LoL what do we have here. Remake. Loved the kdrama version. Haha! Binged this and it's my first Filipino drama! The…
You’ve actually commented the three things I was going to say.

*- The production and visuals are good.

*- ML is a decent actor but his portrayal of the character doesn’t fit the tone. If it was a straight up comedy it might fit. He really feels like he is playing a role rather than inhabiting the role. The FL is carrying the show atm. I think she does a good job for her version of secretary Kim.

*- I don’t feel the romantic chemistry between them so far.

It’s a light watch and palette cleanser between the heavier dramas of the week and this is the biggest appeal for me. So in that sense, I’m enjoying it.

Ok so I’ll be honest, I decided to watch this show since I’m not usually the most convinced by MDLs ratings…
A rare occurrence of the MDL rating being reflective of the drama.

The financial aspects is a bit confusing. To my understanding, the bad guys are basically offering investments…
Yup

I wholeheartedly agree with your commentary about Weak Hero Class 1. There are some dramas I recommend because they are badass, well acted and entertaining, like The Glory and then there are some dramas I think NEED to be seen, like Weak Hero Class 1. I think dramas like these are so important.

This is based on a novel, the ending is set (unless they decide to change it, but why would they?)And lately BL…
I wasn’t aware there was a novel so I’m going in blind. I kind of expect it to have a happy ending. Most Taiwanese bls do and nothing indicates so far that the ending will be sad. Although I suspect it will be an emotional ride, as it has been so far.

If you think Taiwanese BLs can't have sad endings try HIStory3: Make Our Days Count. I hope they don't give us…
I know any country bl can have sad endings but if it were a Japanese bl, if one of the characters ends up being sick or have a health scare, that character’s dying for sure. The sad ending would be a certainty. 😅

Now that the obligatory break up and reunion is out of the way, next up is the illness/health crisis Qian is sure to face. I’m bracing myself for this one. All I can say is, thank God it’s not a Japanese production or we’d be set for a sad ending.

I got to around episode 7 before I realised I’d seen this before. It’s interesting watching this in my thirties compared to my twenties. I found that I related more to the FL’s father (both in his observations of the FL & ML’s blossoming romance and also how funny his realness is). I used to think it was just nostalgia but they really don’t make them like they used to. I sat and easily watched this 20 episode k-drama and this was the second time around. These days I can’t even get through a 12 episode drama of the newer series without fast forwarding through some of it. I watched a 2016 drama for the first time two weeks ago and it was so good. Have all the directors and screenwriters from 2014 - 2019 retired or something?

That's so funny. Why did they even bother to respond to the rumour? All publicity is good publicity, whatever…
I think they responded because it takes very little these days for the Korean public to turn against actors/stars. It seems there’s an entity that is REALLY trying to bring bad publicity to this drama. Two weeks ago it was the car controversy (equally stupid but just as potentially damaging).

This is such a useful breakdown of both the series and the terminology. I’ll definitely be bookmarking this. I’ve been looking forward to Parasyte: The Grey.

I may be wrong here but i don’t think it explicitly confirms nor does he confirm that he carried out the death…
Reading the comments here is making me second guess my take away from episode 15. I came away being pretty sure that they were telling us that the stepmother killed ML’s mum and the son killed the father. I didn’t think that was up for debate but now I see so many people debating this, I’m wondering if I misunderstood. 😅

My first thought when i started this drama was "I really hope it's not the brother because it would be way to…
I really hoped it wouldn’t be him. I knew that of all the betrayals and loss this was the one that would hit the hardest for the ML. Now they’ve gone even further than I thought. Not only did the stepmother steal his legacy, sabotage any bond with his father and forced him to be an outsider, but she also took his mother away from him by killing her. On top of that, not only has his brother turned out to be a baddie but he usurped him as the rightful heir and took his father away from him through murder. He was the one person the ML had as a safe harbour and the only person who treated him like family. Now he’s the one causing him immeasurable pain. All of this is unimaginable levels of betrayal and evil committed against one person but to have it done by someone who doesn’t even have a biological claim to the thing he’s done it all for, is enough to drive a person crazy. What is life at that point.

You might need to name the actresses because the main characters and the main supporting characters all fitted…
I don’t know how else to put it so that you understand that the thing that was being communicated to you WAS for you to understand what was being said not about agreeing. We’ve been saying the same thing for the last four or five comments now. That’s why I said go back and read the thread because you’ll be able to see what we/I was trying to communicate to you. It was for you to understand what we were saying, which you’ve said in two comments now that you do. Now we’re just going around in circles.

I think when you go back and read the comments in this thread under your original comment you’ll get a better idea of what was being communicated to you and it wasn’t that you had to agree. In fact, you’ve ended with exactly what we were trying to get across to you. It’s a perfect place to end the discussion, as you said. 🙂

No one is saying that we have to accept the realities of nepotism. The actors did a great job. These are two separate things. Two things can be true at one time. I don’t accept that they are undeserving or that they can’t do a good job because of nepotism. That’s the point I’m trying to get across. Just as you rightly think that an advantage shouldn’t allow you to get things you’re not qualified for, I conversely don’t think you should be deemed undeserving because you’ve had an advantage. Especially if that advantage doesn’t make you automatically ‘good’ at the thing you’re given an advantage for. Being good at something is innate or an acquired skill. What I think should determine whether you deserve something or not is your aptitude for it. You can recognise someone’s aptitude for something while also calling out nepotism. Unfortunately, you seem to have conflated the two things.

Nepotism and connections aren’t ideal but I don’t think it should dictate how deserving someone is of something. I think whether that person is skilled or not does. If I could choose a world without nepotism and connections I would but even within this world we sometimes get introduced to really talented people. I think of Jaime Lee Curtis, Laura Dern and Liza Minnelli who are incredible actors and a product of nepotism. It’s not a defence of nepotism but like I was saying above, if it’s going to happen, I prefer if the person being nepo-tised are really talented. The talent speaks for itself.
