I doubt he thinks a woman able to survive in the palace is an innocent dove and he didn't care about Jiang Li's…
I think it would be interesting to see what would have happened if Consort Li didn't die. Likely she would've continued wanting to teach JL a lesson so she can get justice for her sister. But I cannot imagine XH would tolerate it....you think XH and the Emperor would've eventually ended up in a disagreement?
You know, the more I think about it.....While I understand that the Emperor had to see the bigger picture.....he still was in love with a woman who he knew took part in trying to drug and ruin JL's reputation as well as killed a maid she was jealous of....and did nothing.
Let's be honest. XH came up with the idea of using the army to rush everything and bring an end to the war in a hurry....because the idea of XFF being forced to marry YSR pushed him over the edge and he was like: I'm done playing, we're ending this before WN and YSR get their hands on my wife.
Might be a bit of a hot take, not justifying YSR's actions because he was still a coward who deserves everything coming to him, but....in a way I can see how he saw unaliving his wife the better option over letting her become a play thing for the Princess, like she wanted. Knowing what we know about the princess and what she has done, can you imagine what she would've done if XFF ended up becoming a 'toy' for her play with?
Obviously nothing clears her mistakes, she's done many terrible things and no one deserved what she's done.
I understand what you mean. I think at the end of the day her real issue is that she feels betrayed by her brother for making her stay a hostage, and hates XFF because she was a representation of everything she wanted, but never felt herself. Loving family, being cherished and protected. I think this is the real reason she wants to destroy her. But understanding her history and how she got here, doesn't excuse what she does to innocent people. Much like with JSR, who wanted to marry a painter but her father beat him in front of her until she complied. But instead of breaking the cycle and choosing to protect others from the same abuse, they both chose to continue the cycle. For that, they both need to pay for what they did.
