no I was referring to Zhao Ling killing the fl’s father. I get that the dad was a villain but I just thought it was strange that that wasn’t really addressed

Honestly one of the better dramas from this year. Strong plot and good writing. Extra points for not screwing up the ending. I have watched so many good dramas that end poorly but this one was good from start to finish. I was genuinely interested in a lot of characters regardless of whether I liked them or not. Bravo!

I think because she caught feelings. it’s hard to get over someone when you constantly have to work with them

C’mon now, that’s a bit harsh, no? the story might be slightly cliché but there are different ways for a drama to stand out, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the plot. I feel like the tension is what makes it stand out. I think the pace is faster than normal. what has happened in these 6 episodes would usually take like 20 episodes in other office romances

Ep31 Zhao Ling looks so defeated all the time. He is carrying the weight of the whole world on his shoulders. I just wish the ml and fl would work as a team more. everytime they’ve done that, they are able to do great things

this drama is really good in that it makes me interested in all the different characters even the ones I don’t like. I’m always looking forward to seeing what each character is gonna do

I think he didn’t kill the father. he’s probably keeping him somewhere. I think the ml just wants the Yu family to think they’ve won

yeah I also found it strange that they didn’t include that scene. I imagine it went something like the emperor announcing that to make up for his (Zhao Ling) mistakes he will serve the empire by taking care of the disaster relief. I’m not sure if that would satisfy the public but it seems like the nobles within the inner circle seem to understand that the Zhaos put themselves on the line to solve this dilemma for the emperor and empress dowager and that they haven’t actually fallen out of favor. but I could be wrong I don’t know

EP 27 I’ve been busy lately so I was behind. now all caught up and I just wanted to say seeing Yake constantly take Ls gives me so much joy😂 I have never seen someone constantly fumble the bag like she does. Also the Yu family is so arrogant, especially the head, he undesrestimates the Zhaos so much. At least Madam Yu kinda seems to acknowledge the fl’s cleverness. But regardless Madam Yu still thinks the fl is beneath her. seeing her get outsmarted was so satisfying. they thought they could use the empress dowager against her and her man but they swiftly turned the tables. What was supposed to be their downfall turned into an opportunity. Miss Wu was helpful in this matter although I don’t fully trust that she will always be on the fl’s side. What happens when Madam Yu finds out the role she played in this? also I was just happy to see her have a proper meal, my girl had been STARVING

So glad I waited until now to watch this. What a great binge watch, how did you guys watch this week by week? Hats off to you that did it because I would have gone insane waiting. Anyways, I was gonna write a long review but then I’m too overwhelmed by the amount of (great) things I loved about this show. So here are just some ramblings I wrote while watching the show. Things that stood out:

*Crazy Qi Min and his crazy brother (he’s cute but I can’t fix him)
*Qi Min’s crazy ass (I can fix him)
*The chemistry of the second couple😍 I see why everybody was going crazy about the bathtub scene because omg whaaaaat? 🥵 Or was it the leading couples’s scene, idk they were both spicy in their own ways. The upside down kiss? Are you kidding me? They got me rooting for this toxic relationship. I need Deng Kai to play this kind of role again.
*The sweetness of the main couple🥰🥰They were incredible as individuals and as a couple.
*Tian Xi Wei literally looks like a fairy, so beautiful and adorable but still maintained a mature demeanor when needed, I actually found her believable as a general. Her emotional scenes were so well done. I was crying with her at some point.
*ZLH has never looked better. The aura, the costumes! I also enjoyed his performance, I thought he did his character justice.
*The humor was on point. Just the right dose, didn’t take away from the seriousness.
*Most useless emperor I have ever seen in a drama. He was hilariously incompetent😂
*umm prime minister was sexy AF. Seriously who is he? Why are all the antagonists in this show so damn attractive?
*”Bully to friend” trope is seriously underrated. Loved how fl’s former bullies literally became her brothers.
*FL’s little sis so adorable. Also loved the conversations between her and Bao’er. It’s not often you see that many interactions between 2 child actors, they did great.

Overall a really good drama. I was never bored, maybe the last 2 episodes dragged a bit but that’s literally me being fussy. The AI use in some transition shots left a lot to be desired. Nevertheless, this is a great contender for drama of the year. Everyone has their own opinion ofcourse but I think the hype is justified. I was a bit scared it wouldn’t live up to expectations but it did.
