Being an actor in C-ent really isn’t easy, especially when your agency isn’t strong enough or is basically useless.
On top of that, fewer long-form dramas are being produced now. The big platforms have to be much more cautious about what they produce because of financial pressure and falling stock prices.

Sometimes I honestly wonder whether it would have been better if CZY were a Korean actor instead 😅 I just want to see him acting in genuinely high-quality productions with more variety, rather than dramas that focus so heavily on romance just for the sake of popularity and all the other nonsense that comes with C-ent.

I think I’d actually enjoy following him even more if he had more opportunities to take on different genres and stronger scripts.

C-dramas have been a letdown and somehow there’s even more drama happening outside the actual dramas.

Better than I thought, to be honest, especially since it was suddenly aired and the overall quality of the drama isn’t really on par with some of the other dramas airing at the same time. Mango also has a smaller viewer base compared with the Big Three platforms, so it’s already quite difficult to compete unless a drama has really strong production quality and an excellent script and unfortunately, this drama has neither.

There have been quite a lot of complaints about this and that, barely any publicity for the drama, and some fans were protesting from the very beginning for various reasons. Usually, a drama’s supertopic would be filled with CZY’s fans, but this is probably the only one where his fans barely participated. That’s also one of the reasons why it doesn’t rank on the popularity charts. However, it still shows up on the Daily Effective Playback chart on Maoyan, ranking back-to-back with Mystic Nine while Mystic Nine has the overall good quality that it hards to be compared.
I haven't watch Mystic Nine yet, just watch the clips on youtube and it looks very good with the quality, i'm glad that this type of genre can make a hit on china too apart from romance...

Anyway, CZY’s agency really should have screened the project more carefully before handing him the script. This production team is basically a “three-no” production team with no previous experience producing costume dramas pretty much the same situation as TWOT’s production team lol. His agency really is useless.

But since it’s already in the past, I’d rather look at the positive side. At least this role gave him another experience and hopefully helped him improve and grow more as an actor.

And I just noticed something from all the dramas of his that I’ve watched, his characters are rarely a letdown. He usually doesn’t play the typical ML who is completely obsessed with the FL and has nothing else going on in his life. His characters normally have their own goals, ambitions, courage, and responsibilities. They can fall in love, of course, but they’re not just lovesick all the time.

The FLs are usually not written as dumb characters either. There tends to be a pretty equal character setup between the ML and FL, where neither one exists only to make the other look better or completely overshadows the other (I mean for the overall character setting , not the final product after the script has been changed).
That makes me think the original scripts he chooses are actually selected quite wisely. The final result still depends a lot on the overall quality of the drama, the full script and how well the production team executes it but at least his characters themselves are usually quite likable and well-balanced.

So when it comes specifically to choosing the character setting of the ML, I actually think CZY has made some pretty good choices 😊 regardless of the overall outcome of the drama itself.

I really want him to take a break first! Starting a new project in C-ent feels like going into a war zone, there’s a battle everywhere!!!
ML and FL fandoms fight like crazy and I’m just like… what?! Wouldn’t it be better if everyone just cooperated and supported the drama instead? 😭

And if he ends up doing another romance drama, I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing him paired with an actress born in the 2000s. I don’t mean this in a misogynistic or ageist way at all, but the fan wars among the 95-line fandoms are getting so ridiculous and exhausting. 😩 He has already worked with quite a few actresses who are older than him, so pairing him with someone from the 2000s generation could feel fresh and give us a different kind of chemistry too.

I really want to see him in a modern drama, but I also want him in a proper wuxia drama with lots of fantastic fighting scenes because watching CZY’s fight scenes has become one of my favorite things now 🥰

The young emperor had such sharp eyes, a sharp sword, and such sharp fighting scenes 😭 The way he held and handled the sword looked so damn good too. He really has the presence for wuxia action scenes 😭

My wuxia drama loving ass seriously woke up while watching this and now I WANT MOREEEEE!!! 😭🔥⚔️

Yes, he definitely has potential. He was able to play the prince in Fated Hearts and the young emperor in Royal Betrothal with such different manners and presence.

In the end, though, the script and production team are really the key to making a good drama. His agency is still quite weak in C-ent when it comes to connections and finding strong projects for him, which is honestly frustrating. I just hope he gets better scripts and stronger production teams in the future.

I’m glad that he keeps trying as many different roles as possible instead of staying in the same type of role just because it’s his comfort zone. That kind of variety will definitely help him grow and improve as an actor.

So let’s look forward to his next projects, Chasing Dreams and Tales of the Floating World 😊

Finally, RB has ended 😂😂 And yeah, just like we mentioned before, C-dramas really love to shoot themselves in the foot, right? Is it really that hard to give a drama a proper ending? 😑

Anyway, putting everything else aside, our CZY did such a good job playing the young emperor 👏 👏 And it’s not only CZY fans praising him, I've seen many regular viewers saying that he really ate this character up.

And once again, I have to praise his fight scenes!!! Everything was on point, his gaze, his acting, his movements, the fighting itself!!! That collarbone injury really didn’t stop our man 🥹👏 He still delivered those action scenes so well 👍

I actually really like his comedic acting in Mr. Bad.
Comedy feels like a genre that suits him well because he’s naturally such a funny guy himself 😂

I’m not sure about the fighting scenes in CD.
He had the accident about a month after filming started.
Before the incident, he could even vault onto a horse using just one hand I saw it in the Reuters. And after the accident, he still filmed many of the action scenes using only one arm. As far as I know, they also had to tone down some of the action scenes after his injury.

Usually, the co-stars themselves aren’t the problem... their fandoms are....

“Marriage before love” is quite a repetitive trope unless the drama has a genuinely good plot or finds a fresh and interesting way to execute.

YTY has had so many problems since filming started. With a “three-no” production team like this, limiting CZY’s screen time and then trying to rely on the same strong female lead trope was already risky.

And to be clear, this isn’t WJY’s fault at all, she’s just doing her job. But writing an extremely strong female lead well requires a very skilled scriptwriter. Otherwise, the character can easily come across as too forceful or unlikeable. Judging from the comments, it seems like quite a few viewers aren’t really enjoying this type of character.
Personally, I’m okay with it because I didn’t have very high expectations for the drama in the first place anyway.

Why is C-ent always like this? 😭 Sometimes I really just want to take my baby Zheyuan away from all this mess. And the worst part is, there’s absolutely no guarantee that his next project won’t run into another mess either, because C-ent somehow always finds a new way to sabotage itself every now and then 😑
And the fandom culture and marketing accounts are another huge part of the problem.
The constant shaming, belittling, and devaluing of actors and actresses in every possible way just adds even more fuel to the fire. It feels like people are always looking for something to attack like looks, popularity, rankings , billing etc... literally anything 😑 I don't see this much in K-Drama world (except for K-pop lol)

At this point, I just want him to get a good production team, good script and a project that actually knows how to make proper use of him. That's it!!!

During filming Yu Ting Yao, he was dealing with a collarbone injury and had those big hooks in his collarbone but his fighting scenes were still as good as ever.
His fights feel so raw, energetic and powerful, no fantasy powers or flashy magic, just intense battle scenes with swords, kick and real physical force.

You guys must be proud of him. He really gave so much to this role 🥹👏
