At first I was pretty annoyed at how JTH is manipulating the ML’s feelings (regarding the arrow shot), but then I remembered how he tried to kill her in their first meeting and was ready to sacrifice her life to frame the CP. He wasn’t willing to sacrifice his other concubines / wives bc they have stronger political backing. Despite how his wife is the daughter of his literal enemy, he treats her with respect. So now I feel no pity toward him / whatever heartache he experiences. JTH is just reacting to his prior ruthlessness and doesn’t want to risk her life to come clean to him (rightfully so)
So the entire 'stuck in the village' arc was pretty much meaningless, it just gave us a bit of village life ala…
I think it alluded to how important family is to the FL (when she protected the little kid from ML’s wrath bc of her empathy on the kid’s brother who disappeared), and probably helps ML understand FL better once he starts piecing things tgt
