I mean, he recognized in episode 2 as XFF, he just tries to push her to admit it. He's been around her with her father, so I'm sure they've talked about it now. Just....offscreen.
So glad that the Emperor is not against their relationship and that confirms to me even more that the 'argument' that comes later...is a trap being laid for Wan Ning.
XH is as good at what he does because he thinks logically about what is best for country, and puts his own emotions…
I neither agree or disagree until we're shown one way or the other. We heard, on multiple occasions from more than one character, some variation of 'keeps your friends close, but your enemies closer.' There are multiple times throughout the show where we're shown after the fact, how something happened or information came to light. He might very well care deeply for her, but in shows like this you cannot assume anything until the show is over. Also, keep in mind, based on the teaser for episode 34: it looks like the argument between the Emperor and XH about his feelings for JL is meant to be overheard and likely is a trap.

Well, we don't know that the Emperor actually trusts the consort. We know she can't be trusted, maybe the Emperor does too and could be that he is playing his part in his own chess game. Also remember that they are trying to root out corruption from court for the betterment of the people. While, maybe not to us because we're watching and rooting for JL and XH, but to the Emperor sacrificing JL to destroy a corruption and root out treason for the betterment of the nation...is acceptable. What is one life against millions? And even XH and JL both understand and accept this. JL always understood what she was signing up for and said on multiple occasions that she views it as worth it. It is only XH who is starting to waiver.
I also think that the emperor might be considering putting her life in danger if needed.
It doesn't bother me. I think its good that the Emperor and XH have enough trust that XH isn't keeping her a secret from the Emperor. Its likely that XH pitched using JL to the Emperor, by referring to her as a pawn. Especially since JL herself calls herself a pawn. JL may not have been explicitly been told that the Emperor is really calling all the shots, but she's smart enough to have worked it out. Also, given a clip from a later episode it sounds like both XH and JL refer to themselves as pawns in each others wars.
So much happened at this state dinner. Loved it :)
Given the teaser drop for episodes 32-33, it looks like its a non issue. Unless the fight with the emperor in the teaser happens before he leaves to escort the princess, it seems that he is already back, and then leaves again. The focus seems more on Wanning and YSR finally snapping.
