Lovely Runner has spoiled folks. They seem to be comparing everything to it. I love Sunjae but damn...at some…
I totally get you. I don't know what went wrong with Lovely Runner for me personally, but it must be that, it was cringe. I couldn't figure out why the ML was soo in love with FL that he could die for her. I understood the ML made her overcome depression when she was in the hospital bed. that's why she loved the ML. But I couldn't understand vice versa. Their love story was kinda something drawn from fairy tales. I don't know, there was something wrong with the build up to their romance. I just lacked that spark moment. On the other hand, My Sweet Mobster (2024), is more cringe than my Lovely Runner. But I am enjoying it more than Lovely Runner, in fact, I can't wait for the next episode. The build up chemistry between the two leads in My Sweet Mobster (2024) is what made it interesting for me.

Well, I think you read my comment just to reply and not to understand. Serendipity's Embrace: Comedy, Romance, Youth Goblin: Comedy, Romance, Fantasy, Melodrama
These two dramas are romcoms but different. The fact that Goblin is a form of sci-fi in addition to romcom makes a difference. That's my entire point. Plain romcom is easy to predict the storyline. Most of those of the dramas you mentioned are sci-fi: Go Back Couple, Familiar Wife etc. Fantasy makes it less boring. I said something about that didn't I? Those dramas you mentioned are not solely focused on romance, there are other elements which makes them interesting.
I love you mentioned What's Wrong with Secretary Kim because that's a good comparison to this drama we're watching and not most of the other dramas. The are both romcom but in What's Wrong with Secretary Kim , there was some mystery we were trying to solve. While watching we were curious about the past of Park Seo Joon's character and the traumatic events that made who he was. Unlike What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, this show we're trying to watch, there's no mystery to solve. Mind you, both are heavily filled with kdrama tropes. And I defended that by saying I don't have to watch a drama just because there's a mystery or suspense attached to it. As long as there's chemistry with the leads and it doesn't have a lot of cliché then we're good.

But isn't that true almost to every Kdrama out there. Normally, clichés and coincidences are called tropes. I know you're trying to say they made the show almost obvious. Maybe you can easily tell from just a miles away how the story will unfold. But thats how rom-coms normally are. They're hard to pull because the concept its already overused. People have told romance stories over and over again. There's nothing fresh to it. What can separate one romcom to another maybe if you attach suspense or mystery around it. If you take any romance kdrama and remove the suspense or the thriller bit, you're left with that cliché part. They meet, fall in love, maybe break up or get married, the end. Having watched most of these romcoms, my standards are quite low. I watch for the chemistry and the characters. If you interested in something that keeps you at the edge of your sit or engaged, you can try thrillers and sci-fi dramas. They're also good.

I did not call out your comment. I did not launch an attack, so you're safe. Do not get defensive. I have been watching Kdramas since 2006. So that's like 18 years. At this point, I can see through almost every plot. To be sincere with you, not many dramas get me excited. There aren't many dramas that are new, innovative, or exciting as you said. I mean, I can't even list more than a few dramas that are fresh from the many Kdramas out there. There are many tropes that I'm sure you're aware of. I guess I'm just that simple-minded; I could just enjoy a drama simply because it has good storytelling.
So even though the plot might appear familiar, the execution, acting, and details can still make a drama enjoyable. Sometimes, it's not about reinventing the wheel but about how well the story is told within the given framework. Even familiar scenes can resonate differently based on the context and characters. What I would agree with you however is about the chemistry. If a chemistry between the leads is great, one can watch it even if the plot gets sloppy. Again, I'm just simple minded. I just love love. I can watch a scene about two people falling in love, and I'm in it if its executed well. Also, my comment did mention that all this depend on someone's preference or taste. So yes I did factor about someone's opinion be subjective.
P.S my earlier question directed to you was the type of dramas you find not-so-average. Coz to me I don't see any difference. I don't find many dramas with 'unique' plots. I can almost tell who is gonna fall in love with who and how their story would unfold. I think thats a big part of kdrama land. However, the chemistry, that's something I look for and for it not to be cringey.

Okay, Kate, kindly enlighten me, why is it mediocre? And I am curious too, what type of show do you consider well executed or rather not mediocre? Also, like you, I couldn't jump into the hype of lovely runner. Okay, I did love it at the start but I don't know where but in the middle of the show, I couldn't quite finish it. So I ended up dropping it. Now, that I am thinking about it, it must be after they got together that I dropped the show. I wasn't exactly curious about where the story would end up. I guess that was enough for me to conclude the show. Until now, I am not even one bit curious about how the show ended.
This show made me even more depressed. Why depression is still judged as weak, selfish, etc..?
One way to get out of depression is to think 'I am not a victim'. I know. It sounds cruel. But that's how l discovered you can get out of it. Coz frankly not many people care these days, you're the only one who can save you. I started believing that I am in control. I found that when you stop blaming situation, people or things about things not turning out good for you, you're happier. Another thing, your thoughts. Depression start and end with the type of thoughts you have. So, if you feel there's nothing positive about your thoughts, try to work that out. Reflect on yourself what type of negative thoughts am I experiencing? Why am I experiencing these thoughts? Now start changing them. Do anything until you start having positive thoughts. Depression comes from within, so search from within. Believe that nothing or anyone from outside should and can make you depressed. You are in control of your emotions and thoughts. So in short depression begins and ends with you. Take back that control over your emotions and thoughts, and boom life isn't that bad after all.
Lol so it from 6 years ago 😂😂😂 thankfully they meet at broker
The dude must be the pioneer of this platform. I saw he joined MDL in 2012. Speak to him politely and you might be made a VIP. He has connections in here, LOL.
People are calling this mediocre? Did I miss something? I mean I enjoyed the 1st episode and I loved it. Or has my taste gotten worse, LOL? Or maybe people be asking a lot these days. I think if you like romcoms, you'll definitely enjoy this. I don't go for a show just because there's a mystery that needs to be solved. I sometimes enjoy a good thriller with a mix of romance but that is not always easy to pull off. So for a show like this, which solely or mostly focuses on the romance bit, I quite like it. I know most people would want a romance similar to ''Its okay not to be okay'' , which has a bit of suspense and mystery to it. But I also find a show like this quite enjoyable. I think what people here are complaining about is about preference. Otherwise, the show is executed quite well. Just love the individual characters and relate to their story and maybe you might love the show.
