I feel like some ppl don't really understand how these kinds of gender swaps or stuff like this that seem like unimportant non-issues to them connect to a much bigger issue about the industry with the way they dismiss it as "antis being boring haters".
Whether ppl care about the og novel or not, it's dissapointing to see the erasure of women and ppl who are dissapointed aren't tjr antis, they're disappointed bc it's become a very repetitive pattern in the industry.
Like yeah I've been obsessed with tjr since his debut and have been waiting for him to do something non gjm forever but I'm dissapointed bc I'm tired of seeing the industry constantly adapt female centric novels into male centric dramas. They either always water down the fem chars to make the mls looks better or just do sth like this. It's a pretty valid complaint tbh 😭 The industry just doesn't believe women can carry projects like this if there isn't a man in it and ppl have the right to be sad about it okay???
All of this being said though, tjr looks pretty cute here and I'm still happy that he's finally getting a chance to get out of gjm's bubble. I'll probably watch it but as someone who cares about the portrayal of women in media, I can't really help the bitter taste in my mouth and I don't think it's fair to call everyone who is critical of this issue an anti or hater!

Well you said it. Tbh when an actor does NOTHING to call out their fans' toxic behaviour, I start thinking they enjoy the fantasy of millions of ternage girls bullying everybody and their mama over them, fragile male ego and all lol.
Chen duling has told her fans to respect her costars multiple times, but most men don't say a word when their fans harass their female costars and the production team bc gege didn't get enough screentime in a female centric drama.
In addition to all this, after being into c-ent for some time you start noticing patterns. If every single romance drama a certain actor is in butchers the ip it's adapted from bc the ml is too good and too important and the fl watered down compared to the original story, then the guy and his team/label have to do something with it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Everytime a man gets billed first in the adaptation of a completely female centric novel the scriptwriter of A dream within a dream lets out a chuckle....like I genuinely picture the actor sitting in the meeting room arrogantly with his sunglasses on, having his manager bully the producers into changing the script to make him look cooler bc his majesty's ego would hurt at the mere thought of a woman being listed above him in the credits and having more screentime than him 😭 I genuinely don't understand why actors who don't like being love interests of women do romance at all?? Idk dude maybe you should stick to ur male centric IPs!!! Changing stories that are about the growth and journies of oppressed women and making a good chunk of them about some dude is not just annoyingly bad, it's actually bad in a misogynistic and offensive way lol

well imo the "joining hands to solve a problem" trope is actually WAY better than all the other recycled xianxia plot lines about jobless gods falling in love for 3 lifetimes or those rebirth and revenge stories with corny court politics that give you the impression of having been written by teenagers. Journey and conquest setups allow for a VERY broad range of storylines and really diverse thematic deliveriy unlike the other common tropes in Chinese fantasy historical fiction. And they're actually the perfect ground for a good romantic build up that's slow burn and actually realistic. (to me most believable romances in xianxia/xuanhuan/wuxia dramas shape when characters go on a journey tgt)
And tbh this trope is just a VERY common wuxia foundation...like to a point that makes it more of a literary cultural heritage than trope/cliche lol. Even the most critically acclaimed pieces of wuxia media start their stories like this 😭

The industry is becoming an endless cycle of greedy production companies picking up romance novels (that WOMEN write and read!!!!!!!) and sucking all the girls who are the audience dry off of money and clout but not having an actual ounce of respect for women. Always billing their beloved popular gege 1st, reducing the fl's screentime in his favour, dumbing her char down to make him look mighty and strong and selfless and intelligent and_
