one ep left & this is like my 10 comment... I adore this show & HATE that the rating is so low. I get its not…
Agree. It’s not for me (which is why I won’t be giving it a rating) and I only watch it to pass the time but I really like that other people are enjoying it. The comments have been lovely to read. It’s very niche and it’s good to see that some viewers get it’s charm and like it.
Honestly, even with 7 episodes - Lovely Runner is a very engaging drama with everything going right for it. But…
I don’t disagree with anything you said. The diverse comments and diverse viewership means that there are every category of people watching this drama (stans, neutrals, hate watchers, first time watchers, young, old etc). This all contributes to the ratings, hype, popularity and visibility. This is what explains the huge popularity. That essentially ‘everyone’ is watching (whatever their reasons may be). You had shows recently like My Demon, Marry My Husband etc that were also popular for a variety of reasons but popularity alone didn’t get them anywhere near 20% viewership. For whatever reason they didn’t resonate with as many (South Korean) tv watchers as this drama has.
I also plan to watch Lovely Runner. It’s one I’m really excited about but I’ll be watching when it finishes airing. I’m trying to cut down on watching airing dramas as I feel I’m a little less forgiving if I watch them week to week.
I actually have the same question. She seemed to hold a contempt for them specifically, so I would have liked…
I might be wrong but I thought all the orphanage scenes were post the brother’s death. Meaning that ES lived with his mother before she left him to go be with the chairman. I also wonder when the wife of the chairman died.
I absolutely agree. If I didn’t have the confirmation that she lived into old age I would have thought there was the possibility that the tumour came back and she still died young.
I’m really looking forward to the two special episodes. I think it will be focused on how they lived their lives afterwards, leading up to their old age. I’m hoping to see when they found out they were expecting again, watching their daughter grow, seeing how they took their company to new heights and seeing Hae-In in old age.
Everything aside why did Moon Seul Hee choose the Queen group's family? Did I miss something? I was hoping to…
I actually have the same question. She seemed to hold a contempt for them specifically, so I would have liked to see what made her choose them and how she met that family and decided they were the ones.

I roll my eyes when people think that everyone is watching something for the hype or because they stan the actors. I don’t like something just because it’s popular but I also don’t dump on it because it’s popular. Additionally, I don’t stan or worship celebrities either. I just like and appreciate talent and dramas that resonate. I judge each drama at face value and try to give everything a chance. I am someone with no skin in the game, no allegiance and who tries to be an objectively-subjective viewer. And even I can say there was something special about Queen of Tears. Where even though it had its flaws, I can understand why it captivated and touched the hearts of so many viewers.
The ratings are based on S Korean household viewership. It has nothing to do with Netflix's larger audience reach.…
Honestly though; like in a lot of countries, the main demographic of people watching tv in South Korea are the older generation. This is why melodrama (soap opera) style dramas and historical dramas do the best there. Often crossing double digits. Every once in a while you’ll get a drama that appeals to most demographics like this one, even though the older generation still drives the tv viewership. In terms of Netflix and streaming platforms, the viewership is mainly driven by younger audiences. Although, again, you sometimes get a show that appeals across all demographics. I personally find the mechanisms of what affects something, fascinating.
I do like these Q&A in-depth style interviews. I really hope more productions do this with their cast, writers and directors. There are many dramas that I wanted certain things explained from their POV. Especially endings.
Queen of tears was not perfect but it was absolutely beautiful in a way that I had not experienced from a k-drama before. I have never felt so deeply for almost every character in a k-drama before and have never felt so much hope even while feeling the absolute sadness of the emotional scenes.
After reading reviews, it made me realize how certain dramas could receive hate simply because they are hyped…
I find that seeing the word ‘overhyped’ in a review or comment already tells me the place the commenter is coming from and it’s certainly not a balanced/fair place. More like bitterness and agenda based. I feel free to scroll right past those.
The execution from episode 14 onwards wasn’t the best but it certainly wasn’t anywhere near the bad writing we usually get from k-drama finale episodes. On top of that, the story is absolutely beautiful and they executed the heartfelt and romantic bits to perfection. There are other dramas that are more solid overall but none of those dramas quite got me in the depth of feels as this one. I’m only rating this an 8.5 because it’s an 8.5 type of drama. Most romcom k-dramas are an 8.5 for me (that’s just how I rate them), which I still consider quite high. But I cannot overstate how much this makes you feel. Especially episodes 1-12. It’s worth the watch just for this alone.
the only way i'll accept the car crash is if that delulu idiot goes to jail for life with his mother
I think SML will die at the hands of his mother (probably while helping to save Hae-In) and the mother will go back to jail. The thing about makjang style dramas is that as well as guaranteeing a happy ending, they also like to turn their bad characters ‘good’ in the end. I just know it’s leading up to him doing something selfless to ‘redeem’ himself.
