Outside of the relationship with his mother, the description about the rest of the plot isn't quite accurate. THIS IS NOT A BL. For an accurate representation of which kind of queer media this is, please watch a movie like 'So long, see you tomorrow'. It's the best match I have seen for the aura this series will have.
From following the plot of novel I read, there's a main character, but there's no fixed second male lead. He has multiple partners across the timeline he the book covers. Love in the big city is realistic af.
I worry that when it's airing, a bl audience may not properly appreciate the nuances, and relate to the decisions the main character in the novel may make, but this is one of my favourite foreign queer novels ever, and I hope when it's out, that the audience engages with it in a respectable manner.
I truly cannot wait for it to come out. Read the novel before it's release, if you can. It's an experience.
Teases between an adult and someone still in highschool?
The main characters in the show are an adult and a teenager. Those are the two people that some people make ship edits of, which makes watchers who aren't familiar with the original story think there are teases.
The original teenager whose body the adult took over only gets substantial screentime at the end of the story.
Even in the original story there were no teases between the adult and teen, there's implied platonic bromance in their dynamic, since the gangster has a father figure like dynamic with the teenagers he meets at the school. The romance and teases are in the original novel between the two teenagers, but it has been unfortunately removed in this adaptation😞
The odd tiktoks edits that popped up on my fyp made me remember new episodes have dropped. Yay!
What confuses me about the edits I've been seeing is that the two leads with the swapped adult soul and the teenager are being shipped, and people are wishing it was a bl.
It's sad the bl elements were censored, but aren't the people angry claiming they're angry because the two teenage boys won't be together at the end of the story like in the original novel? It has nothing to do with the adult and teenager right? Because that's not what I'm seeing in the comments section of those videos.
Why are people comfortable with making romantic ship edits of someone in his late 40s and a teenager?
The controversy isn't about how much screen time is dedicated to the gay romance. It's that the producers felt…
Which is why I said gay people aren't a monolith. I just expressed myself and my opinions, just as other (hopefully gay) people expressed theirs too.
I never intended to speak over other queer people, so why is your reply to me on attack mode? I literally acknowledged others might have differing opinions to mine, and what might seem as not a big deal to me, might be a big deal to others.
I actually kinda... like it? If the romance is at the end of the show and between the two teenage boys, the actual plot isn't being affected as much as some people on tiktok made it out to be. There should be no romantic scenes between an adult and a teenager.
I'm glad those tiktoks came on my fyp. The kdrama gives me the vibes of those 2013-2017 Kdramas with a cheap budget, but still enjoyable.
If it's just the ending that is being changed, I don't quite see the issue. It's not like the romance was a major plot in the story. Btw, before anybody attacks me, I'm queer.
If any queer person, I don't mean random straight women bl fetishizers, I mean queer people are offended by the erasure. Your feelings are valid. We aren't a monolith. What might not offend me, might offend you, and that doesn't invalidate your feelings
There are so many queer stories being told out there these days. I'm sure that a day would come where all queer stories will be broadcasted on tv channels without worry of commercial success or failure. So, let's comfort ourselves by watching the numerous already existing queer media out there. The future for our representation is still so bright.
The movie is just about the first chapter of the book. Which heavily focuses on their friendship.
What did you expect?

"That kind of dynamic can be unhealthy"
That kind of dynamic IS unhealthy

So, I'm just going to leave this comment here to point out that it was edited. You don't have to reply anymore.
I just want people who might be scrolling here to know I'm not baselessly saying I felt attacked.

Am I not allowed to express myself?

Happy pride month everybody🌈🌈🥹
One month later looking back at this show, this is one of the most annoying kdrama fumbles of all time
