Yes, they are. I can count on one hand how many dramas I’ve completed this year. I started many to end up dropping them halfway because the writing would turn idiotic halfway, borderline cartoonish. Smart and strong fl would suddenly turn into idiots, same plot over and over but with different casts that somehow look the same or the script would become boring… it’s unfortunate.

A lot of the new wave of C and K dramas are younger, many couldn’t care less about intricate scripts as long as the actors are “hot looking”. I’ve noticed that many dramas with strong writings but average everyday looking actors don’t get a lot of support. The ones below average writing but good looking cast are accepted.
Similarly, you’ll see this with criminals in dramas. If the criminal is good looking, his crime (like stalking or SA) is more “acceptable”, the audience will find excuses to tolerate it.
Same, a little after halfway, I started skipping the main couple and everything related to them to only watch the Princess and her situation. I found her really silly but her story was more interesting than everything else.

Thank you for the heads up 😓! I can sense the disappointment in your comments. After reading multiple times the complains of readers when they watched onscreen adaptations, I decided to read more. I’m also tired of the same style of acting, same looking actors/actresses and storytelling when it comes to onscreen dramas. Hopefully novels will grab my attention.

You know, I’ve noticed a trend lately with historical dramas. The writers like to write a really silly female character. Either they turn a strong fl into a pathetic needy one when we reach halfway of the drama or they just write an idiotic female character from the get go. I rarely see consistent intelligent woman in these new releases. The princess was raised by the stepmother to be an idiot but princess for some reasons doesn’t have common sense on her own.

I don’t know what the writers are trying to accomplish here with her storyline. I thought that at some point the prince would realize that maybe she’s not too bad and would open up to her. Now with the library lie, I don’t see him liking her at all. The lie was unnecessary.

Thank you for letting me know this. I didn’t enjoy Legend Of The Female General after episode 5 so hopefully, I will have a different experience with this one.
Year 2025 in dramaland taught me to not get excited until we pass the halfway mark. They lure you in with a good first 10 episodes then after that it feels like 1) the writer was writing while drunk 2) the writer stopped receiving payment and was rushed to finish the script. (I haven’t watched yet).

Right! It’s an abomination, she should be in more dramas/movies. She was really good in “mask girl”. Her acting skills are so much better than many of these actresses they are forced feeding us.
Let’s appreciate young actresses who give us emotions when they cry, they don’t care if they look “ugly” because they care more about their craft and making sure the audience feels the emotions. There are more but I’m listing 2 that I can think of right away, Shin Hye-sun and Zhao Lu Si 💯👌.
