I agree. I just think the story has established she's stubborn and also mindful of what is being said about her and Emperor so I can see her ditching the guard even if she had one.
For a person in charge of the Censorste and reports directly to the Emperor, why is she allowed to walk around…
I mean she does a fair amount of work where she doesn't want to announce she's coming so my guess is that's part of it. Also there's already rumors of her relationship with the Emperor flying about, remember he tried to gift her a carriage for this reason, and she said no to quell the favoritism rumors.
So there's a scene in the trailer and the MV where the Emperor is getting flogged in front of the court and it's been irking the h*ll out of me. How do you flog the Emperor?
Well, it finally dawned on me - after the Steward mentioned that it's "death" for a minister and emperor to be in a relationship - that he's likely taking the flogging so he can openly be with Lady Meng. Like, he's obviously not gonna let them kill her, so this is the "punishment" for breaking the rules.
Episode 19 was a bit self-righteous. "Honest" work for a women back then still likely meant she would be at the whims of the men around, particularly if she wasn't married or had a "questionable" past, so lacked any real protection. Being able to feed, clothe and shelter yourself can't be underestimated.
Reason it's called Royal Betrothal and have them both in Royal garb is because he made her his empress from the…
I've read some questionable spoilers for the ending. I hope they just stick with them being married. And that's a nice way to restore the past throne and merge with the new throne.
They end up married, she becomes empress in the novel, they also have children together, but I've seen spoiler…
The one I saw was that she decides not to marry him at all and just remain his loyal minister for the good of the realm and her commitment to the people. Both of those would piss me off. lol. So let's hope what we both saw was wrong.

We'll see.
I view it as more saving the realm...if that makes sense.
Or is it a secret relationship type thing where she remains the minister yet they are clearly together unofficially.
