this show.

Them using the words 'cowardly' to describe dohan annoys me, because being queer isn't the happily ever after that they see in bls or what hetero Kdrama couples get to have. Gay people have to be cowardly in situations for our survival. Dohan is a closeted chaebol whose brother and grandad want to force an unwanted existence on him. He escaped the toxicity of his family, which is a common gay experience.

If your brother is manipulating you into marrying a girl you will never like, and you grandad is putting you and in addition, your sexuality in the spotlight for the public to pick apart and criticize by forcing you to inherit his company, any gay person living in a homophobic would run away.

Gay people don't owe anybody being brave and coming out, when it could potentially bring harm their way. Didn't they see how he was being discriminated in high school. Does anyone know his lived experiences?

The way they comment sometimes makes me feel like they hate dohan for being gay, not that he's a 'coward', because his society has forced him, a gay person to hide in cowardice. He just asked his friend to help him, he didn't force or manipulate her to help him for three years. He is paying her 2m dollars. That guy is desperate. He's relatable, and watching this show, seeing a character be hated for a decision I'd have most likely taken in his situation, as a fellow gay person, hurts.

How is he emotionally blackmailing her? You people are infantalizing Ahjung a bit too much. He never forced her to take take on the long term role as his wife for three years, with payment. The person who caused her to eventually accept the offer was Jihan because he was perstering her with his childishness.

You saying he blackmailed her from the start means used something against her to force her to take the accept. He wasn't even following up on her like that about accepting it. He gave her space to think about it. Jihan made her accept it, just to annoy him.

Are we watching the same show? I'm confused about the comments in this comment section.

I'm just watching to see Dohan have a hopefully happy ending. The other two leads are extremely selfish. Dohan never forced her to accept that contract.

The writers are trying to paint a forbidden lovers plotline for Jihan and Ahjung, but I'm not feeling it. Her signing the contract means that she was choosing to be paid to help protect her friend of more than a decade's secret for a short while. She obviously shouldn't prioritize his feelings over hers, but it doesn't justify doing all of that, and breaching the contract, he believed she agreed with with his own brother (which makes it really easy for his secret to be exposed), when she, from his perspective, willingly accepted.

Dohan isn't the selfish person Jihan tries to paint him to be. I can't wait for this mess to end next week

The Jihan character makes watching this kdrama so uncomfortable for me. And, it's extra annoying because I loved Sangmin in his previous kdramas.

I means he's acting really well in wedding impossible too, but the character is just too unlikable

I mean he forces himself in her spaces, without him asking. She can't be leading someone on, when the person already follows her around obsessively.

People see jihan's attitude towards ahjung as romantic and caring, but I just generally see him as someone who can't mind his business. I just can't feel the romance I'm expected to see from their dynamic.

Is he going to be in 'please teach me'?

It's not a bl novel. The main character has multiple partners across the time period of his life the book covers. It's very realistic. Not lovey dovey.

It reminds me of the vibe late 90s/early 2000s Asian queer movies had. I felt a very similar aura of the queer movie 'So long, See you tomorrow'.

It's emotional and beautiful, and romance isn't the focus.

It's an actual service in Korea. People that don't have friends/family hire strangers to act like they are their loved ones.

No in Korean age, he would be considered 18, and in the newly adapted international age he would be 16/17.

Korean high schooler seniors graduate highschool at 18(international age).

Either in the new international or Korean age, Cha seowon would still be considered a minor.

He was 16/17, in international age, and 18/19 in korean age, because he was in a class below the other main character.

Since you're bringing up the Korean age system, The age of no more being a minor in Korea is 20 years old in Korean age, which has now recently been legally changed to the generally used international age, legally. Which means it is 18 now.


The age someone will be considered an adult is 18 years old. Cha seowon is 16/17 years old. He is still classified as a minor under the law.

Wait I just remembered seowoon called him seonbae and was a class below him, which makes him a year younger than the age I thought he was, so the age gap is 11 years now

We just have to agree to disagree, just like you said. Fiction is fiction I get that, but it does mean I'll ever defend the problematic nature of the fictitious depictions, if they have a morality issue

The relationship being a plot device doesn't make it any less problematic.

I'm not going to discuss whether a minor is prepubescent or not. Any piece of media that needs that kind of further explanation of the blurred lines of the different categories of minors, is problematic.

An adult 29 year old dated a 17 year old.

I didn't side eye the querness erasure because I thought it was going to do what love for love sake did with the borderline pedophilic plot line of making the adult person go back to high school with their adult consciousness and be romantic with an actual highschool minded student.

But, since the romance would have been between the actual 18 year old and his friend, the erasure seems quite ignorant, especially since they had no issue casting a literal criminal in this kdrama
