okay I understand where you're coming from and I think we both agree on the fundamentals ^_^ I just thought the cultural nuances in the original work were removed because the uyghur cast are not listed on mdl. And YES to more dramas like To the wonder!!

L&R has the most exciting plot among the xianxias I've watched. I personally found the characters a bit flat and there are so many crazy angsty stuff that get in the way of the romance (sometimes unnecessary and annoying because of the way the chars handle them), but I found their chemistry adorable so I tolerated all of that. Also, the story is super complex and intriguing. You don't have to force yourself if you find the characters unlikeable but if you think you'd love good plot twists and epic backstories, you might have some patience and watch the whole thing bec the latter reveals are super interesting.
Y'all if anyone has any anime, web novel, donghua, manhua, book etc in mind that you enjoyed and can picture wyl and cfy playing the leads in it's drama/movie adaptation, PLEASE GIVE ME RECOMMENDATIONS!!!! The genre doesn't matter guys even English fantasy books inspired by Chinese mythology are okay 😭 (also just to be clear, I don't ship them. I just love the chemistry their frienship brings on screen)

1. I'm not american 2. I'm not a fan of dilireba and I never cared about this drama because of her, I was interested in the source material to begin with. 3. I didn't say the sociopolitics of race and ethnicity in china are the same as the U.S. It's just a very much inevitable reality that in every non homogeneous and multinational society, there IS gonna be discrimination against the ones who fall into minorities. If won't dissappear into thin air if you say it doesn't exist. I'm saying this as someone living in a multicultural country where people deny xenophobia and discrimination with the exact rhetorics you brought up. 4. The bad representation of ethnic minorities in Chinese media (books, dramas ,pop culture etc) is not something I made up; it's actually what I've been paying attention to and realising after CHINESE critics and drama/novel lovers always mention. 5. I've already told you exactly what the difference is between non Han actors playing Han characters vs Han people being cast as ethnic characters but seems like you either never read my comment or are just reluctant to understand.

I genuinely loved how complex and insane the plot was and I adored the cp so much but jesus christ all the characters pissed me off to no ends at some point...SF with his chronic noble idiocy syndrome and XJ with her distrust and how easily she got manipulated all the time 💀 The whole show could've been a good 20 episode shorter without all the evil angsty arcs lmao
since some people keep mentioning it I have to give you all some context: When xianyu's douban rating came out it has started airing for something like less than a week (not even half of the show was out at that point) and everybody, even the drama bloggers on weibo who are not fans of any actor and just talk abt shows from a genuine perspective, were saying the rating was totally unreasonable. There were only 9k ratings and the 1 stars affected the initial score a lot. In comparison, moonlit reunion started airing 2 days after xianyu but the douban score opened just today!!! And no surprise it's higher by 1 point since there are 30k ratings and the ones who rated it are people who actually watched the show, so the ones who actually watched and rated it are gonna outnumber the ones who just rated it 1 star after watching 1 episode... Also, I love txw to d3ath and hate bringing this up here, but almost everybody on chinese socials has been saying despite MR having better prod and better use of budget, the storytelling and acting in xianyu is more polished and the show overall more entertaining 😭 so how come xianyu has a lower rating??? Just make it make sense okay...I'm gonna assure you it'd be at least 6.5 if they weren't being shady a$sholes and opened the ratings NOW

no offence but xianxia is the last genre of literary fiction to look at if you hate the characters stabbing e/o and things getting messy between them lol
so I've been following this Donghua called Island of Siliang for a while now and I always thought wyl looked like the fmc in that one. I never imagined cfy as the mmc but now that I'm looking at the pictures I'm "hear me out"ing myself snd it's kind of working osjhwihw so what about cdramaland giving us a Siliang drama adaptation with cfy and wyl as the leads 🗣
