I’ll speak for myself, I was not asking for a happy ending with everyone singing and dancing in circles. I understand it was a hard time for villagers at the time BUT what I wanted was CONSISTENCY in the writing. We have to be honest that the first half and the second half feel like 2 different dramas. The personalities of the main characters changed a lot for example.

The writer of the DRAMA should have stayed consistent with her writing and decided what she wanted to portray.

No one watches dramas for accuracy. You find accuracy in documentaries.

There are plenty of classic MOVIES (not documentaries) that portray a more romanticized script from hard times, those movies are considered “classics”.

“Gone With the Wind”, “The Pianist”, “ Schindler's List”, “Life Is Beautiful”, “Roots”… hard historical events were discussed but one of the reasons the movies were good was thanks to the CONSISTENCY in the writing and the normal evolution of the characters.

We didn’t have that here and that’s why imo, the DRAMA was a let down.

“ Wasted drama like alot of chinese dramas nowadays .”👆💯💯… I’m not looking forward to any dramas…
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

The drama was not really an accurate representation of the village life back then. The big idea of historical events were there but a lot was romanticized. If it was truly accurate XiuXiu for example wouldn’t be walking proud and talking among the ignorant villagers after what happened to her… the first half was good but the second half was not consistent.

The ending is so messed but it made me cry hard. Considering the time period, a happy ending is asking too much,…
No we couldn’t see her do that because that would make us happy and apparently we can’t have that for the sake of “aCcUrAcY”… who watches dramas for accuracy anyway?

I’ll be upset about this for a while, it was so unnecessary.

Having a nice ending is really really really unrealistic for the times. It's like saying "why can't we have…
Almost everything about this drama was unrealistic. A woman with bandits not being raped, a woman ruling the village and people listening to her, a woman being the only one with wisdom at the time etc…. It’s a drama, they made everything else unrealistic, you said it yourself that the book was darker.

If we wanted accuracy all the way, we would have stuck to the history books, a documentary or the accurate novel.

Also, what happened to SuSu at the end had nothing to do with historical fact, it was either naivety or stupidity.

Is it nativity or stupidity? At this point, what is it?? 🤬😤😤👊

The writer was determined to not let us have anything nice, what a psycho the writer was.

“ Wasted drama like alot of chinese dramas nowadays .”

👆💯💯… I’m not looking forward to any dramas anymore because of this. I don’t know why they do this, a drama starts off strong but halfway it turns into disaster. I started noticing the phenomenon early this year, I’ve dropped almost all the dramas I was looking forward to.

These types of melodramatic non-cringy dramas perform well in China.mdl userbase is mainly teens (incl. me) with…
I believe the rating is like this because of the second half of the drama. I was one of the people who truly hyped it early on, now I’m sitting here confused and trying to understand what happened. You may or may not see the switch. A lot of us are disappointed, it’s still a decent one to watch.

I know what you mean. If you've seen Romance in the Alley, some characters are similar, but I have to admit, it's…
You reminded me that I have to pick back up “romance in the alley”, I paused it was it on ep 1 or 2? it was hard to get in to. That woman just went and dropped her child at her boss, not caring if he’ll be mistreated or not 😤.

If you say it’s one of the best for you, I’ll pick it back up and push through. I don’t want to miss on a good drama.

Thank you for the heads up about the personalities of the people, knowing this ahead of time is really helpful.

I read the comments of the new viewers who haven’t reached around ep 20 with nostalgia 😅. I remember those…
Because I’m on the last episodes and I hate it here! It feels like 2 different shows in one. Move forward with caution. The last episodes can leave a bitter taste because of the writing that feels too different. The storyline took a weird turn and the leads personalities became unbearable.

I still reject sanctimonious XiuXiu, I accept early version of her when she wanted to hurt her father who abandoned…
For real ! NiWei came back looking like their elders and his younger brother could pass for XiuXiu’s husband lol.

Same, I was hoping she’d get pregnant by him to at least have some joy in that house but nooo that would have made some viewers happy and the writer didn’t want that 😑.

That aged Yinzi so much; she looked like XiuXiu’s older sister. The writer and makeup team gave up on us on the last episodes smh.

Only had a tear for Feng Er (ml dad), he was a decent man. He only wanted his land.
Exactly, there was nothing respectable about him. Now thinking about it, he’s been consistent in his moronic behavior. Since day 1 he was annoying. A spoiled brat is more like it.

SuSu was too good for him.

Right! His SIL, poor woman ended up alone and with empty storage because of his selfishness. He realized too late that he wanted to be near SuSu, what an idiot.

coming to the end of this drama just makes me realise that all annoying characters are just people that made mistakes. Now…
I still reject sanctimonious XiuXiu, I accept early version of her when she wanted to hurt her father who abandoned her. Her husband I can’t really blame him, he was just happy she was his and wanted to make her happy.

I still reject her disgusting dad, he was a sick pervert by choice.
