Most jdramas (at least those that I've watched) portray religious cults negatively (most of the time it's associated…
Thanks for clearing that up! This was actually the first J-drama I’d seen that dealt with this topic, so I was curious and thought I’d look into it a bit more. Thanks for taking the time to explain! 😊
Unlike most of the comments here, I was actually VERY satisfied with this series. The opening genuinely gave me chills, and that ending scene in episode 4? OH MY GOD. It was SO shocking, and even now, just thinking about it makes me feel shocked all over again. I also really liked the pacing and how things unfolded. The thing with Japanese dramas is that I’ve learned I need to binge-watch them to enjoy them even more. And of course, I was satisfied with the ending too. One thing I’m still not quite sure how to feel about, though, is the religious cult. I mean, in K-dramas, these groups are almost always criticized and portrayed as the dark side of the story, basically the villains. But this was my first time seeing a religious cult portrayed in a J-drama, and I felt like the show neither painted them as good nor bad. It gave them a pretty neutral portrayal. Some of them were good, some were bad, but overall, the story didn’t seem to take a clear stance on them, which left me a little confused. That said, it actually made me curious enough to do some research and see how Japanese society and culture generally view these kinds of issues. Because ultimately, I think every story should be judged within the context of the culture it comes from. If you’re on the fence about watching this, just keep one thing in mind: this isn’t a surreal or fantasy series. It leans more toward sci-fi. If you go into it with that mindset, I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed. I also absolutely LOVED Yamada’s performance.
Korea for some reason like making dramas showing people who still respect their parents despite mental, emotional…
It's not just a Korean thing. It's common across Asia, and I'm Asian myself. It's not something dramas need to condition people into, it's simply part of the culture.
This series was supposed to be a free group therapy session, with its green-flag characters bringing peace back to our hearts after all those Chinese red flags we’ve had to endure. But guess what? We’re now just a traumatized bunch of people praying for this story to end well so we can at least grieve in peace. 😂😂😂
It’s had an insanely huge impact on me, and even though I want to finish watching it, at the same time, I really don’t want it to end.
180 degree longitude passes through us. For me this two have the same vibe
Thank you so much, this truly made me smile!🥰Honestly, I've been watching BL for years now, and at this point, just romance isn't enough for me anymore. I really care about the production quality, the directing or the cinematography, the acting, the subtext. And this drama is definitely one of my top favorites too. So happy you feel the same, because not many people talk about it! So thank you for this little moment of connection🤍
