idk much about the original work this is adapted from but jlfx novels are generally really quirky and there is lots of romance in them so you shouldn't expect what you do from qsk novels in the first place

One pet peeve of mine with costume dramas is that they ALWAYS portray the fls as determined people with very strong morals and clear cut distinction between right and wrong; but then they forget about their grudges against the unhinged stuff male chars do in 2 episodes and it's very contradictory to their supposed characteristics and therefore, lazy writing imo. (IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND IT'S AN INSTANT DROP FOR ME)
In xianyu on the other hand, the fl's only goal in life is to chill in peace. So as long as the guy's treatment towards her is in alignment with her goals, she just couldn't gaf what he does outside of her life and with other people and it's just so funny to me lol
