You are right he can convey his emotions and thoughts through his eyes, manner and the tones of his speech. WL is such a talented actor. My heart broke seeing CSS cry her heart out. She always considers herself a strong and independent woman but at that moment she conveyed her vulnerability which it shows she trusts LBY that's why she didn't hold back to reveal that side of her. ZLS keeps surprising me. She keeps getting better and better with her acting. CSS character gives her a lot of opportunities to challenge herself and explore her talent as an actor.
I rewatched episode 36. During the cry scene, when CSS said she cried because she missed home. I could see from LBY's eyes expression he seemed to know CSS was not being honest with him and was a bit disappointed. That's why during the bed scene, he asked her again.
