Logged in after 3 months to see ppl saying this drama is gone for god knows how long...I've been living with the hope to see it all this time wdyfm it's SHELVED
I feel like some ppl don't really understand how these kinds of gender swaps or stuff like this that seem like unimportant non-issues to them connect to a much bigger issue about the industry with the way they dismiss it as "antis being boring haters". Whether ppl care about the og novel or not, it's dissapointing to see the erasure of women and ppl who are dissapointed aren't tjr antis, they're disappointed bc it's become a very repetitive pattern in the industry. Like yeah I've been obsessed with tjr since his debut and have been waiting for him to do something non gjm forever but I'm dissapointed bc I'm tired of seeing the industry constantly adapt female centric novels into male centric dramas. They either always water down the fem chars to make the mls looks better or just do sth like this. It's a pretty valid complaint tbh π The industry just doesn't believe women can carry projects like this if there isn't a man in it and ppl have the right to be sad about it okay??? All of this being said though, tjr looks pretty cute here and I'm still happy that he's finally getting a chance to get out of gjm's bubble. I'll probably watch it but as someone who cares about the portrayal of women in media, I can't really help the bitter taste in my mouth and I don't think it's fair to call everyone who is critical of this issue an anti or hater!
My thought on this is yes, i don't think people will be interested if the lead is female because this is not romance…
This is such a misogynistic and ancient stereotype though, it's not being "realistic". Women are not brainless airheads who watch and read things only if they have romance with a dude in them. When has the industry ever made an idol drama with a female protagonist and no romance in it out there that makes you assume ppl won't be interested in ti? The problem isn't that women don't like female centric stories without straight romance in them, it's the fact that the industry just sees their female audience as man obsessed idiots so they think these kinds of dramas won't get any attention and just don't make them lmao The proof being that Tencent dropped the very first non romance, female centric 3d donghua ever made last year and it became super popular exactly bc the protagonist was a woman with no male love interest!!
guys....they're actually gonna do a modern movie tgt it's not a rumour it's REAL π icfb this I'm gonna lose my mind please 20 more projects for lulu and feiyu
Changing stories that are about the growth and journies of oppressed women and making a good chunk of them about…
Male liuliangs being full of themselves and messing up productions bc of their ego is not some conspiracy theory, industry insiders talk about this all the time. The industry IS sexist and men benefit from it, period. You can acknowledge toxic fandom culture but to lift all responsibility from arrogant men who take advantage of the industry's favoritism towards them and dump every bit of it on "hormonal fangirls" is misogynistic! Tbf I don't think you know enough about c-ent my friend!!! Fans don't have enough power to change scripts when the operators and the ones competing are billion dollar corporations π€·π»ββοΈ the most fandoms can do is fight with eachother on weibo and piss you off lmao
Lol,calm down pls,its not that bad exactly, and mind you actors don't have all that freedom except they are independent…
well if you read your own words again you'll notice that is MY problem with the industry as well. It's not okay and not normal that production teams look for male liuliangs to boost up the shows' popularity when their cash grab in the first place relies on stories that are written about women and are for women.
Personally, I feel you have got it wrong. It is not the male stars that are diva-rish, it is their "mainy…
Well you said it. Tbh when an actor does NOTHING to call out their fans' toxic behaviour, I start thinking they enjoy the fantasy of millions of ternage girls bullying everybody and their mama over them, fragile male ego and all lol. Chen duling has told her fans to respect her costars multiple times, but most men don't say a word when their fans harass their female costars and the production team bc gege didn't get enough screentime in a female centric drama. In addition to all this, after being into c-ent for some time you start noticing patterns. If every single romance drama a certain actor is in butchers the ip it's adapted from bc the ml is too good and too important and the fl watered down compared to the original story, then the guy and his team/label have to do something with it π€·π»ββοΈ
Everytime a man gets billed first in the adaptation of a completely female centric novel the scriptwriter of A dream within a dream lets out a chuckle....like I genuinely picture the actor sitting in the meeting room arrogantly with his sunglasses on, having his manager bully the producers into changing the script to make him look cooler bc his majesty's ego would hurt at the mere thought of a woman being listed above him in the credits and having more screentime than him π I genuinely don't understand why actors who don't like being love interests of women do romance at all?? Idk dude maybe you should stick to ur male centric IPs!!! RJL does this shite all the time too and his fans never accept the fa ct that every show he's in gets butchered bc HE demands changes in his favour
I think the drama is going to be balanced, neither female-centric nor male-centric. I also think those who are…
Changing stories that are about the growth and journies of oppressed women and making a good chunk of them about some dude is not just annoyingly bad, it's actually bad in a misogynistic and offensive way lol
I was really looking forward to this but itβs the same βjoining hands to solve a problemβ storyline again.…
well imo the "joining hands to solve a problem" trope is actually WAY better than all the other recycled xianxia plot lines about jobless gods falling in love for 3 lifetimes or those rebirth and revenge stories with corny court politics that give you the impression of having been written by teenagers. Journey and conquest setups allow for a VERY broad range of storylines and really diverse thematic deliveriy unlike the other common tropes in Chinese fantasy historical fiction. And they're actually the perfect ground for a good romantic build up that's slow burn and actually realistic. (to me most believable romances in xianxia/xuanhuan/wuxia dramas shape when characters go on a journey tgt) And tbh this trope is just a VERY common wuxia foundation...like to a point that makes it more of a literary cultural heritage than trope/cliche lol. Even the most critically acclaimed pieces of wuxia media start their stories like this π
I was #here since those short clips of them swinging their swords dropped btw I KNEW the chemistry was gonna break the internet since day 1 baobao you will be FAMOUS
someone said Zhou yiran has an iphone face now I cant unsee it
They're about to be proven WRONG bc there are only trailer s out so far and he's serving that "long hair strands falling into a melancholic looking face" look the way no gege has done in ages ^_^
This is gonna be another case of a drama lead by 2000s born actors serving amazing performances and amazing chemistry!! There's a reason cnetz are obsessed with the new gen actors and WE'RE ABOUT TO NOTICE
Everybody saying it's for the better that she's free from this...I mean yeah they sucked and didn't deserve her but I'm genuinely tired of rebirth revenge girlboss stroies and the same wooden mlsπ I was looking forward to this one bc it had a fresh premise and face like WAY... the ppl in this prod team will start coughing in 3 days
Billing a dude 1st in a drama named malicious EMPRESS is actually foul. He should just pick up male centric ips…
The industry is becoming an endless cycle of greedy production companies picking up romance novels (that WOMEN write and read!!!!!!!) and sucking all the girls who are the audience dry off of money and clout but not having an actual ounce of respect for women. Always billing their beloved popular gege 1st, reducing the fl's screentime in his favour, dumbing her char down to make him look mighty and strong and selfless and intelligent and_
