Hmm, not sure if I should drop this one or keep watching.. There's technically nothing wrong with this series, but it's also not that exciting. It's a bit too "Hollywood" for me I guess.
hi, can someone help explain why is there a sudden japanese language in episode 1? what's with the abruptness?…
That's actually Zouey and Teena thinking. Zouey (maybe even both of them) is an otaku who likes to watch too much hentai. That's basically the language he's used to in a situation like that, hence his thoughts are in Japanese.
By now they've added the translation for the Japanese parts on Gagaoolala. But if you don't feel like watching the first two episodes again, here's the translation:
EP1 - Teena and Zoey make out on the bed: Zouey: Can you? I can’t take it anymore. Let’s focus on the outside. But… Don’t take it off! Teena: Don’t just suck. Lick the tip as well. Flick your tongue. Amazing! Go down slowly. Hold on. Go slower. Then… I’ll start. Zouey: But… Can we not put it in? Please. If we don’t prepare we won’t be able to move.
EP2 - In the art class room: Zouey: No. If he keeps going, I will cum. I will get mocked by them.
EP2 - Romantic dinner: Teena: I’ve never experienced this before. Why is he so relaxed? He’s about to get swindled. He keeps making me feel like I really want sex, but I don’t just want sex. I want him to be my boyfriend.
How is it possible to make a drama with its core focus about sex, totally and utterly unsexy? That really is a…
Unsexy to you maybe. I know for a fact there are more than enough people out there who like what they see (myself included). Maybe not everything is up my alley, but that's kind of the point of the series: To explore sex in all it's forms.
All I can say is: I really hope 90% of the people who leave comments here won't watch another episode. You guys honestly don't know how to have fun, it's kinda sad
Reflecting on your thoughts, the exploration of this BL drama captivates me. Initially, I too viewed it through…
"The beauty of art lies in each viewer's unique perspective" That's very true :) I've studied art history, so the references to famous artworks and the usage of colors and lines are quite easy for me to spot. But others have for example also done some research on the BGM of this series. Turns out the song titles fit the scenes they're used in perfectly! Like in ep1 when Zouey was sad while looking at his unanswered chat with Nant: The song title is "Faith in you". Or when Nont googles the Playboyy club website in ep2, the song is called "Chasing the truth".
If you want to read more meta about Playboyy, I recommend visiting Tumblr. By now we've formed a bit of a group there to analyze this series
I think a lot of posters here are sexophobics. No, seriously.
Some might be, but I think it's mostly because they're using a different way to depict sex in Playboyy and a lot of casual BL fans simply aren't used to it. They're used to stuff like LITA and Cutie Pie. Playboyy reminds me a lot or Japanese Pinku Eiga (Pink Films). They're sort of underground movies with themes you usually won't find in main stream media and they often combine erotic with horror and satire. You can find a few of those gay pink films on Gagaoolala actually, like "The shortest distance is round" or "Dangerous drugs of sex". I've watched a couple of similar movies, so to me the sex scenes in Playboyy don't seem that weird.
Agreed. I think in Playboyy they're using this imagery as a reference to movies and artworks, but without the same meaning the original had. They also included Rodin's "The Thinker" and Michelangelo's "The creation of Adam" in ep1 when Zouey painted Teena. For me it just means that the way Zouey looks at Teena is similar to the way he views an art piece. Which is interesting, because in ep1 it was established that Zouey feels more attraction towards paintings and mangas than towards actual real humans. By viewing Teena as a piece of art, Zouey is able to make the leap from 2d art to a real human.
I'm actually surprised about the amount of negative comments after ep2... Because I just spent the whole evening writing and reading meta analysis about it and they haven't even explored everything that was shown. There is actually so much plot going on that I'll probably need a clip board or something to sort it all out. Also there are a lot of elements in this series that I find interesting: The color coding of characters, the social comments, the depiction of kink and D/s relationships, the references to well known works of art and queer movies both from the west and from other asian countries. There is a lot going on in this series and I for one will be entertained for the next weeks to come :)
ok how hard is it to understand that I and many others didn't dislike the first episode because of the presence…
The nc scenes seem to be influenced by Japanese Pink films. It's a typical style that you can find in those underground gay movies. I've watched a couple of those, so to me at least, the sex scenes don't seem all that weird. It's just a different style from the usual BLs that focus heavily on romance and aesthetics.
I honestly don't get why so many complain about a lack of plot and depth. I mean, I could write a whole essay about the first two or tree minutes alone. There is a lot of social commentary hidden in this series.
This show JUST came out like a day ago and y’all already pissy with your feelings about a shows FIRST EPISODE.…
Well said. Tbh I think they added so many NC scenes in the first episode to quickly get rid of any viewers who aren't the target audience, so that the rest of us may enjoy the series in peace. Judging by some of the comments here, it's working :)
I had a lot of fun with this first episode and wrote a ton of meta (which is always a sign that I like a series). Already looking forward to next week! On a side note: Teena really makes me feel weak, what a beauty 😌
I love this series so much, everything is just perfect: The acting, the story, even the ost. 10/10 for me :) I hope we'll get to see everyone again in a second season!
All the important characters have been introduced now and I'm curious to find out how the whole mystery around Nant will unravel.

Will they release the uncut version on YouTube? Does anyone know?
