I think the empress has a bad health to begin with. Her family scandals especially crown prince’s and the 5th princess’s made it worse. You can see her health has been deteriorating since the Wang family’s fall.
ZLS’s born to play CSS and WL’s born to play LBY. I can’t imagine other actors playing these two characters. Period. The performances of both have been so amazing. We should appreciate the efforts of these two talented young actors have put for bringing the characters to life. Just enjoy the ride. For sure, I will feel a void in my heart after this drama ends. Ive been religiously looking forward to Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays since this drama aired.
I like how CSS’ tone of voice when speaking with LBY has evolved in parallel with the development of her feelings towards him. She speaks in an endearing way and her voice carries deep affection. ZLS is amazing for her ability to portray wide range of emotions depending on whom CSS interacts with.

On a side note. Wang Ling is basically marrying a man who plotted the demise of her own grandfather. And it’s by order of her mother who thought the Qian’an family is indebted to Peng Kun. What an irony!
I am rather disappointed with how the emperor handled Marquis Yue punishment. He’s always partial to his family. The look of disappointment in LBY’s eyes broke my heart. He was trying to take a lawful route by bringing Marquis Yue to the emperor instead of acting on his own. But what did the emperor do? Only simply removed MY’s titles and sent him to guard mausoleum.
I just put two and two together. In episode 39, it was LBY’s scheme to take down Marquis Yue all along. He convinced the emperor to bring forward the marriage between 5th princess and Marquis Yue’s son so that Marquis Yue can make his “mistake”. And Marquis Yue really fell into LBY’s trap. LBY is the ultimate schemer!

In my opinion, if he still chooses to go with the revenge, he should really let CSS know. She has every right to know and decide whether she still wants to be with him after knowing the truth. At least she gets to make the choice. It’s her life after all. In today’s episode, she did ask him whether he still has grudge but he said no. I was genuinely hoping he would be honest with her when she asked. From CSS’s reaction during the hug, I somehow feel that CSS can feel something is not right.
Now I think of it. I find LBY a bit selfish. Here is why.
Even before he got engaged with SS, he had had this big revenge plan in mind. Based on how he handles things, we can expect his revenge execution won’t be a lawful one. Based on the novel, he will proceed with his plan no matter what. We have been seeing him scheme to find evidence for his revenge. Which means he will definitely be punished for it regardless how much emperor loves him and this will definitely affect his relationship with SS. Despite knowing all the consequences and what it means for him and his future relationship, he still proceeded to pursue CSS and made her fall in love with him. The irony is that he keeps asking CSS to be honest with him and lean on him. He is upset with her when she doesn’t confide in him. But has he ever be honest with CSS with what’s going on in his mind and his big plan? Not at all. I feel bad for CSS. Idk how she’s going to cope with all that will go down soon.
One of the reasons I love this drama is that the couple do communicate. And every time they make up after their fights, they understand each other better and their relationship becomes better. Also, LBY is so consistent. Never did he ever say to break up with CSS even though he was disappointed with her actions a few times. Even CSS thought he no longer wanted to marry her.
