I have all the same questions and agree with you about the portrayal of the Queen Mother.

Backstory on the former King, Grand Prince's father is interesting. He had to see is first born wasn't cut out to be King, but instead of elevating his status to Crown Prince, clung stubbornly to tradition and forced Grand Prince to dim his shine.

It's her pride that's eating her alive. She was groomed to be Queen so of course she married the Crown Prince, but little did she know he didn't have what it takes to be King. His brother did. And she fears her son is like his father.

The Queen Mother is gonna burn it all down (unintentionally) b/c she married the wrong brother and her son seems more like his father. The jealousy and her pride are eating her alive. SMH.

What's even more interesting is that she realized he lost on purpose too. And she's still annoyed by it. lol

Might be heading that way. However K-Dramas lately have NOT been sticking the ending.

I'm also wondering if they had a thing in the past (like you said she's too comfortable calling him by his first name). Like he was genuinely interested in her, and she flirted with him and gave him false hope, but she would never marry the "spare" - b/c she was groomed to be a Queen after all.

Came here to say all of this. She's going to destroy the Crown b/c she is so upset that she married the wrong brother. Grand Prince is everything a Royal should be. Groomed to be a queen, of course she was going to marry the Crown Prince, but little did she know he wasn't the "royal" one of the family. She's incensed that her son seems to be more like his father (the boys is only 8 she really needs to chill, but she's desperate) and not the Grand Prince who is everything she feels she deserved. She's so hateful, jealous, and angry she can't even see her actions will be what causes the Crown's downfall.

Right up there with the obligatory aphrodisiac over dose. lol

I'm confused about the relationships here...how is the 8 year old King - or Crown Prince at least. How is the dad still not on the throne but regnant for the young King (Crown Prince)? What the heck?
